You should watch "The Recording of Evergreen", a short film (about 17 minute) about the recording of the album that this was on. It gives some insight into their decision-making and interactions in the arranging and recording process. It's also just fun to watch!
Apparently the application for a Grammy Nomination for this song was too late. They did manage to apply for Evergreen, the album and it garnered a nomination, but didn't win.
@@GwenneddAnd I am seriously pissed with RCA for dropping the ball on this. Hopefully they've learned their lesson and we'll see "Kiss From a Rose," "O Holy Night," or "Pure Imagination / Christmas Time Is Here" (or all three) nominated next year.
If you want to hear a lot of Kirsty and have a ton of fun at the same time, check out "the Wizard of Ahhhhhs"!! It's a collaboration they do with Todrick Hall 😁😎 I absolutely adore Kirsty's powerful voice, and she definitely uses it in that one. they arrange their own songs, and they always work to put the voices at the "front" that they all agree will be the best for the song they are recording. #PTX knows what they are doing.
This is a tough one for them to do live, as they have to use a backing track because the arrangement is so complex. You’ll notice the various layers when they all come together at about the halfway mark. The arrangement is such a masterpiece. If you haven’t already seen it, they have a mini documentary on their page titled ‘The Making of Evergreen’, which offers a glimpse into their arranging and recording process. It’s very cool.
Great reaction guys!! Funny thing...the original plan when they first decided to do this piece was to have Kirstie do the intro and call & answer portion with Scott...and then Scott came into the studio on recording day and asked if Kirstie and Mitch could change places....Mitch with him on the intro and Kirstie with him on the bridge. Apparently it was considered a better decision and they'd run with that. If you watch the mini-doc The Recording of Evergreen, you''ll see the exchange of ideas on that. It's a 20 min. documentary on the time they spent recording the album Evergreen and it gives a very good view of how they work and collaborate together and how they work with their sound engineer and their arranger, Ben Bram. It's a really informative look at their cohesion and their recording process.
THIS is the song that made me an instant Pentaholic!!! I listened to it when it came out in 2021 and BOOOMM- instant Pentaholic, and I listened to it at least 20 times in a row. I’ve listened to them every day since. I think the way they did it was PERFECT because Mitch is my fave (even though I LOVE them all). Shallow, Say Something, Rather Be, My Favorite Things, Be My Eyes, Water from Popspring 2016 and Wizard of Ahhhs (Todrick Hall project) are all Kirstin leads. For an amazing Scott lead (pre-grit/rasp voice 😊), please react to Waving From a Window. It’s from the Broadway hit musical Dear Evan Hansen, and it is an arrangement that is 🔥. #PTX
Fun Fact, Toddrick went to High School with Scoot, Mitch and Kirstin. He was a year ahead of Scott. Can you imagine that High School Choir?? WOW!!! Todrrick was on one of the singing compition shows.
The Wizard of Ahhhhs with Todrick Hall, if you havent seen it, features Kirtie most of the song. You will love it if you are a Kirstie fan. I'm a Mitch Grassi Superfan, so I'm biased. He is so so perfect every time, and his vocal ability and control, are spectacular, not to mention tenors are my favorite. I have two favorite singers in all the world and they are Mitch running close second to a southern gospel artist. David Phelps
I think it was exactly the way it should be as artists. They are masters at picking the right singers for each song. Kirstin is a power singer. Mitch has that lovely pure tone. And Scott can do anything. Matt and Kevin made it magical.
Actually people who speak fluent Italian have said that Scott was spot on and did great. If you want to hear them sing in French look for their cover of Papaoutai, if you want to hear them sing in Japanese look for their Perfume Medley (Perfume Is a 3 member Japanese girl group), it’s a blend of 3 of their songs. Kevin speaks fluent Mandarin, as far as I know the other members don’t speak other languages, they worked with interpreters and vocal coaches to learn these parts.
There is something so special about their ability, to tell the songs story, allowing us to listen with a new perspective, and hear & feel emotions, we may not have heard from the original artist 💖💖💖 Not only their voices, but their delivery is also their gift! *IMO, no other group, can build up a song, like Pentatonix* They are masters at pulling on our emotions!!! 💗💗💗 *They are individually so talented, however, when put together, it is truly magical* 💗💗💗 Thank you for such thoughtful reactions 💗💗💗
Pretty much everyone who recognizes the song title expects Kirstin to be singing the lead, usually with Scott - it's a hoot to see people's reactions when they realize Mitch is singing Celine Dion's part - and doing it without even any problems!
