Thank you for this great detailed video. Just did mine this weekend, this helped tremendously. Took your advise and looked for a pump that had been replaced, but unfortunately my local junk yard had only one fusion with the correct part and it was OEM. Decided to take the chance and so far it is working. Only bump in the road I had was even with the stubby torx socket I couldn't fit my socket wrench in to get the #40 torx bolt. Went and bought a L-shaped torx wrench set, problem solved. Part was $51 and bought probably $30 worth of tools to make the job easier. Guessing I saved myself at least $500.00.

Hi Tim maybe I missed it in your video, but how did you get the air out of the abs unit? was traditional bleeding sufficient enough to remove the air from the module it self through all the valves? one thing i noticed is that you did not have any air come out when you bleed the rears, did you bleed these brakes before filming?
gotcha ok thanks. im working on a 2008 milan right now with the same problem. from my research, one of the valves inside the abs pump starts to stick open which allows the fluid to just circulate back to the reservoir. a temporary fix is to find a slick surface and slam the brakes to activate the abs system. do this several times. I did this today and it has fixed the problem but i am not sure for how long. im sure ill be replacing this abs pump sometime in the future.
Will the bad abs pump cause the abs light to come on. I asked because I may potentially have this problem but I'm skeptical cause the light on the abs lamp has not lighten up

Hello, Can I apply this information for my Ford Escape 2008? Every time when the temperature outside rich 77 F front left brake doesn't release well after discharge brake pedal and i getting locked that brake as a result and overheat front left wheel. I have changed already brake caliper itself. Even during the cold temperature i am hear squeezing noise comes from that side during car stop and after realize pedal . Thank you
Not sure if it's the same, but DEFINITELY check the clips where the brake pads slide on and check the brake hose to that wheel. We have had numerous times when it came out to be the hose.
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos Thank you for your quick answer. I checked it out. I noticed that when I tried to make brake pads apparently, right front wheel moved easy and fast, when left front wheel I applied extra power to move
I did it, after it was getting move easy. One time I even loosed connection between hose and steel tube which goes from ABS unit, it has moved easy (in this way i realized pressure between ABS and caliper cylinder) . So i think that one of solenoids inside ABS unit is in the wrong position (half way open/close).On your opinion is it possible or not?
Another reason why the people that design cars should be made to "work" on the cars they design because I'm sure that they would design them so that they are easier to work on!
I have a 2012 Lincoln MKZ hybrid, when I turned it on all of the sudden warning lights came on, ABS , traction control, giant wrench , P/brake light, service advancetrac. Brake pedal all the way to the floor. To stop the car I need to press very hard on the brake. Is it possible the abs pump or could be the master cylinder.? Thank you
No, we have noticed many people are bypassing the abs pump because of the cost. These parts manufacturers should take notice to this because if someone does it wrong, it can cause a serious accident.
From what we found, there are two lines coming from the master, and four lines from the abs out to the wheels, so the bypass must go as follows: 1. The line from the front of the master must tie into the two lines going to the front wheels. 2. The line from the rear of the master must tie into the two lines going to the rear wheels. According to the feedback we found online, the system worked without any more problems, but they said the abs light will be on.
I have the same problem on my 09 Fusion. The research points to the valves sticking in the hydraulic control unit of the ABS pump. Has anyone tried removing the module and pushing/pulling on the valves to free them up? Also has anyone forced the ABS motor to activate with the vehicle on a hoist? Someone posted that putting the vehicle in gear and pushing the brake pedal activates the pump.

