I *LOVE* all the little touches of realism there is in this. Like how they used Helium3 for fusion reactions on the moon, and in reality Helium3 is a fantastic fuel source for fusion energy, and is in abundance on the Moon. Or how the rooms and hallways of the space station are curved in a big donut, because the station likely used centrifugal force to create artificial gravity, back when it had power. Or the fact that the Moon has a space elevator while Earth doesn't, because building a space elevator on the Moon is actually way easier and cheaper.
It is games like this that try to use hard science I have the hardest time suspending my disbelief with. Not because some of their science is bad. Far from it lot of times. But rather the fact that they literally ignore common sense most of the time. There wouldn't be a single station on the moon doing this. There would be *multiple* ones. And there would be smaller. backups in orbit around the planet. And to begin with. Most resources on earth, besides paladium(/platinum) helium and gasoline are in abundance comparatively... that is to say; The current resources we can access with *our* current technology would last us *thousands* if not *Millions!* of years. Oh and if the earth is drying up that would indicate even better access to geothermal energy and thus easier access to power in lot of locations. If they had dozen, if not hundreds of stations on the moon suddenly all turn dark I could see this scenario in the game happen... And let's not go into the earth not having enough "resources" to send *massive* fleets to the moon to investigate what occurred. Considering that this station is the *main* source of energy for the *entire* fucking planet I cannot in good faith even believe for a second that Earth wouldn't use everything to reinstate the facility again. I want to like the game. But if you are going to pull hard science scenarios you also need to keep in consideration *common. Fucking. Sense!* among number of other purely logical things.
Well, there's the other problem that you don't need Helium-3 or fantastic power beaming technology. If you can expend the resources building colonies on the moon, you can easily expend resources putting up a large solar array (7x the power generation of Earth-based solar) and using good-ol microwaves to beam back the power to Earth. And if there is reason to get a lot of mass up into space, there is reason to invest in some of the grander launch solutions that will drastically cut your cost/pound ratio to get to orbit, making an orbital solar array even more competitive. Yeah, premise doesn't make sense. It's a shame they make you wallow in it.

They certainly do, however, that's not a good mark for renewable sources, it means you need EVEN more infrastructure to make it worth it, as such spending more money, one of the few good reasons we have not switched to solar power is just that, there is too much infrastructure that needs building, while a nuclear, fusion or fission can just be hooked into the existing power grid just like that, it's always a matter of economic s for the people who will fund this, they don't care about environmental safety or any of that, they care about that yearly income number, and whoever gets to that golden prize of fusion wins the electricity race.
