In this video we walk through the installation process of a Rawtek Eco DPF Delete kit. We are using a 2011 VW Jetta Sportwagen, but this will be an almost identical install on an Audi A3. Removing the stock system takes some help, and we'd recommend you have someone else on standby to assist when needed. As always we did this on the ground, and that can make certain steps particularly difficult. We'll link the kit & the instructional PDF below to follow along. You'll also see we ended up cutting out parts, this is due to A. Time and B. a lack of wanting to ever reinstall this stuff. The DPF is tucked between the firewall and the block, which means putting it back whole might be harder than taking it apart. Even still, Rawtek does offer a rebate for sending your stock system in, however we found a licensed scrapper who came and took the DPF and cat off our hands for half the cost of the delete. Performance feels great, and is night and day difference when it comes to overall drivability. There is some room to be desired for exhaust noise, as the in-cabin volume has almost zero change from stock. We've already ordered a 3" cutout that should provide us the full experience WHEN we want it.

Awesome video man this helped me out a bunch when I was installing my eco kit , kept going back to this video as a reference, one thing I did different , instead of popping the axle out I added 3 1/2 inch drive extensions on my impact and took the lower dpf bracket off, made it a lot easier to pull it out after the bracket was removed , anyways thanks again 🙏

Thanks for the video. Followed this for installing my delete kit from Ecodiesel Owners Canada. Same process for everything on the removal. I didn’t cut the old dpf. Disconnected the axle and the wishbone. Placed a floor jack under the front of the transmission and pivoted the dpf out. Install the new exhaust has less attachment locations and the new mid pipe has to be cut to length on the Jetta. Happy turbo noises!

Great video! I did this job this last summer, on my 2012 Golf The instructions RawTek supply are great. The only thing I did differently than your video, which I think most people would not want to do, is unbolt the axle. If you remove the wishbone connector (can see it at about the 13 minute mark) between the engine and the transmission, then you can use a little jack to rock the engine forward a bit on its mounts. This creates just a bit more room for the DPF to slide right out. Keep up the good work!
Those dog bone bolts are TTY and should only be used once unless specified otherwise

Hi, couple questions. Orange n brown plugs do they go back on the downpipe? And what about the top o2 sensor? Where does it goes?

It’s barely there! In cabin there’s almost no change, and when you have your windows down you can here a little turbo whistle!

You can get it out without cutting it. You generally have to lower the front subframe to get enough room to do that though. Most of the reason we cut this one off was the general space limitations on the ground, mixed with the general impact of NY salt on everything we were working with.
Did you just put the egr cooler rear block off plate on? Ir did you take the whole egr valve and tube out?
Is there a gasket in between the turbo and the downpipe ? And if so can we reuse the original one

@ 15:35 minute mark you skip right past any reinstalling of the brown plug. Does this connection get grease and tucked away?

Thanks for explaining the uninstall and install. Mine was a little different but more or less the same. I'm at the point of birthing the DPF. Which sensor goes in the pipe I'm going to install? Also, the axle popped out, what is the best method to getting it back in line with the engine?
Shouldn’t be too hard to stuff that axle back up there, as far the sensor I believe it’s the orange connector that goes into the new downpipe.
Great video! I’m getting ready to do this on my 2014 tdi. One thing confuses me, does the stage 2 tune from flashzilla require the DSG tune as well? If so do I have to take it to a pro for that?
Stage 2 from Tunezilla does require DSG tuning, but it can all be done with flashzilla

What happens if you delete it without the tune. Is it just dash lights because mine is on already with the dpf.

Thanks! And not that I can think of! I’ve been happy with the setup, the cutout gives me volume when I want it, and keeps it low profile when it needs to be. Car is way more fun to drive

There is an odor. Not generally an issue for the driver if routing through the stock muffler, but if the wind throws it in the cab it’s gonna smell like a diesel lol

Yes, the Malone tune will turn off the monitors so no check engine lights.
Did you have to do anything to the tuner prior to installing on the car?
You just download the modified tune from rawtek, then plug it into the car.

The tuner is an add on to your order, and it includes instructions. You download the stock tune, send it out for modification, and then receive the modified tune, which you install onto the car. You will need a PC to send and download the tune.
Two questions. How long did it take and did the tune get rid of the DPF light?
do you have the dynamic idle option on the tune?