I was told my by junk yard that buying a used abs pump/module from another car wont work because it has to be programmed by a dealership to suit each individual car vin. So is that not true ???
Not sure if anybody else has faced this problem, but mine is different. My ABS pump on 2007 Ford Fusion SEL V6 with only 90K miles, is leaking from bottom at one of those two cylindrical pistons. I first changed the master cylinder thought its an internal leak in the MC, but I figured its a ABS leak when I was bleeding the system for hours and was never able to get the air out. Noticed the ABS is sucking the air in, and leaking out the fluid. I am gonna report it to nhtsa site.
Got a question my brother's got a Ford Ranger pickup and we bled the brakes and he replaced abs and when you start the truck up hit the brakes they go to the floor are you supposed to bleed the ABS pump with a scanner
On this vehicle we did NOT need a scanner, we just bled the brakes manually. But that's not saying the Ranger is the same way, especially depending on the year.
@@trustthesmiledetailing7817 The best advice I can give is look in the salvage yards for an earlier fusion or Focus that did NOT come with ABS. Once you find it, you can follow the instructions we gave in the Impala series. Hope this helps!
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos On the Honda Civic the brake goes to the floor. I tried bleeding the brake still the same. No brake fluid was coming out of the rear passenger side. They just recalled certain ford fusions up to 2010 in December 2019..for this problem. Unfortunately, not all cars are recalled. I'm having this problem and my car fits the category by year and model but not under vin number? When I called the gov place and they ran everything they said "your car is safe to drive" really? My breaks went out while my car was running?!!!
$3,500 is what they quoted me. My car is immaculate and fully loaded but it certainly is not worth more than that. Which is why I'm looking up these videos. Maybe it's something that can be done outside of ford for a gentler tag. Ty!
Notice how we did NOT replace the module, but only replaced the pump part? As long as you just replace the pump, you do not have to program it, or have it programmed.
See. Ford is just trying to get more money from me. They are saying g the whole module needs to be replaced because replacing just the pump is a half job that may soon require the whole module to be replaced anyway. How does that make sense? Thanks for your response. I appreciate your videos!
So the part you need to replace that fixed the problem hasn’t been improved since the model came out. What’s to say the issue will not come back again? The part is 1300 dollars and I think that’s way too much money for a part that Ford hasn’t even recalled.
Hey astral, big fan here, watching you from Texas. I had a similar problem with my uncle's vehicle, watched your videos, alot of great information. I fixed his a while ago, I swore up and down I would never work on another fusion (brake related). It didn't last long. Similar issue, pedal feels different. Replaced pump (New from Ford). New booster and master cylinder. Bleed the system with the scanner by hand and still no pressure. Pedal feels really different. Doesn't stop the car at all. Brakes gave out and that's what it did. Any ideas? Thank's in advance.
Thanks David! Try bleeding them the old fashion way, with another person in the car. Also when you do, MAKE SURE you get a good stream of brake fluid coming out. Keep me posted.
Thank you for the quick reply. I've been bleeding it like that. I tried and tried over and over. No pressure at all, no fluid or nothing. Customer had 4 master cylinders he had installed and removed, I installed one my self, bench bled it and nothing. Seems like when it's on it has very very little pressure, still won't stop the vehicle. When the key is off the very little pressure goes away and feels like nothing is there. It's weird, 1st time to encounter something like this.

Just a FYI to people watching this video there is a recall the came out for the first gen fusion and Milan’s for this problem and I’ve fixed a few second generation fusions with the same issue however that hcu is not currently covered under this recall even thou it has the same issue
Appreciate the info!
I lost the T40 bolt holding the bracket. The one that one inch from the front of the motor. Do you know what size that is? Great video by the way. I just used it to replace my pump. Thanks!
I can't remember, maybe I mentioned it in the video.
Do these pumps have any testing ports/pistons where you can stick something into them and test to see if it is defected? I have a 2011 Ford Fusion and from what I could tell from the video is that their pumps are extremely similar.
Sorry, not sure, but I'm pretty sure there are SOME kind of test that can be done.
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos Alright, thank you for the information. You guys responded to a comment on an old video really fast goddamn
@@l0bsterk1ng That's how all these TH-camrs should be, THANKS for appreciating that!!
Is this the repair that will resolve the "Service Advancetrac" and ABS/brake dash lights on my 2010 ford fusion?
No, this is to address the fading brake pedal.
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos thanks for clarifying, much appreciated. Nice video, very professional
My just went out I'll be using this video for my thanks for the video
Thanks, let us know how it goes!
Brilliant video. Can you please let me know where you got the hose plyers from.
Thanks Stephen, and as far as the hose pliers, it's been so long ago, we forgot, LOL!

