Moriarty's NP(And hell his whole plot in shinjuku) is a reference to a short story by Isaac Asimov 'The Ultimate Crime'(Who himself was a big sherlock fan/geek, enough he wrote what is essentially meta fanfiction and was apart of a big time fan club called The Baker Street Irregulars)
Long story short, the fan club gets interested in what 'The dynamics of an Asteroid' was really about, and theorize as to what it could be and how it was relevant to the great criminal mastermind
The final theory they reach is kind of insane. Presuming date of publication (around 1875), and what was known about astronomy at the time, is that Moriarty must have written that the likely origin of the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter was a planet which exploded in the distant past. They further postulates that Moriarty may have intended to repeat such an event by calculating how to destroy Earth in a similar manner - the ultimate crime - and that for this reason the horrified scientific community, on finally realizing what Moriarty had written, suppressed his work.

Fun fact ironically as much as he pulls evil shit, he has a good side that he shows with the master and Frankenstein, moriarty is able to feel compassion and care especcialy show because in one of his interludes moriarty isn’t trying to deceive u at all but do to his reputation is hard to believe him cause he suspects Sherlock might not be who he seems ironically once u have a good bond with him for him it’s hard to actually betray u, ironically he is indeed trustworthy once he warms up to u, also as a previous comment said it’s not evil or good moriary, moriarty deleted his own memory do to having to be our friend for his plan to work cause by using the free shooter last bullet which targets the person he cares the most about positively he would attract the asteroid that would he used as the 7th bullet so yeh he actually became our friend but than went oh right I am villain and I have a last scheme to pull off however in chaldea he is way later back but also by the time of after traum he actually cares about his master to the point he has a heart to heart about a certain event that happened in traum, also for the servant fusion with the free shooter, there is an explanation I don’t know how u missed but moriarty in the shinjuku singularity experimented with saint graphs and he self modified to make himself more powerfull by fusing other spirits to gain their abilities and skills and he wasn’t the only one, hessian lobo is such a creation, a fusion of 3 phantoms that coudnt be servants to create a new one by combining the giant wolf lobo, hessian the headless horseman and the invisible man and yang qing with the doppelgänger, yes this actually is part of his skill set as a genius cause intelligent characters like him and morgan seem to be quite good at hacking the servant classes and the code of it to pull stuff like this

God that Summer 4 scene with Moriarty was so vicious. My personal highlight of the character, with him being able to dismantle Lancelot without even lifting a finger by ripping open the emotional baggage he carries.

The headcanon I saw about "giving the evil alignment" is that his manipulations fool good intended people into doing evil acts.
Thus, they're unwitting accomplices of his evil plan, and thus evil in the eyes of the victims.

I personally feel Moriarity’s bond CE having the same name as the NP makes sense once you read the description of it.
“You know that old mountain climber saying?
"Why do I climb Mount Everest? Because it's there."
People inherently want to challenge their limits, and I can't help but want to confirm my own hypothesis.
You see, Master, I did the calculations, and I concluded that I can, in fact, do this.
Now, I have no choice but to see if I was correct, even if I must resort to evil to do so!
Hmm, yes, it's all quite backwards, isn't it.
Instead of destroying the world because I'm evil, I became evil in order to destroy the world”

To get into the weeds a bit, it wasn’t so much a good and evil Moriarty as Moriarty giving himself amnesia until he activated the trigger, and Bael disguised as Moriarty to act as the decoy/trigger. That said, it’s interesting how Shinjuku by lore probably would have the majority of the servants from it qualify as Alter Ego’s rather than the standard classes, such as Hessian Lobo being a fusion of the Headless Horseman and Lobo, or as with Moriarty, Max and him. Guess it’s just the limits of design since it wasn’t until the CCC SERAPH event that Alter Ego’s were developed as a class.

Oh man, you're much harder on Moriarty than I expected! I'd thought you would give him a B or something. But I guess your points do make sense and it kind of hurt his score a bit in regards to the lore. I quite literally forgot that he was fused with another Phantom Spirit. Perhaps that was the reason his accuracy and lore and everything else wasn't as strong. I feel like if those weren't connected to the Shinjuku event and Moriarty is his own Servant, it may have tipped the scale in his favour instead. FGO Moriarty feels (to me at least) like a dandy gentleman who is a criminal mastermind that unfortunately occasionally falls into the comedic villain trap trope. I won't deny that he's highly intelligent and certainly can hold his own. Then again, we've so little of Moriarty's entire personality from the book, and what little that Holmes tells to Watson could be selective as well. Only Holmes knows the extent of Moriarty's personality. Would have loved it if the craft essence is Reichenbach Falls and add more to his lore. The asteroid and astrophysics is a good touch though, being a brilliant mathematician that he is.

Moriarty is a fun character overall
I love his design as is and I'd say the same about his Ruler version on JP
I never really read the Sherlock novels nor watched the shows so I have no idea of what he's like in them but it did surprise me that there's little mention of him in the books

    • @miershyk
      @miershyk 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah in the novels Moriarty was only written and has direct involvement in two of the stories, and then mentioned in five others. Again, those are the words of Holmes to his friend Watson, and likely what little is known from perhaps known society (for example the people who knows Moriarty). The prof is indeed an enigmatic man and the workings of his mind is as fascinating as Holmes'.

I finished Shinjuku up not too long ago, and it really made me fall in love with Moriarty. I don't care much for the running joke of him treating Fran like his grand daughter, but anytime the game lets him be the scheming mastermind he should be, it is really fun. Also, these lore accuracy videos a really interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing more!