He's such a good belter. His belting in Mary did you Know and o holy night kind of show that they wanted him to be the magic of those specific parts. This song too when he and kirstie are going back and forth. He may have an angelic voice but don't count him out as a powerful singer.
Talk about being transported, heavenly harmonies in a beautifully written piece of music. I have listened to at least 4 different artists perform this and even thought each was a bit different, this song just continues to take me to another plane.
I loved your reaction when Scott came in! Completely Scott-stunned! BTW, I think the last note at the end is Kevin at the top, in his crystal-clear falsetto. At this point, you might want to watch The Recording of Evergreen, which is a brief (~20 minutes) documentary that will show you how they work together, and you also have the treat of watching them - especially Kirstin - react to the first full cut of this song. Amazing, a little humorous, and very stirring.
That last high note is Mitch with just Scott underneath him. He's singing the parts right up to that part and the tone of voice doesn't change. Plus Mitch and Scott have the song's melody at that point and are singing it to the end.
Absolutely stunning - I was also waiting for Kirsten - personally thought they arranged it perfect for each voice - love the excitement you both bring to the reactions
They all shine in Prayers for this World. Kirsty has an epic solo there, too. Thanks for mentioning all of them here. Some may have missed that because as some said on other videos, you are misinformed about how they all have integral parts whether lead or support. For example, Kirsty was phenomenal as support in Kiss From A Rose. Yet on that same Christmas collection, she had solos in O Holy Night, Christmas Time is Here, etc. and all lead on Please Santa Please. Maybe a bit more familiarity with their 100s of songs will shed more light.
What a great reaction to my favorite PTX song. The fact that Kirsten could have done as well as Mitch, I can’t imagine this song without Mitch starting it. It just blows me away when Mitch and Kirsty share the verses later in the song though. I loved your reaction. LeeJaay, you showed your excitement and approval, which was great. However, Stan reacted a bit like I do every time I hear this song. I loved the look on his face, his feelings were in written in his expression! A beautiful and warm, feeling reaction! The PTX originals 'Be My Eyes' and 'Water' not only feature Kirsten heavily, but she primarily wrote them as well. Both are amazing. She also has some really great stuff on the last few XMas albums.
They have sung in French, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean, too - possibly more I can't think of, lol. Scott did a lovely job with the Italian. They have a video of the making of Evergreen, the album this is on, and Kirstin gets to hear the almost finished mix for the first time and she is so cute and stoked about how it turned out!
Hallo great people had people over. After midnight in South Africa. Just had to listen. All5 of these people are so special. Mitch is great with the Celine Dion part. They are magnificent. Greetings from South Africa
Check out "The Making of Evergreen". You can react to the actual behind the scenes process PTX used in making The Prayer as well as all the songs in their Christmas album, " Evergreen".
LOL guess you need to go do "Papaoutai" by PTX. It also has Lyndsey Sterling, In addition The Perfume Medley with Kirstin singing in a foreign language. She has some original by herself stuff, "Break A Little", "Naked", "Bad Weather", also...PTX "Rather Be", the Clean Bandit upgrade. This was masterful, enjoyed it guys.
Sorry, I was so blown away by your amazingly British good looks and accents that I missed the singing. Seriously though, awesome reaction! Love the channel.
Kirsten would have worked as the lead and I would almost wish for more Kirsten every time all the time but Kirstentonix just wouldn't be the same. We need all five and they do an immaculate job of deciding how to use each member to bring out the best for each performance.
Now that you have listened to The Prayer, you should react to “Pentatonix - The Recording Of Evergreen”. It shows the creative process of making their Grammy nominated album, Evergreen.
I’m a big Kirstin fan, but I believe that the Mitch/Scott duet was excellent. Good Kirstin lead songs are Rather Be, Shallow, My Favorite Things, Love Me When I Don’t, and Be My Eyes. The last two were co-written by her. She also has strong verses in Amazing Grace, Shallow, and Seasons Of Love. She also has the lead on quite a few audio tracks.
You can't go wrong listening to anything #Pentatonix has released; it's all gorgeous. But all pentaholics have our own personal favorites that we like to recommend. These are some of my favorites: • "Hallelujah" (the official video, with Avi) • "Hallelujah" ( a recent live performance, with Matt: th-cam.com/video/FqphhPapkoc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tC6Ew07JGeQKQvDL ) • "Imagine" (the official video) • "Run To You" (an original, written by Avi and Kevin) • "Happy Now" (another original) • "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (their second Grammy winner) • "O Come All Ye Faithful" • "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" • "The Lucky Ones" (an original, written by Scott) • "Thank You" (an original, written by Scott and his then fiancé, now husband, Mark Manio Hoying, shortly after the end of COVID lockdown, about how much easier it was to get through that time because they were together) • "The Kevin Show/Kevin's Fifth." This is a live feed from a concert they gave in Owensboro, Kentucky, Kevin's home town: th-cam.com/video/DbCasvcNx78/w-d-xo.html Additionally, IF you're familiar with _"The Wizard Of Oz"_ (the 1939 movie starring Judy Garland), I strongly recommend "Todrick Hall - The Wizard of Ahhhs (ft. Pentatonix)": th-cam.com/video/QkVeKb2igrg/w-d-xo.html If you've never seen the movie it won't make sense, so take care of that first.