Replaced the abs pump with a used part and used the original control module. No improvement. Already replaced the master cylinder. Recommendations for next step?
If all the brakes are bled completely, you might just have gotten a bad one.
Hey I have a 2010 Lincoln MKZ which is same as Ford Fusion and the problem is the brake oil is not coming from the caliper bleeding hose I replaced the master cylinder bleeded but same problem even the brake oil is not coming in the brake abs lines but coming from the master cylinder so that the problem going on. So do I have to change the abs pump ? Or no ? Because there’s no any abs light on.
Try bleeding the brakes with the car on.
Love the video man very informative
Thanks Anthony
Did the ABS module require bleeding? Did you only need to replace the ABS module? Was the ABS pump ok?
The module was okay.
hello, will this affect the advance traction control?
Hi Tim maybe I missed it in your video, but how did you get the air out of the abs unit? was traditional bleeding sufficient enough to remove the air from the module it self through all the valves? one thing i noticed is that you did not have any air come out when you bleed the rears, did you bleed these brakes before filming?
Yes, traditional bleeding was sufficient and you won't get air coming out at first, but as you keep bleeding you will get a little air coming out.
gotcha ok thanks. im working on a 2008 milan right now with the same problem. from my research, one of the valves inside the abs pump starts to stick open which allows the fluid to just circulate back to the reservoir. a temporary fix is to find a slick surface and slam the brakes to activate the abs system. do this several times. I did this today and it has fixed the problem but i am not sure for how long. im sure ill be replacing this abs pump sometime in the future.
@@bcmotorsports1677 i just tried this to unstick my abs valve and it worked. How long before yours became stuck again? If it did?
Will the bad abs pump cause the abs light to come on. I asked because I may potentially have this problem but I'm skeptical cause the light on the abs lamp has not lighten up
It may cause it to come on, in this case, it did not.
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos Thank you sir for the prompt response
Thanks for the posting your vedio.with new ideas
THANKS!!
Astral. Great video. Where have you been getting your ABS pumps?
We get our parts from Fisher Auto Parts, but you could try www.rockauto.com . They have a great selection and great prices.
Hey there just watched the video. I'm having the same issue where after my ABS kicks in it goes soft. Was wondering about the last point you made about disabling the ABS system completely. Is this easy to do? and if so how can I go about doing this? Thanks!
You will have to install a brake booster if your car does not have one, then you will have to eliminate the ABS pump by installing T fittings where the pump is. A lot of people have been asking that same question, so we plan on doing a video on it soon, so watch out for it.
Awesome! thanks for your quick reply!
No problem
why do some say you have to program the module after you replace it ?
If you replace the MODULE, you may have to, but you do not have to if your replace just the PUMP.
Don't know if you figured it out but the line on the front with the loom you put it on the wrong port and that's why you had to bend it
Thanks Dave, we sure did!
good video man!
Appreciate it!
Hey man, I watched your video when you changed out abs module/pump on 08 Ford Fusion. Well I have to change one out on my nieces car she has a 2010 Ford Focus 2.5L. I cannot find this part anywhere. I called O’Reilly’s, Autozone., NAPA and I even tried to find it on Rockauto. Can you please help me out?
Have you tried rockauto.com
Is programming necessary? Fusión 2010 ?
If you replace the module, then yes.
But how did you determine that the module was bad and not pump there ?
Would this work on a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid? Having the same issues.
Sorry, not really sure. If you look up the parts for both vehicles, and they come out to be the same, then I would say yes.
Great Video!! Thank You So Much!!!
THANK YOU!!
Where can I get a good new aftermarket ABS pump for 2008 Ford Fusion?
Not really sure on that one.
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos Thanks for answering. Aren't all the abs pumps in these 2008 Ford Fusions defective? How can replacing with a used one solve the problem? Also can an ABS bypass work? Will it also shut off Traction control?
When it gets like that, open up the left caliper bleeder, and then see if the wheel is easy to move.
HECK YEAH!
Thank you
It is possible, but very slim. The first thing you have to do is have it checked for ANY codes.
Astral Auto Repairs , no codes, I was surprised
@@novapearls What was used to check the codes?
Astral Auto Repairs , I have a wireless OBD with ‘OBD fusion’ app on my phone.
If I eliminate my abs system in my 2008 ford fusion. Do I have to plug any hoses to my calipers lines?
No, we have noticed many people are bypassing the abs pump because of the cost. These parts manufacturers should take notice to this because if someone does it wrong, it can cause a serious accident.
Astral Auto Repairs My husband said if it's okay to connect the brakes directly without abs system?
From what we found, there are two lines coming from the master, and four lines from the abs out to the wheels, so the bypass must go as follows:
1. The line from the front of the master must tie into the two lines going to the front wheels.
2. The line from the rear of the master must tie into the two lines going to the rear wheels.
According to the feedback we found online, the system worked without any more problems, but they said the abs light will be on.
Astral Auto Repairs Thank you so much
Do you have a video showing this bypass ???
Thank you very much
I have the same problem on my 09 Fusion.
We have not tried that, but maybe someone will see your comment that has.

