Jag såg filmen via en TV box. Riktigt bra film. Kram
This is not Icelandic just so people in the comments understand. It's Old Norse, which was spoken in Norway from 800-1200 A.D. Icelandic and Old Norse are very similar, but they are not identical.
I just watched this movie, and it was amazing. One of the details I noticed was that the Birkebeinerne still had some reference for the old gods, which, as a history nerd, made me happy. It's one of those great details that you wouldn't miss, but you're glad are there.

Thank you for the lyrics 🙏 I like the old Norwegian language! My grandmother was from Norway and i have been there with her… In Sweden there is one place the still talk old Swedish… It sounds similar,to old Norwegian 👍 Ordinarie Swedish people dosn’t understand old Swedish…
Noone should understand it becsuse it's a dead language. It is inspired by Icelandic and som isolated dialects in Norway. I speak such a dialect so understand somthing, but not much. This is sadly not close to the orgianal langauge tho.

Best video ever made to help in this topic? Best SINGER ever, for my point of view (beautiful and very strong and robust and holding ... natural talent) and overall this nordicnorwegian rich beautyness makes this an excellent experience, that i guess, for me is almost erotic! ;-) ... This is very similar to Icelandic, but it is actually an old Norwegian language! For a long, very long time ago, the Norwegian and the Icelandic language was very similar. If you read about the history of norway (scandinavia) you will understand. :)
Дмитро Сокол The language is called old norse. It was the language spoken in Scandinavia, Iceland and the Faroe Islands during/around the viking era or so, years 800-1200 ca..
This song is about a little child born i Denmark and was hated so they tried to kill the baby because his father was Norwegian king who was killed by the danish people and the nortmen travel to Denmark on skies and saved the baby and took him to Norway and he became the King who buildt Norway and separatet Denmark from Norway.
Håkon Håkonsson (the child) wasn't from Denmark, he was born in what was known as Folkenborg. Today Folkenborg is called Eidsberg and is in Østfold in Norway. He was the only known son of king Håkon Sverresson of Norway. His father was a Birkebeiner king and it was in the middle of a civil war/conflict when he died. Håkon and his mother (Inga of Varteig) fled from Eidsberg to Trondheim (the capital) to get to safety as they lived in a area where Baglerne had control, and because of who his father was, it became to dangerous for them to stay.
You know it's bad when your Icelandic boyfriend says: "it's Feroese. Sounds like Icelandic, but poorly pronounced". At first I thought it was Icelandic. but when I heard the more or less Norwegian words, I too think it sounds more like Feroese tho they are claiming it's supposed to be Old Norse. Feroese is closer to Norwegian than Iceland is to Norwegian. Tho I understand both. I was really looking forward to the movie Birkebeinerne, since I am Norwegian. I love history and I grew up with my mom telling me this story so high expectations. Glad I streamed it and didn't buy it. Disappointing. Beautiful music...acting not so much. Dunno if it's because I can't take it seriously when in Norwegian. At least they could have put in the effort and spoken in old Norse when they bothered to do the same with the music. Oh well... and to all the racist people, I am Norwegian. Ethnicity and nationality are two very different things. I'm Norwegian on paper, and that's all you need to know. Raised in Norway to a ethnic Norwegian couple with all the traditions that comes with it in the same culture as my Norwegian peers during the 90's! Norwegian is my 1st language. And my mom is even a Norwegian language teacher.

Only in this epic movie you see Tormund and Jarl Borg together.

Icelandic and Old Norse are very similar, but they are not identical.
For me it sounds close to identical.
Probably because she is trying to use Icelandic pronunciation.
Do you have a true norwegian pronouncitation from that time?
Arne Torp er vel eksperten på det feltet
Yes, only similar to Icelandic
Stunning voice Helene. Age of Conan brought me here ;)

Norwegian folk music.
Niobesnuppa old norse folk music. old norse and norwegian are two different languages