Just an FYI Scott mostly sings the foreign language solos. Not sure why but he always kills it. Kirstin has her moments. One of my favorites of theirs is Water which is all Kirstin. Check it out.
Great reaction! For Kirstie Amazing Grace, Shallow, Can You Feel The Love Tonight. For foreign: Papaoutai, Perfume Medley, Gangnum Style, A little Space w Ateez. Butter x Dynamite ( BTS cover)
Foreign Language #PTX? Time for Papaoutai! I do like the way they did this. Mitch's voice is so angelic and then Kirstin came in and brought the power. I think she is the best belter of all of them.
You guys know that Mitch is the most powerful singer in ptx, right? He has mastery of his voice however so he can make his voice delicate or belt at will, his range is above Kirsty too as a counter tenor and he matches Celine note for high note without effort. This song was his. Not Kirsty or anyone else's.
Written by David Foster and Carole Bayer Sager, for Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion to sing in the 1998 film Quest for Camelot an animated film) Josh Groban does a version with Charlotte Church which I love. I do not like the original (Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli) prior to this being released my favorite cqover is Josh Groban and Charlotte Church . when Josh Groban was getting his start David Foster was his manager . Josh was a stand-in for Andrea when Selene was practicing . They then called Andrea and said you need to get out here fast cuz there's this kid In the Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli's duet Andrea's parts are all sung in Italian where as in this version they switch to English after the first verse. Scott and Mitch's voices go together so very well. Check out the songs they released through their side project early on as Superfruit. Many reactors think that what Scott is saying in Italian is what Mitch just said in English. It is not. Just Google lyrics for The Prayer and you'll get the lyrics which has the translation of the Italian into English. Originally it was written that all of Scott's part is done in Italian. It was not written to be a Christmas song. But since it appeared on their Christmas album everybody Associates the two together. The same is true of Hallelujah and seasons for love. Seasons of Love from the Broadway show/movie RENT is sung by Kirsty and she knocks it out of the park. Also in say something be my eyes a few of my favorite things and please Santa please she does all of the singing shallow she really shines in. On her Channel Kirstin she has her solo work which is very good. There is a behind the scenes video for this. Every so often Pentatonix does do a behind-the-scenes clip
For those ethereal high vocals I would choose Mitch every time. For high belting I'd go with Kirstin. And in both cases the choice is extremely close; it could go either way. According to everyone in Pentatonix, including Scott, Scott is the member most likely to forget the lyrics. So of COURSE his voice was the best for Andrea Bocelli's part in this song. No, Scott does not speak Italian; he had to learn this by rote and he worked very hard to get the pronunciation right. According to people who do speak Italian he succeeded. Bocelli is pronounced Bo-chell'-ee, emphasis on the second syllable. Isn't Scott's suit beautiful? It is not, however, appropriate wear for a snowy forest, and that's because they weren't in a snowy forest; they were on one of the most beautiful sets I've ever seen.
My observation is that mitch does better for softer high parts and kirsties specialty is belting..... I love this arrangement and wouldn't have changed a thing.... I love mitch's soft high voice.... Angelic.... You guys just try say something. It's one of kirsties moments to shine and she is absolutely the right choice for that song!
Disagreed. In most of our reactions, we mention the talents of the great Mitch Grassi. This was one video, we say "well more first in would be nice" 🔫 we have also recorded Superfruit with kirstin and sing his praises. 👋

Now that you have listened to The Prayer, you should react to “Pentatonix - The Recording Of Evergreen”. It shows the creative process of making their Grammy nominated album, Evergreen.
They saved Kirsten for the insane belting part. They chose that for a reason.
She spells her name KIRSTIN, without an E.
Hope you are feeling better Lee Jaay, hope you are doing well Stan.
YOUR NEXT REACTION SHOULD BE OH HOLY NIGHT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S AAA
If you want to hear Kirsty in the lead, try "Water", or "Be my eyes", that's all on top of my head, but I don't think that's all.
