    26:46 Office365 is actually pretty big and people use outlook in that all the time given it's part of the subscription.
    sure for home use it's stupid, but for business use it actually works quite well. and the azure cloud intergration meaning you actually have a way to admin it, without having to set up an exchange environment, cause that SUCKS

      @G T That will be going away in the future though. I love the snappiness of the lightweight UWP app, but there's a lot of clunk in the design too. The Mail and Calendar apps will be getting replaced with Project Monarch. (ie. a standalone app version of the Outlook web codebase)

      I would agree.
      I do not understand how they can say "who uses outlook?"`
      Shows that they have never worked in a big company. All of them use outlook.
      If properly integrated with teams it is a breeze to use.
      Book appointments directly from Outlook or Teams. Calender sync and you see the status of the person you are contacting in either App.
      Filesharing via drag and drop in Teams (via Azure).
      Direct videocall to everybody in the company, with screensharing if needed. You can pull everybody later into a call if you need more people.
      You can also set up the videocalls so people from other companies than your own can join in.
      The ability for big companoes to host the Outlook and Teams servers on their hardware (data security).

    It's funny how Oura is Finnish and their own videos pronounce it totally different from how locals pronounce it, but since it's a stylized version of an ancient Finnish/Swedish word "Ora", which means a couple of different things like a rock of sorts, a thorn or a cobbler's awl, they've gone that way and locals pronounce it "Oh-ra" as Finns tend to pronounce things as they're written - like literally everything - cause that's how Finnish is pronounced.

      You see this sometimes, they exist in a niche tech bubble when it comes to how a lot of tech is used and really aren't that great at relating to segments of users who have use case's outside of those Linus, Luke et al are familiar with. I mean the Mac studio and apple silicon has been a game changer for Audio production and they haven't been able to understand that.

I tried it on my phone when I was trying to degoogle my life a bit (I realize I'm still on Android, alas), and I really like it to be honest! I'm not a fan of using on the desktop, although perhaps that's just because I associate with using my work's absurdly slow remote desktop connection, but I like its widgets, that the calendar is integrated into a single app with the email, and a few other things.

    My dad was working on Google Fiber when they were trying to set it up in San Jose. The way Google management handled the telecom companies they contracted to setup the infrastructure seemed to be a large reason why it's been such a stop-start process to actually get the project rolled out to more places

    • @HeroUnit
      @HeroUnit 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      In my experience with small fiber companies, they are all skeleton crews that work in bursts when city permits for new areas are approved, and do individual house hookups in existing coverage areas when waiting on red tape.

    • @Waitwhat469
      @Waitwhat469 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I tried reaching out on behalf of municipal for Google Fiber to try and get them out to our town, and received a lot of "maybe in the future" from them even after getting a lot of leg work out of the way (space on the poles was secured, had meetings with dark fiber providers that serviced the area, had local buisness show support for getting, etc).
      So it wasn't surprising that they didn't make any progress.

    • @MrRickulus
      @MrRickulus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I guess to elaborate my point, Google did a lot of big leaguing and anytime my dad or other managers from the contracted company told Google "it can't be done the way you want, it needs to be done this way", the response was generally "do it our way because we're Google". Also, they weren't even in the camp of throw more money at the problem to solve it, even if they ran into more expenses than expected. Just a weird superiority to the whole operation.

      Personally I think companies just have to expect different people will pronounce your name differently, even in sponsored content.
      I great example for this is car brands like Hyundai, Porsche or even more extreme for abbreviation company names like BMW, VW, HP, IBM where everybody just spells it in their language anyway.
      It is absolutely unavoidable given the amount of different languages on this planet.

    As to the backpack carabiner failure, I *used* to use a carabiner for my keychain ... and they fail. A lot. So I am in no way surprised. I have never seen such a failure-prone concept as the carabiner. I can only hope that people who actually rope climb have better carabiners. As for me, I switched to a quick link. (That chain link with the screw closure.) Those hold up so much better. A decade later and my original quick link on my keychain is still holding solid! Linus and LTT staff, please please please consider replacing your backpack carabiner with a quick link.

      Ditched Gmail on my phone and never been happier. Probably better apps around, but Outlook does the job plenty for me. I'm a mere non-business user, though, and I rarely write emails, mostly a reception-box usage. But I have like 6 accounts from 3 services (gmail, hotmail and yahoo), and yeah I have no trouble keeping up with my mail.
      Spam filter is good for me and I set specific accounts and senders for push notifications. It also integrates well with the Microsoft authenticator. All my accounts are interconnected with 2FA and I love the simple flow of the auth process.
      Desktop Mail is cool too but I do most of my email reading on my phone. Again probably better solutions but it's been great for me. Certainly better than Gmail. Don't recall exactly why but I was fed up one day and just ditched it all, I'm sure I wrote a review mentioning why. Still have my accounts and all, but now I view them through Outlook.

