Ferris is all we run. 3 stand ons 2 - Z3X and a sit down ISX 2200 full suspension (Cadillac ). Once you get to 61" & 72" Z3X's the tires are super wide and they "Stick" like glue to slopes. I couldn't wait until you did this review. I knew you would finally find a decent riding Stander. Changing the hydro fluid and filters ( built-in) are pretty easy to change. Except accessing the bleeder/weep plug to let the air purge sucks. Also, on the Vanguard oil system the oil filter (Cartridge ) is just under the cap of the oil reservoir. 500 hrs oil changes is huge. The external oil reservoir and amount of oil circulating through the system reduces the temperature of the oil making the engine last longer. It's a 500$ upgrade but well worth it. Keep pumping out the great videos in this series.
My dealer has Wright and Ferris so I'm spoiled enough to have test driven the ZK and Z3X recently. The Z3X may very well have cut better, but the ZK's controls sold me *on the spot.* I have serious arthritis in my fingers and quickly found a way to palm the ZK's handles with minimal finger use. I'm so blessed to have found a way to keep the biz going strong. So grateful to Wright for the opportunity, they'll probably never know how much it means! Not knocking anything you had to say about the Z3X. It's just like you said, whatever fits your needs.
These are the videos that are most important and valuable for lawn care professionals to watch. You just can’t put a price on this kind of honest reviews. The details revealed here in this series will help shape new companies and reshape existing ones. Great job sir! You are so appreciated! 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
I own a 61" Ferris Z3X 37HP Vangaurd and like most of it. Cut quality is descent, not great, I cut northern turf. Ride quality is so good that when I converted to Exmark Vertex mowers, i realized that my body felt far less fatigued on the Ferris compared to my Emarks. Changing the oil and oil filter is the easiest hands down compared to other engines, kohler, kawasaki, etc. Changing the hydraulic oil is a pain. After everything is said and done, this mower makes cutting grass a pleasure. Thanks for all the videos, Pete!
The reason some manufacturers don't put the PTO knob on the back of the control panel is because when you lean into the mower you can hit the PTO knob and shut it off. Especially if you tend to eat a lot. Ask me how I know. Haha.
Good reviews on the Ferris. I have the z2. 52 inch and z3x 72 in. I can't say enough good things about mine. That 72 hugs a hill like a dream. Both are fuel injected and it's great on gas savings. I'm sure your leads will love it. To me it's just as good as the Wright zx.
Thank you for the opinion. I'm looking for a good stander. The Ferris guys I talk to, love them, and the Wright guys, love theirs. But that suspension on the Ferris seems nice
Guess this is the mower you purchased for your HOME! You LOVE this mower and I can see why! Would love to see you do a review of push mowers, gas and electrics, for the homeowner!! That would be a fun video! I currently mow with a 11 year old Honda HRX
I love my 61" Ferris Z3X for my 2.5 acre lawn!! I've had mine 4 years and not a single issue. I did add a Big League Lawn striping kit to make my lines pop (TTTF, Bluegrass, & Rye) in Minnesota. I also added a foot actuated grass flap for mowing around flower beds/garden.
My grass flap only lasted 2.5 years and I switched to a qwikchute on my Z3X. So the BLL striping kit makes that big of a difference? I would love to see pics!
I purchased the 36 & zx3 52 brand new Ferris stand on almost 5 years ago. I’m a happy camper! Here in south Florida it’s very dependable all the way around. I never had a problem with it, my deck belt finally gave up a week ago after running it over 4 years now and my fork bearing also went out but, with an Awsome dealer support, the owner and staff got it fixed in 30 minutes under warranty. That’s A+ plus to me. I’m very happy with my 52 vanguard 37hp. Plenty of HP. Can’t go wrong with ferris! I know some people have bad luck with them but like you said some people is unlucky getting a lemon mower, not just Ferris but any brand. This is my honest experience and opinion since I been a 8 years Ferris owner.
Love the comparisons between drag racing and mowers lol seems like we have the same visual interests. The only thing I noticed about this mower that I was not a fan of, was the welded baffles. I run the green Bobcats still and I have bent one a time or 2. Being able to just unbolt them and slap a new one on without justifying the cut quality, is reassuring. But all in all, seems like this may be the top dog.
thanks pete! ive been waiting days for this particular review because i've been looking at the Ferris Z1 as a purchase for this year. Not the exact same more of course, but a lot of the concepts are the same for the review. The one knock I have noticed based on specs is the cutting height. I wish it went lower for bermuda yards.
