Living with the land truly is Peak fiction. I loved it when the narrator said “it’s living time” and then totally lived with that land. The ride must earn Disney 1 landillion dollars.

Me my wife and son rode behind you on living with the land at closing time the other night! We opened the gate for you at exit as you ran off to soarin. Nice to see that you actually like the attraction and not just a meme. It was a pleasure to see you in the wild 😂

So, way back when in 1987 if you were hired as an attractions host at epcot this would be your first role. You had to learn a 26 page spiel and they figured if you could get through that you could get through anything. I was lucky and they had an influx of cast members at the time I was hired so I got cast to Universe of Energy. Listen to the land was amazing and it was always fun when you had cast member friends assigned there. We'd visit and get on their boat and try to make them screw up 😂

This is my absolute favorite ride and the reason I got a degree in agriculture. The behind the “seeds” tour that they offer is really informational and fun because you get to walk through all the greenhouse. I’m also pretty sure it’s the cheapest behind the scenes tour they offer at Disney for any attraction.

We took our grandma to this ride during my family's two visits to Epcot. She grew up in China, and she loves gardening and growing food. This is her favorite Disney ride besides Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters/Space Ranger Spin.
Also, I remember loving the old 90s vibe of the ride, especially the intro dark ride section. If I ever visit Epcot again, I'd ride it for the nostalgia alone.
    (and yeah, the plants)

Living with the land is by far the best ride at Epcot, it really shows what Epcot is all about. The ride is very relaxing and really screams the 80's with it's first segment. I love the little western area with the buffalo and prairie dog animatronics since it shows a glimpse of what the Western River Expedition could have been. Please Disney bring the Thunder Mesa Land to real life!!!

  • @turcj

While I was watching this version of The Journey into Imagination, or whatever it's called these days, I figured out how they could easily fix the ride with just a simple reskin. They could keep the ride operating in it's current configuration and only replace some of the sets. Replace Eric Idle with the Dream Finder from the Original ride. Use his face on all of the screens at the first stop. In the second stop, replace those horrible speakers for the train with an animatronic Dream Finder (on a blimplike air craft if there is room) and introduce Figment. Then make all of the other stops fanciful and Magical (think Mystic Manor). They could even keep the upside down room - it fits into the general mood that this new version would create. The original ride celebrated the joy of discovery. Figment was Joy! When they redid the ride (twice), they took away the wonder and joy and introduced negativity with the Eric Idle character. This also changed Figment from Joy into Annoyance. Thus we all now find this ride annoying. Especially those of us who remember the original ride.

  • @shaggytallboy4982

The part when you talked about the Millennial history, there used to be pop up meet and greets there years ago and some times they would hide Mickey all the way at the end so he couldn't be seen from the main street. Those were great!
This video is why we could be friends. I absolutely love Living With The Land, it's by far my favorite Epcot ride. I completely agree with you about the screen room, I've always thought it was weird. I did not know about the nods to the other rides, I love it more now!
When I was a little kid, I fell asleep with my grandmother after we ate in this pavilion and no one woke me up and the rest of the family went on this ride without me and ever since then I've rode it every time I go, to make up for missing it when I was probably 5 years old.
I had the dream of one day retiring and moving to Orlando and working part time at Epcot and being the narrator that rode on the ride and sat on that stool at the front of the boat. I was so disappointed when they took that out.

3 weeks ago I flew from California to Orlando just to visit EPCOT for one day…and went on Living With The Land 4 times in a row.
The Cast Member asked, “like this ride much?”
I said, “no…but yes. I do like it. I’m just trying to ride on it without someone behind me TALKING THE ENTIRE TIME.”
It took 4 times to finally get a silent ride where I could enjoy the narration!

The ride is so good because it employs all the old school Disney practical effects. All the stuff they are dumping from new rides. Then you have the aspect of agriculture (which I find very cool). Other than that, you have the relaxing atmosphere, air conditioning and a ride thats longer that 2 minutes. Great way to cool off on a hot Florida day.

Journey Into Imagination messes with you by PROMISING touch and taste labs, DANGLING them in front of you, and then YOINKING them away because there would be no feasible way for them to do that from a moving vehicle, yet they went with the five senses theme anyway. Living With The Land PROMISES you ecosystems, crops, fish, and optimism, and DELIVERS on all counts. Part of my heart is forever rooted there.

I'm ashamed to admit that I skipped this ride on my trip to Disney World this year. In my defense, I hadn't been to a Disney park in over a decade and I wanted to prioritize the newer rides that I hadn't experienced yet. It's cool that Living With the Land still has the feel of classic EPCOT and I love that they use the produce grown there. It's never been one of my favorite rides though (don't hate me, Dallin!).
Maybe if it still had that folksy "Listen to the Land" song, I would rate it higher. That was a banger.

So happy that others love Living with the Land as much as I do :) Its a must ride for me at Epcot. Relaxing, good vibes, educational, and great smells. The smells always are a huge consideration in ride quality lol
On a random note, I haven't been to WDW since March of 2020, literally was there 3 weeks before the pandemic went crazy. But I have to say, I am really surprised (and more than a tad bit disappointed) that you can see "backstage" as you ride the skyliner into Epcot. One thing I love about Disney is their attention to detail and immersion. Its so odd to me that they would allow the illusion to be ruined like that. Weird.

I’m convinced that Disney is going to try to bring more Frozen to the state side parks! They’ve already seen a lot of success with Frozen ever after and lightening lane and they are bringing it to two other parks! Wouldn’t it be cool though to see a tangled thrill ride based on the scene from the mines?

The park closes at 9? Sheesh. I remember leaving there much later back when I went a lot. For sure they had to drive me out of the park after dining late and the park was closed. We ate at the upstairs French restaurant (chef Paul’s is it?) on a big double decker bus. I don’t think they have them anymore. I’m old. Hahaha.

Omg. I was talking to my dad today (since I've never been, but he went around 10 years ago) and he had absolutely no clue there was anything besides the countries. No idea about Imagination, Land, or Sea pavillion. 🤦‍♀️

“that’s spaceship earth. she’s the prettiest girl in school” screams my favorite vine of all time, which was:
“who do you think the hottest girl in school is?”
    “the epcot ball”
“well i like melanie and -“
    “…. epcot”
