  • "Art as expression, not as market campaigns." The paradox of Permanent Waves is that it's one of my favorite albums despite the fact that none of the songs would be on my short list of favorites. I just think it's a great sounding album. This tour was also my first time seeing the band in concert at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, NY. We had to wax my friend's father's car in order to get him to drive us to the show. Covering this song is really a test of endurance; it's one of the tougher ones - for me anyway.

Notice how he is beat?! Imagine singing over top of that, playin taurus pedals, and ocassional keyboard interludes.Do that for 40 years, screaming on some songs. Touring endlessly and you get the magic of RUSH. Musicianship on High! Totem Pole to the bass player that needed a nap after that one!!! Kudos RUSH again. Neil is 60, and Geddy and Alex are 59, and we think we have aches and pains! Bless you all, hope more Rush-like bands will rear their ugly heads. A 70's joke, Geddy Lee is the Best paid Ugliest Woman in Rock. (Again it was a joke back then when they toured with Kiss). Still a fan and know they have a short time left, so I am going to enjoy it. Bass players beat hard! Guitarist strum along.

I love how you shake your wrist to get the tension out at about 2:04. Those straight eigths for that riff are no joke. I do the same thing at that point.

Rickenbacker phat as hell - one of the greatest songs of all times. This "isolated" look at the bass lines proves it.

No brian here. Yay! Great version! I learned most of this one a while ago,I have to go back and finish some of the little runs. This song is a real hand buster! Watching your version of this song made me realize that I missed some small details in it (the section starting at 3:39). Great learning. Thanks for that!

When I started playing I never used my pinky and it developed into a very bad habit. It's only recently that I started using it and it only works in conjunction with my middle finger. My ring finger served the pinky's function for so long they almost move as one now. That's awesome you're going to see them - it was a great show. Have a good time.

I use to swear that the drum break at 2:03 was so that Geddy could rest / shake out his hand like you did. :)
I do the exact same thing at that point in the tune.
Right hand just aching at that point.
Of course Ged does it AND sings. just sick.

specifically, it's 2:32 to 2:36. It's a half beat late start on a relatively simple riff, but for some reason my brain won't accept it ha ha. There are other sections in the song of similar difficulty. You have impressed upon me to work out the "small details" just like Ed Norton said to Ralph. I really love playing this song, and I would love it more if I could play it correctly. Yes, it will come. In the meantime, I will enjoy your upload.