THANKS!
hummm. did you activate the abs for an air bleed? the manuals show you need to do this with a code tool that will activate abs.
Not at all!

I was told my by junk yard that buying a used abs pump/module from another car wont work because it has to be programmed by a dealership to suit each individual car vin. So is that not true ???
No, you can get a used one, just take off your module, and place it on the pump from the junk yard.
So which line is which
There is now currently a recall on those abs pumps
Thank you for the info
Not sure if anybody else has faced this problem, but mine is different. My ABS pump on 2007 Ford Fusion SEL V6 with only 90K miles, is leaking from bottom at one of those two cylindrical pistons. I first changed the master cylinder thought its an internal leak in the MC, but I figured its a ABS leak when I was bleeding the system for hours and was never able to get the air out. Noticed the ABS is sucking the air in, and leaking out the fluid. I am gonna report it to nhtsa site.
did you ever get this issue resolved??
Why is everyone saying I need scan tool to bleed break on my 2011 I can't get fluid so they said kick abs on with scan tool
Can you show us how to eliminate the ABS system?
The process is different for each vehicle, but here is a video series we did on a 2005 Chevy Impala: th-cam.com/video/gFJwgzOfU78/w-d-xo.html

Thank you for that information
Yep, I just got my recall notice as well for a 2008.
I tole side bolt out then just pulled it out off rubbers
Does the original modular has to be put in or can we use another one?
HEY HECTOR, as long as nothing is wrong with the module, you can re-use it
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos On the Honda Civic the brake goes to the floor. I tried bleeding the brake still the same. No brake fluid was coming out of the rear passenger side. Before I got the car the rear brake line was replaced and the front also with the calipers, I check the calipers they are install correctly.
Was it the brake line or the brake hose that was replaced?
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos , Sorry about that . It was the brake hose
If you pump the brake pedal, do you get a pedal, and also, is there ANY brake fluid where the master cylinder meets the brake booster?
Gotta get myself some crows feet 😂
They just recalled certain ford fusions up to 2010 in December 2019..for this problem. Unfortunately, not all cars are recalled. I'm having this problem and my car fits the category by year and model but not under vin number? When I called the gov place and they ran everything they said "your car is safe to drive" really? My breaks went out while my car was running?!!!
That's messed up because these things aren't that cheap!
$3,500 is what they quoted me. My car is immaculate and fully loaded but it certainly is not worth more than that. Which is why I'm looking up these videos. Maybe it's something that can be done outside of ford for a gentler tag. Ty!
@@madidiamondhands Definitely can! We did this customer's car, and the bill was around $325
You replaced the module as well? I thought only Ford could program those and that's why only Ford should replace these?
Notice how we did NOT replace the module, but only replaced the pump part? As long as you just replace the pump, you do not have to program it, or have it programmed.
See. Ford is just trying to get more money from me. They are saying g the whole module needs to be replaced because replacing just the pump is a half job that may soon require the whole module to be replaced anyway. How does that make sense?
Thanks for your response. I appreciate your videos!
@@madidiamondhands No problem!
All the calipers are in same problem the oil is not coming in the calipers
Don't bother taking bracket off just pull it's in rubber mounts
So the part you need to replace that fixed the problem hasn’t been improved since the model came out. What’s to say the issue will not come back again? The part is 1300 dollars and I think that’s way too much money for a part that Ford hasn’t even recalled.
Unless they fixed the issue and never told anyone, so the new ones will not have that problem again. So far this one is doing great.
Do you have a video on how to just eliminate the ABS and just go with standard breaks?
Sorry, no we don't, but that would make for a really good video!
@@davidpedroza3604 Have you checked the proportioning valve? If the proportioning valve gets stuck (usually because there was a problem in the system), you have to manually reset it.
