Exactly the same issue with the ZWO EAF kit and the earlier DSD AF3 kit. I own both. So as you found putting the helical focuser ring the other way around is the solution to avoid fouling. Some of DeepSky Dad's videos show it the other way around but the information isn't consistent. The latest ZWO EAF one I have has extra spacers that go under the helical focuser ring. I can only imagine that the later RedCats have a bigger diameter body so the spacers compensate for the older RedCats. Great video Ben.

Great tutorial Ben! The helical focuser on the RedCat is the main reason I don't own one, but it doesn't look like a valid reason any longer lol! Thanks for sharing man.

      Thanks Joe.
I always wondered why WO did this design, probably to make it unique and stand out from the rest, I dont know. But it's good that there is kits out there that allows you to get an EAF on these scopes.
      Take it easy buddy.

its horrible to focus. Terrible. I've just got my DSD and EAF.

Good tip. I was getting caught up with the official instructions saying the gearing had to be installed flush at the end of the rubber focuser and there isn't room to install the EAF to align the pulley in that way.

I bought the kit and in my case the finishing quality was excellent. Thanks for the tutorial, very helpful.

      Thanks Avanteesh.
Yeh it is looking like it could be an all red set up the way it's going. I think it's looking nice though and starting to look the part. Mayby I should add a different colour into the mix just to throw it off, haha.
      Clear Skies Buddy!

Great video Ben.. now you can leave that scope out all night and it will keep everything in focus. Looking forward to seeing the images :)

      Thanks James.
      Slowley coming together.
Think I will need to get another EAF so I don't have to take it off the RedCat.

great video thanks. The ring is definitely not the correct way the first time you had it on. It should be the other way like you changed it to. Switching it round doesn't affect the operation - it still grips the focuser.

Ben, I liked your video - it's obviously not a sponsored one, but a genuine user's view. Well done! I'm in the market for a Redcat 71 but haven't seen any kit like this available, yet. You haven't heard whether DeepSkyDad has released one, have you? I am faced with making my own belt drive AF setup, and I'm none too mechanical, so a tried and tested commercial one would suit me better.

      Hi Christopher.
Thanks very much for watching and your great comment.
There is actualy a kit available on the Deep Sky Dad site. I don't know when this became available but here is the link for you.

Hope this helps and Clear Skies!

@@CosmuzzAstro Thanks for the info, Ben. The kit looks interesting, but slinging the EAF below the 'scope and thereby raising it looks a bit clumsy to me. I would prefer the EAF to be mounted alongside the 'scope. I suppose the kit has most of the parts necessary to do this - I'll need to think about that! - as all you would need is a bar mounted 90-dec off the 'scope's mounting. Still, it's a good start, and I'll keep watch on how people find the kit (a TH-cam video, or two, perhaps?).

Of course the 71 is bigger and a little heavier than the 51, and as I don't have the bigger sister, I can only say that I have found the kit works well with my set up. You do right to do some research if in any doubt.
      Hope you get sorted eventually.
      Clear Skies!

I didnt buy this eaf kit due to the fit and finish, but I think moving the gear back off the shaft slightly wouldn't be a problem
