JL Audio SUBWOOFER in a 2021 Peterbilt Big Rig!

- Upgrading the factory stereo in this 2021 Peterbilt 389 is almost an essential part of a custom build like this. A better stereo is one way to make those long days on the open road more enjoyable. Kevin from Davis Bros. Designs came down to the shop and help us install a new Sony head unit and JL Audio 10in sub in "Silver Bullet" The final results were phenomenal, this is a relatively inexpensive upgrade costing less then 1400.00 and well worth the money!
Parts List:
Sony Head Unit: Model# DSX-GS80
Raptor wiring harness: part# RAP-VW-9000
JL Audio 10in sub: Part# ACP110LG-TW1
other parts:
8 gauge power wire, RCA cables (25ft), 60amp fuse and holder, grommet
Typical install time is around 3 to 3.5 hours.

Worked with an IT guy for a few summers.
One client- "Why did you charge me $300 for 15 mins of your time? You pushed only a couple of buttons (on CPU) and now my network is working?

Doing stereo work is a pretty simple upgrade. Getting everything put back together and factory looking can be a real chore. From what I've seen you definitely have some of the best help there.

That’s the same radio I got! Definitely a major improvement from the original single din. I’ve got a Memphis 12 and CT Meso 3 ways in the doors and 6x9s

upgraded my 95 7.3 to 6/9s. with blue tooth alpine. being able to tune between the bass and treble is awesome

BHA1784 or 70-1784 is the harness. Either will work. One made by metra, and the other by best kits.

OK so can you switch A/C controls and the radio position? Then you could install one of the floating large head units, like the Alpine Halo9 or 11.

i have been doing this for years and make my own harness....#PETERBILT all the way...they madevand MTX version of the 379x
You have to put a longer or taller whichever shifter in the silverbullet

do it with an old truck that every wire has same color and not a single harness there lol

Where did you run the ground
I’ve been doing stereo installation professionally for 20+ years and I’ve never seen anyone use butt connectors in that way when putting a harness together. Interesting.
I always have. They dont fail like wire nuts and they dont break like solder.

I doubt the harness will work with a freightliner. We don’t really mess with Freightliner radios so unfortunately we don’t really have much info.
Maybe it's just me but you guys did not seem too thrilled with the quality of sound🤔

I installed that same unit in a Volvo VNL Day Cab .
Installed 6.75” Rockford Fosgate 3 ways in the doors.
I had to wire it to the batteries because it kept blowing the fuse
Where can I get the satellite radio adapter?
Are you able to hear the bass outside of the truck? I'm wanting to get a system aswell but don't know if I should go with a 10 or 12.
You can hear outside a little bit. They 12 is definitely more

@@VicBeatz Whatever tone of bass you want. 12s hit great for mid from what i know,anything lower to me is high tones. I say low and loud get a 15'

Had best buy install a stereo in my Peterbilt a decade ago and they told me the adapter harness is out of a VW Jetta. Believe it or not, even my current International Lonestar uses the same damn harness. Trucking manufacturers are lazy.

Do the new trucks still have a CD player in they? Did the new system have one?
The Sony we put in does not have a cd player.

Yes it is
So it won’t effect the screen at all or any of its functions. I just don’t want to tear up a brand new 389 lol.

Possibly... but couldn’t say for sure as we have not done one on a 2012.

It should, but not 100% it is the same harness as the 389. If you pull your factory unit out try and compare the factory plug to the Raptor wiring harness: part# RAP-VW-9000
Was it using the base factory setup or the upgraded one?
This truck has the premium sound system to start with, then we changed the head unit and sub but kept the rest of the speakers from the factory.
