Skenfrith Castle, located in Monmouthshire, Wales, was built in the early 12th century by the Normans to control the Welsh border. Initially a simple wooden motte-and-bailey structure, it was later rebuilt in stone by Hubert de Burgh in the early 13th century. De Burgh added a circular keep and strong curtain walls, making it a formidable fortress.
The castle played a key role in the conflicts between the English and Welsh due to its strategic location by the River Monnow. However, by the late 15th century, its military importance declined, and it fell into ruin.
Today, Skenfrith Castle is managed by Cadw, and visitors can explore its ruins to learn about medieval military architecture and historical Anglo-Welsh conflicts.

What a fabulous castle. You took some great shots, to give us a good feeling of the size of the place.
And as always, thanks so much for all the back ground info - I appreciate it a lot.
Many greetings from Bangkok....
Thomas

The base of these walls are really thick. I loved the explanation as to why this wasn't located on a nearby hill. A great series. Thanks for sharing I really enjoyed it.

Hello Alessa and Brett. What a lovely Castle ruins. Great history , I enjoyed hearing how the Castle was used in Dr Who, I didn’t realise. The keep house would have been a lovely part of the castle. Brilliant drone footage and your narration was lovely. Great video, take care xx Julie and Tony xx

Interesting castle, you can see the importance - close to the English Border, not far from the river and a safe haven if a raiding party tries their luck. Great video and superbly narrated , Alessa. Looks great from above too.
Hello lovelies! Well this was a very splendid tour of this magnificent Welsh Castle! Love it featured in Dr Who 11th Doctor! And so much has been done to improve its structure! The way it’s shot and the way you tell it’s storey just transports you back in time! Absolutely superb! Great Ariel shots! Love ya’s have a great week ahead ❤️
Great shots of nature and forest around with amazing shots of this castle. Well done once again my friends Alessa & Brett 😊😊👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it, Sretana and Zac you're both so kind always! appreciate your time! x
Hi Alessa Sorry for my absence. I will be out for a day filming trip catch up on it soon. I also will on my filming trip this weekend since the US will be having the Memorial Weekend.
We're always busy... working full time leaves little time for YT... but that's life.
Hi Alessa,
Another history to praise your research.
I am glad Dr. Who's feature made some influence for this ruin to be acknowledged.
I have not seen them. I must watch it.
It seems the property and castle are rather cozy and charming
Chatting with you is what I miss the most
So sorry I could not make it.
Always, excellent work and you nailed it.
Couldn't imagine getting a castle as a gift let alone 3 castles! OMG it has to be so hard for these people to build the castle in the first place and these guys just flatten it and start over 😳They didn't have wrecking balls back then, what did that project look like. Interesting about on the walls and location. Watergate was something completely different here in the states 😁
Amazing castle ruin, I love that you can still see, where some of the buildings were. Fantastic walking tour of the castle.
Thanks for watching Thomas, what a fab support you are, appreciate your time always!
Lovely tour Alessa 😊 Great view over looking the grounds from the sky 😊
Wonderful castle tour, Alessa and Brett! Loved hearing about it's history and the views from both below and above. It is unusual to see it built down low. I'm happy it didn't face as many challenges as many castles did. Even Watto and I could attack downhill! 🤣🤣
Thank you so very much for watching and commenting. It's quite something to see it on low land level rather than typical motte and bailey on a hilltop, hehe
Hello my good friend🤚

Hi both, another stunning castle. We need to get down to south wales! We've been wide this year, both times for funerals!! The tower of this one reminds me of flint! Considering its age, it's in pretty good nick this one. Great video guys and of course amazing drone work! Cheers 🍻
The ruins are beautiful. I like how it looked from above. I am catching the parts I missed from the premiere 😊

Cool place in rather lovely surroundings. Looks like a pretty church in the neighborhood.
Thank you very much Seb, appreciate your time and comments!
Great video Alessa & Brett, so good to hear all about the history of Grosmont Castle. It looked almost like it was built to fit next to that river & in between the river & road. But the road was maybe not there then? Or maybe it was 🤷🏼♀️
Great castle tour, very impressive place. Great video
Thank you so very much for watching and commenting Cara, you're always so kind!, truly appreciated!

Very very interesting (your narration shines a light on the ruins ) without it much would be lost
Amazing how much work could be done for £40 pounds or so back in the day 😳
Fastening

Hello, a very interesting castle ruin. It's really big. I also like the 4K quality. I would like to see better camera work. In my last video I showed and also explained (subtitles also available in English) how to walk with the camera without rocking. In other words, as if the camera were on rails. But you showed a lot and also gave a lot of information. I was able to read them via subtitles. The thumbs up no. 108 is from me. Greetings Rainer
Thanks so much for watching, appreciate your comments and time!
bet so much history dates back to the castle
It's pretty incredible! As are all the welsh castles, thank you so much for commenting and watching!
