There's one way to make new helium, and that's nuclear reactions. The nuclear fusion reactors that're currently still being developed use Hydrogen and fuse it to make helium, like the sun does. Basically, it makes hydrogen feckin warm and puts it under pressure like it's in the core of the sun, and then the hydrogen atoms combine into helium atoms and release even more heat. The extra heat gets the classic "use it to boil water" like we've been doing since steam engines and the helium can be used for other stuff

We're not actually running out of helium. We're just running out of the really, really cheap helium we had for 30 years or so, when the US decided to dump most of their helium reserve into the market. That's also the real meaning of "the world's helium reserves were halved over the last two decades" (or variations thereof) that you see in a lot of websites. That's true. The key word there being _reserves_ (as in, helium that had been extracted and was in storage). There's still plenty left underground, it just costs some money to get it.
Dara, I'm here to help you: here's how you're going to retire rich. Get the old gang together, Hugh, Andy, Milton, etc., Make some bootleg Scenes videos, and post them here. The world misses the old show. If you monetize them right, you could make a fortune, at least until you get sued by BBC. Good luck.

We do make helium as a byproduct of processing natural gas. Its just that capturing and purifying it is very costly.