Summer 2 was before my time in the game, so I actually haven't seen much of the Moriarty-Fran stuff. I usually just see him as the mastermind of crime and mischief, which I very much enjoy. :D

Another good work down of the character. I was surprised you didn't bring up his fatherly affections for Fran. While it might have just been for comedy, I found it sweet as well as adding another layer to his character. That and him taking a 'mad scientists' creation under his wing, especially since they were both famous English novel characters from the 1800's.

I will mention it in the upcoming Fran video. I didn't get to it in the Moriarty video because I already had a bunch of material to go through, and I wasn't around for Summer 2 so the Fran/Moriarty relationship wasn't on my radar as much. On the other hand, Summer 4 was one of my earliest events, and so Moriarty roasting Lancelot was pretty memorable for me.

Moriarty: Hey! It is not my fault that Type-Moon/Lasengle has represented me as I am: a Servant fused with concepts from another Servant whose historical relationship between both is inexistent. Not to mention the lack of true Evil Servants since they always redeem them when they don't deserve redemption due to historical context (points at Nero Claudius from a distance... that "UmU")
Moriarty: At least I can still defend myself in terms of Gameplay, but it still bothers me that FGO did me dirty with my representation.
d'Eon: First time? At least you have a cool (albeit original) animation with your butterfly cannon/bazooka. I still have generic animations of a simple Saber and a terrible kit even when I debuted for the first time in FGO. I curse that "Castoria at home"!
Jeanne: WHO ARE YOU CALLING "CASTORIA AT HOME"?! The one who deserves an updated kit with Animations Improvements is me!
Both (Moriarty and d'Eon): GO TO SLEEP, GRANDMA! There is no interest from Type-Moon/Lasengle towards you since better Saberfaces arrived!

      @brunosanto3488 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@CrazyYurie Maybe? Although it was more of a fun fact that I noticed from the three videos you made about those three characters.
      - Moriarty will have some artistic freedom with his representation and his way of being in FGO (but maintaining the idea of being a villain or a manipulator to a lesser extent). However, at least he has a presence in the story, he is still somewhat viable in Gameplay and has striking Battle Animations (despite having nothing to do with the character)
      - d'Eon is quite faithful to the real-life figure in many ways. However, their characterization became quite dirty in FGO: not to mention that they don't have much of a presence in the story and they are used more as a joke character. In addition, their kit has not aged well and has been one of the Servants that least people recommend carrying or having in your team.
      - Jeanne is a fairly faithful representation of the character from real human history and has a kit that lives up to her representation. However, other than that, her kit and her Battle Animations are outdated or obsolete by current FGO standards (despite being a popular character, this does not guarantee attention)

Here I am Again also the comment of the designer shows some why of the choices Of the design ### Comment from Illustrator
I was certainly not expecting that it would result in this many characters so far, like this suspicious old man who’s being given all sorts of nicknames such as Shincha[1], Shinjuku Ojisan and Around 50. His image that was being depicted at the time was cold-hearted and unjust, and he was designed with a calculating and intellectual image, but I’m taking my hat off to Mr. Writer who broke through that stereotype and obliged to write him as who he’s now fascinatingly! Truly amazing! Design-wise, the Ulysses butterflies are a metaphor for a frail victim and the shedding of a disguise during metamorphosis, the chameleon is a metaphor for camouflage, and the spiderweb in the background is a metaphor for a mastermind manipulating crimes from the center; a metaphorical old man. In addition, he’s also an old man whose True Name being hidden was not functioning very well for him. I can say it at last, but I came up with and depicted the orientation and pose in the drawings of Moriarty’s standing pose so that it turns out to be the opposite to Holmes’. (Honjou Raita)
    **Gray Collar Spiritual Dress**
I challenged myself in wanting to draw a version of Moriaty with his hair down lol. This man has the mysterious character trait where he even puts on whatever kind of clothes he has and wears them in his own style, which is convenient for me, but I wonder what does he want, so even I can’t understand his motives… I noticed that after I finished drawing him, his standing posture has become a ballroom dancing pose. (Honjou Raita)
    ***Notes:***
[1] - Shincha is a combination of Shin from Shinjuku and Cha from Archer (Aacha in Romaji). Some people call Moriarty “*New Tea*” because of that (Shin = New, Cha = Tea).

By the way, although it is for Gameplay reasons... What implications would the fact that Moriarty has an ability that allows changing the affiliation of the Servants to be affiliated with Evil have?
Especially, those Servants who (according to Lore or other reasons) cannot be Evil.
I mean... in hypothetical case, Moriarty could have an Evil Merlin, Evil Nero or an Evil Mash (Servant usually affiliated with good)

@@CrazyYurie All love and roses... until an OP Servant affiliated with good turns Evil thanks to Moriarty for only three turns and is already threatening to destroy the world or an entire civilization.

I feel it's pretty easy to explain. That skill as a whole is a manifestation of Moriarty's skills as a evil mastermind. Able to manipulate everyone around him for his own plans. Thus, when Moriarty uses this skill to help direct his allies they are expecting his evil plan, thus temporarily gaining the Evil Alignment

C as an avarage or normal is a bit of tought on Moriarty. You decribe him as B or A and give him a C for room of creative in an anime gacha game... are you gonna gove genderbend characters E- from the start? Im conflicted bc I understand that in this video lower score is not equal worse character, but still I think you are to harsh to him and several other character, if thet were 1:1 to their historical or novel counterparts it would be just plain boring. Fate series is like only one that have very high level of research and reference to original characters unlike most of the anime/games that have just a name, several notable features and a cute anime idol like character for most of historical characters

When it comes to gender-bend characters, ultimately I care more about characterization than design. So long as at least some effort is made to link the character to the original, it won't hurt them that much. And if the gender swap is done well? It may actually give them a boost. I'm still not entirely sure how I'll approach this yet, but I do know that a gender swap won't automatically have me throw a character into the bin. The only characters who will get roasted are those who are abject failures.