Rather Be is a song where Kirstin sings the lead most of the song.
You can't go wrong listening to anything #Pentatonix has released; it's all gorgeous. But all pentaholics have our own personal favorites that we like to recommend. These are some of my favorites:
• "Hallelujah" (the official video, with Avi)
• "Hallelujah" ( a recent live performance, with Matt: th-cam.com/video/FqphhPapkoc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tC6Ew07JGeQKQvDL )
• "Imagine" (the official video)
• "Run To You" (an original, written by Avi and Kevin)
• "Happy Now" (another original)
• "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (their second Grammy winner)
• "O Come All Ye Faithful"
• "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch"
• "The Lucky Ones" (an original, written by Scott)
• "Thank You" (an original, written by Scott and his then fiancé, now husband, Mark Manio Hoying, shortly after the end of COVID lockdown, about how much easier it was to get through that time because they were together)
• "The Kevin Show/Kevin's Fifth." This is a live feed from a concert they gave in Owensboro, Kentucky, Kevin's home town: th-cam.com/video/DbCasvcNx78/w-d-xo.html
Additionally, IF you're familiar with _"The Wizard Of Oz"_ (the 1939 movie starring Judy Garland), I strongly recommend "Todrick Hall - The Wizard of Ahhhs (ft. Pentatonix)": th-cam.com/video/QkVeKb2igrg/w-d-xo.html If you've never seen the movie it won't make sense, so take care of that first.
There’s only one commandment for listening to PTX. Thou shalt not interrupt Kirstie, without rewinding and starting her feature from the beginning.
Thanks for this reaction, if you want songs with Kirstin on lead, try “Be my eyes” and “Rather be”.
Just an FYI Scott mostly sings the foreign language solos. Not sure why but he always kills it. Kirstin has her moments. One of my favorites of theirs is Water which is all Kirstin. Check it out.
If you want to hear them sing in French watch Papaoutai featuring Lindsay Sterling. Its amazing!
Ptx has done several songs with lots of different languages. French, Japanese, Italian, and Spanish.
Great reaction! For Kirstie Amazing Grace, Shallow, Can You Feel The Love Tonight. For foreign: Papaoutai, Perfume Medley, Gangnum Style, A little Space w Ateez.
Butter x Dynamite ( BTS cover)
No, Mitch and Scott voices blend so well together, Kristin had her moment and she will have more vocals in other reactions
Check out Scott singing in Korean in Gangum style. They also have some Spanish and French in some of their songs
Please, react to their cover of shallow❤❤
For more Kerstin: react to their version of „rather be“!
Foreign Language #PTX? Time for Papaoutai! I do like the way they did this. Mitch's voice is so angelic and then Kirstin came in and brought the power. I think she is the best belter of all of them.
more Kirsten in 'Be My Eyes'
You guys know that Mitch is the most powerful singer in ptx, right? He has mastery of his voice however so he can make his voice delicate or belt at will, his range is above Kirsty too as a counter tenor and he matches Celine note for high note without effort. This song was his. Not Kirsty or anyone else's.
He is very talented and we don't mean it like he hasn't. All personal preferences ☺️
Watch the circle of life or amazing grace. I think those are both some of Kristen’s best work
#ptx
it was done the way it was suppose. Kirsty would have been really good but Mitch was magical
I think Kirstin would have done an incredible job as the lead with Scott but I don’t think it would have sounded as good as it does.
Next.. Love me when I don't.. Features Kristin
You should react to their "Perfume Medley" - it's in japanese!
Sounds amazing
Written by David Foster and Carole Bayer
Sager, for Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion to sing in the 1998 film Quest for Camelot an animated film) Josh Groban does a version with Charlotte Church which I love.
For Kirsten, review Love Me When I Don’t.
Seems like you always have a complaint when Mitch gets to shine. You overlook his talent and talk about Scott or someone else being fit for his part…
It's personal preference. Loved him doing Michael Jackson and when he does the techno parts 👍
Yo lol did u just pick ur nose on camera?😂
Sort of lol... i Have a spot in my nose, which is very very annoying hahaha
Watch Papaoutai and hear him sing in French.
Mitch can be powerful just as kirstin yall are taking talent away from mitch
Disagreed. In most of our reactions, we mention the talents of the great Mitch Grassi. This was one video, we say "well more first in would be nice" 🔫 we have also recorded Superfruit with kirstin and sing his praises. 👋
Pentatonix doesn't just involve around kirstin they are a group
Agreed, hence why in all of our reaction we complement each and every one of them
Watch Papaoutai and hear him sing in French.
