@@alanwitonsky Not only is it not his first language, but he first came in contact with English for the first time in his teens! Which makes it even more impressive.
That's how it was in Romania when I was a child before '89. I wish people from countries that didn't experience life in a dictatorship realise how lucky they are and that they cherish their freedom and rights more. I hope they realise that people died for them to have these and that it's their duty to fight for them.
What an amazing young man. He has faced such adversity and yet still his devotion to his family remain strong. He fed his mom in jail. He provided childcare for his sister's young daughter instead of going to school. He fled with his mom, who would be executed if she stayed in NK. He stayed by her side as they made the terrifying journey to Thailand. This kind of life, the adversity he has faced, yet still speaks so kindly and humbly, is incredible. Wow, what a guy. He puts most young men and women in the states to shame.
This is so sad. May God heal and protects children in N Korean. No one deserves such treatment and injustice, especially children. I pray things will change at some point. Amen!
Thank you for sharing your story, thoughts and experiences. I think it is important for others to know and understand your story (myself included). I think you are a brave and amazing person that can teach us a lot. I appreciate your honesty. Wishing you a life filled with happiness and all the best life has to offer! Thank you! 🙏
Although I hate everything that goes on in NK I find all your stories sad but fascinating. I have read a lot about NK . how it is allowed in this day and age . Hope you have a long happy life .love from Scotland 🏴❤
He is an excellent story teller and his English is superb, I'm glad he and his mother were able to achieve a better life in South Korea. Does he have socials that we can follow him on?
Young man you are a true hero for doing what you did, but like one comment was made keep your escape a secret because the dictator will make it harder for others to succeed what you did. But you are a hero God bless you 🙏🌹🎉
Listening to you answering these questions based on your past experiences 19:46 was very compelling. I truly admire your courage and tenacity in facing challenges head-on. Your unwavering determination and resilience are truly inspiring, showing a strength of character that is both rare and commendable. Your ability to persevere in the face of adversity is something I deeply respect.
He seems smart and is well spoken. On top of that, he is pretty handsome. I am sure he will do well. I wish him success. I hope his mom feels happy and proud. I am sure being a refugee is hard no matter what, but I am also sure you can find happiness in your new country.
I was lucky enough to leave USSR legally in 1978. And my family lived in a province by Romanian border (Moldova). I also lost my father at young age. I can relate to his story. Although life in the USSR was not that harsh in 70s.
Im so happy he is save now , i hope the 🔮 will change for north korea 😞 , kim is really young(40) so thats gonna be allot of years still in his power , god our father pleas give the people there the strenght yo stay strong annd survive 🍀 🙏🏾
It’s a really nice and interesting video! But I think it was a wrong decision to make it in English. He could’ve told his story way better and in a deeper way in Korean and it would’ve been enough to put English subtitles.
God bless you Harry Kim. I hope you inspired other North Koreans to either escape or engage in another form of resistance. While active protests would be murderously squashed, I wonder if passive protest such as a massive sit-in would have an effect?
I feel like I want to give this guy a big hug! The way he talks about being lonely as a child really broke my heart. I was hit by nuns as a student in private schools-corporal punishment is never ok. By the way, the architect of the North Korea system, Kim Jong Un, is the guy that Donald Trump continually praises. That should tell you something actually, that should tell you a lot, about Donald Trump.
they already know and already cracked down on it. border now is practically impenetrable. also the road he is talking about was the only possible so it was known people were running away there
so sad our kids are so picky and we have trouble getting them to eat! That was always our major concern that we'd get the kids to eat! Corn is not a very nutritious food. Kids need protein and carbs and everything in a balanced diet! Here in the states even the government will give food vouchers to mothers to make sure that the kids have food! As a Grandmother and Mother this really bothers me!
If he lived in a fishing village why wasn't he able to eat fish? I thought he was going to say they were lucky to be in a sea village because they could catch their own or get leftover scraps. At least that would be a source of protein. 🤔
@EffiiCat I came here to say exactly that.. they are watched like inmates in prison.. everything you do is seen and dealt with accordingly if you stray from the norm.. NK doesn't even have grocery stores.. food/rations are rationed out according to your social standing.. if you're part of the government/regime then you actually have wealth a car a home and never ending access to food.. if you're anything other than that you have nothing.. the whole city where the dictator lives is essentially a movie set.. citizens are "hired" to act like a normal city when they're in tourist season.. it's crazy they even let travelers in because they have to put up this huge facade.. they're a full communist country.. they don't even have TV shows to watch you watch what they regime broadcasts out to you .. there's no internet access no one but the elite can own a car ..
as this channel has just started, a translator would be out of the budget.😅 but in my opinion harrys english doesnt require an translator anyways. thanks for you comment👍🏻
@@dj_smacks_47, very ignorant comment. What are YOU talking about? We have poor and starving children here too. The US may be one of the wealthiest nations on Earth, but not everybody is rich.
@@robertb.4202 I’m from Iraq and I lost my brother to malnutrition, You have no idea how my family survived off a small piece of bread a day if not less, I have never seen a person in America be hungry like that, there’s too much food in America for that to happen. His English is outstanding! You can tell he worked hard to "think" in English.
I thought same thing. He spoke very well for english not being his first language
I was about to say to the same. You can hear the effort he puts to learn the second language. Absolutely outstanding.

Hopefully we can learn something from North Korea to improve the systems in other countries,
An immigrant that learned English. How refreshing!
Did he imply that he was treated differently or discriminated in South Korea?
Many migrants from the North are because they a different and often stunted due to malnutrition.
It’s so unfair how you all had to live there it’s so evil and I’m glad you got out of there

Why? His English is superb.
How did you learn how to speak English?
I'm sure his father must be a high-ranking jop. People in North Korea can never speak English like that