Maintenance wise-hydro filter/fluid change are basically impossible (definitely let your dealer handle those) Greasing spindles is also difficult. All those suspension bars get in the way. But I do love this mower! I’ve owned several. Almost impossible to scalp and rides like a dream
The easiest way I do the hydro's. Drive it on the wheel ramps once in the air use a jack on the cross member remove the ramps and level the machine. When you take the filters off take the wheels off. There is an opening to get to your bleeder. Put the new filters on and fill slowly in the reservoir until your bleeder starts pumping out liquid. You don't have to fully remove it just until it starts to consistently flow with no air. Literally this process takes on average, maybe 45 minutes an hour. The longest amount of time is filling it up. Hope this helps
Pete is there any chance of you doing these test with zero turns? I’m building a house on our 5 acres and the ground is kinda rough. I would like to hear your take on zero turns. I’m looking at the Ferris isx3300 and the spartan kgz-xd.
That’s what I’m talking bout Pete. You kno I ride red and I been a Ferris guy for awhile now and I’m sold. That’s the exact mower I just got for my daily driver the 52” also with the big block. And man you can’t lie she’s got a phatty stance from the back like a drag car, there’s a guy on tube with two of these and got em on tweels and it’s the hottest looking mower I’ve seen period hands down
Ferris recommendeds not to engage the blades while moving. The one plus to this mower is the clutch. its is recommended to engage the blade at full throttle. The pto knob in the right position. After operating one for 5 plus years. Is two fingers down slap up. You're good to go step off the deck. It turns the blades off and the best thing is it doesn't shut the mower off. If you get stuck you can get off of it and still maneuver with the with the hand operations. I could say out of all of the pieces of equipment I've operated ferris stand-ons are amazing. Cuting slopes, omg i chaged the tires on mine to the bad boy tires. No sliding! Now cut quality. You have to play with the deck quite a bit and I found the best thing for the cut is to leave your deck 100% level. Don't use the quarter inch method.
Same company as Simplicity mowers, I have never seen a Simplicity that did not cut absolutely beautifully. I always felt like it was something to do with blade tip speed and vacuum underneath. The straight edge underneath probably has a lot to do with the discharge working so well.
I agree William, I have had a simplicity rider for many years and they have the best cutting deck of any riding tractor I’ve ever used but I was looking for a new one recently and was told that back in October/November 2023 Simplicity had gone out of business. I am devastated
@@gerryhenning7337 I heard that as well. I think so many people have shifted away from standard riders to zero turn, walk behinds or stand-ons that it probably didn't make sense for them to continue with production. It's a shame, best riding mower I've ever owned.
Hey Pete, always enjoy your North Carolina accent and watching your Lawn care videos… But definitely have to disagree with your assertion of no negative comments. Not sure what your intention is here, but if they’re all American made, it just means somebody’s gonna go to another brand. That’s also American made, but what you’re doing is precluding someone from learning about a bad product and suffering, and that little lawn care business is suffering with an inferior product when an experience with another company could’ve led them to another American made product with a better experience
Man after COVID, the manufacturer or somebody fell off. Nothing but problems with our new ones. Spindles, hydo belts, clutches, pto switches, fan going through the gas tank lol. Good luck. Mark my words lol you can thank B&S

Have you ran the new 60”? I’ve heard it cuts better than the standard ICD decks. I haven’t had a chance to get my hands on one yet.
How do this mower cut quality compare to the vertex in your opinion?

Did you get your shirts from HCSO?
You can’t give ride quality a 10, but you could’ve given it a 9.5😭
I would love to see you do a similar comparison with walk behind 30-32" mowers.
Stoked to see the reviews on this. Ive been running a toro multiforce for about 850 hours and just added a z3x to the fleet after demoing one.
Great feedback, great review! We hear you!!

I bought a Ferris FW15 two summers ago. I anticipate it will be the last mower I ever buy.
I see A LOT of red in Pete's future.
What do you think of the Bradley mower?

This is that bad ass 1972 plymouth roadrunner that is balls to the walls and ...actually has handling. 😂
My neighbor has a Ferris rider and he loves the ride comfort. I was wandering how you would like the ride quality.
If my money was not a option, ferris is where I would spend my money.

Does your car have suspension why not your mower?
Add a good tire sealant and drop the air pressure to 8lbs big difference
Looks like we have a winner!!
Ferris has patents on the suspension is the only reason other mowers don't have it.