With the tune, is the engine light on for DPF codes or EGR codes?

So what do we do with the brown plug that is disconnected at minute 8:38, next to the orange plug? I can only find references to unplug it in the beginning.
Thans for the video! I just did this with my old man on the shop floor in 8hrs. I am not a mechanic but i can follow directions.
If I recall this is one of the weird ones where the instructions have you disconnect it yet it needs to be plugged back in later. I remember this because while doing this job we had a moment where we both were like “well then why did we even need to disconnect that?”
You end up removing the other sensors entirely, so anything that is still there should be connected.
But it is remove from the car because the brown plug is the 2nd one on the dpf. instructions only say to reinstall the orange plug.@@theoegarage

We use a mix of tools during this lol, I think you’re referring to a Milwaukee impact! Their ratching wrench’s are really helpful too, although all my gear is Makita.

that sounds awesome. I am debating if I can do this myself, or if I should just sell the car and get a gas powered one. I have VW passat TDI 2014, adblue heater problem starting to develop and I think I would rather just invest in complete delete kit. But one question. If you drive in a large city that has emissions check points at on ramps will they catch it? I live in an area that does not have that. Tx panhandle. But if I ever took a trip to DFW or Houston it might be an issue.
Yeah there’s no getting away from that, it would be caught
ad blue heater is a easy fix . part in around 200 bucks and couple of hrs max.
Did you have to email rawtec to the eco tune or was it install in the handheld when you purchased it?
You download your stock tune, email it to rawtek, and they send the modified tune back in a few days

how come after removing dpf there is no black smoke from your exhaust ? are you sure you have the right tune on car ?
Black smoke comes from overfueling the engine. There’s no need to do that with the stage II tune, we are going for power and efficiency. While there may be some smoke, the stock muffler is in place.
What do you do with the little black hose that's left over near the coolant reservoir?
I believe that gets hooked back to a pressure sensor

Perfect timing for this. Just got my rawtek kit! About how long would you say it took to do the mechanical part of it?
I think you have a fast route and a slow route. The fast route I would say give yourself a day, and be happy to finish in maybe 3-5 hours. This means cutting off a lot like we did. If you want to keep everything solid with no cutting, I would think 6-8 hours with the potential for more if things are stuck.
@@theoegarage gotcha. Yea i have a full saturday and sunday reserved. Andddd i have a lift and all tools they say i should need. Plus a handful of friends. So fingers crossed it ends up being under 8 hours 🤣.

Did you tune the car as well? I haven’t had a single issue with limp mode or really anything.
@@theoegarage oh no I didn’t tune it I just removed the dpf and last time I did egr delete it went to limp mode and also lost power BUT yesterday I chatted with some tuners website and they said their tune will do emissions delete and it will remove my limp mode so I’ll go head and get a stage 2 tune

You can, this install basically disconnects it
Notice any slippage of the clutch yet? I think this is the perfect setup for my Jetta and the noise won’t piss off the wife when I make her drive it cause the Tahoe is too expensive to drive lol
No slippage on the clutch! They say stage II is good without a clutch upgrade. The car feels so much better to drive, it has the power in all gears and just feels RIGHT! The exhaust is barely noticeable minus some nice start turbo spool and low rpm spool sounds.
@@theoegarage sounds good man. I’m still debating between that setup and the KermaTDI setup without the deletes. The cost of the deletes + tune is the only thing killing me at almost $2k but I know it’s better for the longevity of the engine deleting all the bullshit.

A lot of that is answered on Rawteks website. To summarize, the tuner & tune is an add-on to the delete kit. You’re paying for the tuner, and the tune services (it doesn’t come pre-loaded.) On their website they have a walkthrough of the tune process, but it’s as follows.
1. Connect tuner to your computer. Install the tuner software on your computer. It will then update the tuner.
2. Connect your tuner to your car. It will give you the option to download your cars stock tune file from the car, onto the tuner.
3. Plug tuner into computer. Download the stock tube file and send it in an email to the company.
4. Company will send you a modified tune, download that onto your tuner.
5. Plug tuner into your car and apply the modified tune.

If you have general sockets and wrenches you should be fine. The only special one you need is a 10mm triple square for the axle bolts.

Yes you need a tune. As far as stages, they do a good job of breaking down the stage 1-3 and what setup you have to have in order to run them on the website.

