This song was written by Diane Warren and originally sung by Cher. The last verse was written by Kevin. So it is partially an original :). I believe that Kirstin was pregnant during this filming which added to her beautiful glow. Lastly there are string instruments in this recording. You can see them when they perform live. One of my favourite songs they have ever done. Nice reaction guys!

This video was released in Oct. 2022, so about 4 months after Kirstie's daughter was born. It was obviously shot prior to the release date, but the BTS video has a number of shots of Kirstie walking around and she's not obviously pregnant, so it would have to have been done almost a year prior to release (before she started to show), or I think this was probably shot shortly after she gave birth. I think her glow was from being a new mom (and probably lack of sleep, LOL!).

#Pentatonix originally published this song on their 2022 Christmas album, "Holidays Around The World." The theme of that album was collaborations with other musicians, in many countries, and it was being filmed at a time when most countries had COVID travel restrictions in place. This means that most of the collaborating had to be done from a distance, using electronic means of communication. And most of the collaborators were instrumentalists.
Before "Holidays Around the World" came out, the rule of thumb was, "If there are instruments you'll be able to see them in the video." That rule was smashed to smithereens by "Holidays Around the World." "Prayers For This World" has an entire string orchestra who don't appear in the video.

There are instruments in this one - it's from the beginning of PTX's new era where they abandon a cappella, although they remain predominantly and overwhelmingly vocal. The song is by Diane Warren and was originally sung by Cher in a fundraiser for Syria, but Cher didn't like her version, so Diane Warren took it back, made changes, and Pentatonix recorded it. So it's "sort of" a PTX original, technically, and they claim it as such.

Thanks for this reaction, guys. It is indeed a lovely and heartfelt plea for this world that is in so much trouble. It was written by Dianne Warren for Cher to sing for a documentary on the civil war in Syria. The song was recorded, but the documentary never happened, so I think the rights to the song reverted to Dianne ( I don't know the legalities of song copyrights, so I'm guessing here) and eventually she gave the song to PTX. They did the arrangement and Kevin wrote in the verse that Matt sings. Yes...there are strings in the piece. PTX has experimented often with instruments in some of their pieces in the last 3 years. The album this was on ( Holidays Around The World) has instruments in many of the pieces with the original singers or because that is how the song is traditionally sung. It's an album worth exploring this Christmas...or anytime you want, since we listen to Christmas music all year!
There is a recording of Cher singing this with a children's choir available on YT.

#PTX 💜💜💜💜💜. For a complete 180 degree bop vibe of pure silliness, fun and gorgeous color, I recommend their cover of Come Along.

Although Diane Warren wrote it, and Cher sang it (on a TV special, I believe), Pentatonix's is the first actual recording of the song. This was on their album "Holidays Around the World," which included an interesting mix of collaborations with world musicians, and instrumentals were included pretty much throughout. Kirstin had just given birth right before this was filmed, and she looked stunning, obviously, but you can see a slight difference in her face - that is probably what you were noticing.

Thank you for reacting to this beautiful Pentatonix video. We definitely need prayers for this world. For two completely different moods for Pentatonix videos, please react to "Mad World" and "Come Along". They are two of my favorites.

They are better than we deserve. They seem to have the ability to release songs that the world really needs to hear. Some songs that I think fall in that category are That’s Christmas to Me, Sing, Imagine, Amazing Grace, Mad World, Thank You, The Prayer, and now Prayers for This World. We need to keep making Pentaholics so people can hear the beautiful and important messages that they regularly put out.

It's beautiful, isn't it? Yes, there are strings on this one. This is from their "Holidays Around The World" album. Because they were collaborating with a lot of different artists from around the world for that album, it has more instruments than usual for PTX. Their core is still a cappella, but they are definitely to the point in their careers of doing some experimentation with instruments and production when it suits their artistic purposes. The song was written by Diane Warren, initially for Cher. However Cher never sang it or produced it, so as far as performance, it's considered a PTX original, not a cover, even if they didn't write it.

Cher did actually sing it with a children's choir. It was initially supposed to be performed for a documentary on Syria and the war....the plight of the people....but the documentary never happened. There is a recording of Cher's version available if you look.

Yep original. Like others, love this song, love the video, love the message. The Lucky Ones album is all originals, and each song is about caring, love and positivity. "Coffee in Bed" Kev is insane with the beat boxing on that one. Enjoyed guys.

Hi guys, I've been away a while and have missed you.
    This one was truly amazing.
Their voices were much more mature.
Sorry guys, it was written by Dianne Warren.
They performed it as if it was coming from their verry souls.
What a wonderful reaction, loved it.

Kirstin did look a bit different for this video.
She became a new mother a few months before this video was shot. She said that being a parent made this song hit a bit harder.

Thanks for the reaction. I hope Matt will get more singing time when PTX release their new videos. I think one of the reason they have not released anything nag yet this year is because they are in uncharted territory. RCA decided last year when it ended last year to only renew for Christmas songs only. So, PTX may have to start their own label to market their new non Christmas releases. It will mean more work but it will be more lucrative. But this is all speculation at this point. We should know by next month