You’re a big boy like me. How the heck did you get under this car? Do you have all four corners on ramps? I’m wondering about jacking up the rear and putting more ramps under the back. I just can’t reach the 02 sensor at all
Fronts on ramps and rear on stands! It was rough at some points. We ended up finding a used quickjack set which was nice for the “center work” but couldn’t be used when dealing with the passenger side under tray.
The ramps up front helped keep the car predictable when bringing up the back, otherwise it’s a pain to jack up corner at a time due to where the jack points are.

Ive got an 11 A3, 110k miles and the light came on and is staying on. It's a diesel-gate car, and just got out of warranty. So, time to straight pipe it, delete and a tune. Im a good mechanic, but I've beem dreading this, a little. But, this is easy, so thank you.
Would you do the EGR delete kit aswell, when you do this, next time? Or, leave it alone... Im thinking of the downpipe, straight pipe, EGR delete and the stage 2 with DSG. Should I be pretty well set?
Thanks for the kind words! The Rawtek kit used does in fact delete the EGR, it’s a small portion of the video but we removed the system and installed the block off plate.

No, it’s a delete kit intended for off road use only.
@OE Garage. Super helpful video. What happens to the brown EGT sensor post install? I am getting a P0544 code and Malone tune is telling me it is that EGT sensor and to plug it back in, but there is nowhere for that sensor to go or is there?????

A bunch of lights will be on - once you drive fir a bit they should go away.
How will it be to pass inspection. Does this have all the monitors bypassed to pass?
You may need secondary tuner assistance with that matter. Technically if you install these parts, you should not be driving the car on the road.

Hello, I don't know if you mentioned or not but I was wondering after downloading the data from the vehicle to be sent to tunezilla if the vehicle is drivable?
As long as you haven’t taken off the OE equipment - otherwise the ECU is going to be very confused lol

@ronniepine5894 double check the sensors that you end up plugging back in (on the back of the head.) The delete kit has you remove a bunch of sensors and disconnect quite a few of those orange/ brown plugs. At the end they either get fully discarded or reconnected. We had to double check we got it right

No. That requires a different turbo as well as an upgraded clutch. Stage II here, albeit I’m now running a stage 1+ Stevenson tune

I would yes, I also think they are TTY bolts 👀

@tannerl5607 I did not use new bolts, I believe it was 148 ft/lbs
The axle flange bolts are I think closer to 50 ft lbs, the wheel hub nut is the one that needs to be tightened to 148 ft lbs. Just clarifying for anybody who might be reading this in the future

I will say the kit is very pricey. Stage one tune and full strait pipe is $2,700 us dollars. But looking at just replacing the stock exhaust with new dpf system is roughly the same cost. Just a wee bit cheaper.
I honestly wouldn’t recommend full straight pipe either. Stick with stock muffler and install a cutout like I did if volume is desired.
@@theoegarage well in my state there are no inspections and no noise desible limits either. My only worry is cabin drone. If it isn't louder than a hub bearing buzzing that's going out. I think I can manage. Ps. I replaced the hub bearing..lol. But it was quite loud when I bought the car..
I read in the description that a scrapper took the old emissions system off of your hands... I was curious if you can send it back to Rawtek for a discount?
Rawtek sends you a rebate for sending them the system - it’s about 1/3 of what you’d get from a recycler.

The EGR delete itself is just a block off plate on two studs. Throw some high temp on it.
@@theoegarage where do you put the block off plate? The pipe with the snakeskin looking stuff on it comes off right? Then do I block off wherever it goes to the back of the motor? I also have no idea what to do with this plethora of unused hoses and plugs now
@@theoegarage there's a pipe coming off the bottom of the turbo that would need to be blocked and then also off the manifold needs the same block off. The egr kit only includes 1 block off plate.

Where do the dpf pressure sensors hoses get connected on the motor ?
That’s kind of a tough one to answer without being able to show you. One goes in the back of the engine and one on the passenger side.

@@theoegarage On the tunezilla page there is a dpf, egr, and swirl delete. Not sure if the swirls are part of the dpf system

decent video but you skipped so much of the removal part. Im doing mine now, Rawteks instructions are terrible, They talk about some 13 mm bolt on the back of the engine I can’t seem to find it. Pictures are bad cant see half the crap they are talking about.