    My cockatiel got out one time back when I lived in Pasadena. He was outside for about 23 hours before we managed to get him back. Cockatiels aren't as intensely flock-oriented like budgies so playing bird sounds didn't work, but we did walk around the neighborhood whistling his song (because he responds to it) and carrying his cage (for the same reason mentioned in the video).
    We did our best to keep our eyes on him, but he probably flew for MANY, MANY miles that day. (Seriously had to have been at least 15 miles total given how far we went following him.) We saw him doing huge circles in the sky, had to have been hundreds of feet above the ground. And we knew it was him, because he was calling out to us the whole time he was flying, but he was too panicked to come to us on his own. (The poor little guy didn't like flying DOWN. He used to fly up and perch on a door, but when he wanted down he would cry out for someone to come rescue him. He can do it now but it took him a couple years.)
    When he got too tired to keep flying, he found a place to land and hide. It was getting dark so he found a place to sleep. Going to bed that night was really hard for us. The next day we stayed outside all morning to listen for his contact call. I don't know where he slept but we eventually found him outside but we couldn't reach him. We chased him around the neighborhood but whenever we would try to climb up to get him or try to get him to fly down to us, he'd get spooked and fly away to another place to perch.
    Finally he landed somewhere that he was able to climb down instead of flying. My wife coaxed him over... And then grabbed him in her shirt and ran home.
    He did get out again one other time, a few months later, but we got him back in under half an hour that time. I think he kind of figured out what he did wrong the first time and learned from it.
    He hasn't wanted to go outside since then! We used to be scared to open the door when he was in the room but now we know we don't have to fear that anymore.

    Outlook will survive because of Office 365 + Onedrive for most users. I know you can pair it to a non-microsoft/outlook email account, but it is convenient to separate it "in case" there is an issue with the account, at least it will only take down one email account.
    It is pretty convenient (for me) to separate email accounts. I have both paid accounts for gmail (domain/work email) and outlook (due to onedrive and office365 family account I have). I also use Window Mail App (instead of Office Outlook) to easily get alerts for new emails on outlook, gmail and even my ancient yahoo account.
    To each his own regarding this.
    On another note, it was the first time I had my laptop checked if I could add another 4gb of memory since Windows 11 shows it only uses 1 o 2. after it was opened and checked (soldered ram 1 stick only), couldn't upgrade/add ram so it was returned to me. Windows locked me out via bitlocker feature. And the "key" could be found on my microsoft/outlook account. So, it was "convenient" as a feature I've never seen used before.

    Wow Luke! Your computer teacher from highschool sounds amazing and I feel you were lucky to have someone so supportive of your academic goals! He sounds like he really went above and beyond to accommodate you and your desire to learn about computers! The fact that he went to take a college programming course during his summer break, just so he could come back and teach you and some other students who were also interested in that, is absolutely amazing! My 6th grade science teacher was like that. I got really interested in c++ and other programming languages in 6th grade, and he went out of his way to teach me a little of what he knew, and went out and bought really nice (and pricey) programming books with his own money to give to me so I could continue to learn in my free time! I ended up completing all the science curriculum way early, so he let me learn my programming stuff during class time, which was awesome 😎 Due to having ADHD, I really excelled in school with topics I found personal interest in, especially if the teacher was accommodating In helping me learn what I wanted. But if a class was boring, and the teacher didn't really care or wasn't accommodating, I REALLY struggled in those classes. Shout out to all those teachers who are actually passionate about teaching their students and go above and beyond to do so!

      @G T I bought a pair of titanium frames, very expensive. There are thin pieces that outstretch to hold the nose pads. After about a month, one of them just snapped off, almost cut my nose. Thankfully the company replaced them free of charge. But I didn't wear that pair of glasses much and went back to my old backup frames because despite how lightweight they are, the material is not designed for any sort of fatigue flexing with those thin wall sections. Designed for style and status, not a lot of consideration for structure or longevity. A gimmick and a waste of money for me, lesson learned. Titanium is lightweight for its strength, but that doesn't mean it's perfect for every application, linus isn't designing a backpack for NASA astronauts, so there's literally no reason to be using titanium when steel or stainless would be perfectly suitable.

A bit niche, but not to mention how easy it is to attach email messages to other emails and also the ability to edit subject lines. Outlook desktop also lets you mange your communications separately in different windows while Gmail is just an in-browser experience. It is great business tool, but requires some training to use effectively and just doesn't have the convenient integration with Gsuite. Gmail wins out for least resistance/convenience I guess.

      I never used "old" outlook, but work used it up until a few months ago. It worked fine 🤷‍♀The only incredibly frustrating problem I had was it doing the weird "focused" view thing to certain emails. But, gmail does that with social and promotions so I can't hate on it too much when both are obnoxious that way

The youtube app has changed drastically for the worse, requiring many additional taps, swipes and interactions to complete actions than before, such as adding to a playlist, liking a video etc. The forced theme change on PC was insanely annoying.

    Zipper Pulls - The 's' carabiner appears to be or very similar to a product Nite-Ize sells. I've had one on my keychain for almost 10 years, it's warn but still functions like a top. They do make smaller sizes, like zipper pull size that does work despite the size. The titanium one is cool - But it won't hold up long term. It will fail. The benefit of the s style you showed is the wire that holds it closed is also the spring making it very durable.

But that's just me. I like the way those kinds of beeners look anyways.

    I don't understand how a consumer facing product can be allowed to become a fire hazard even if the user doesn't do anything. As long its not subjected to any unreasonable stress, they should absolutely be designed in a way they pose no risk. If I am not using something and its just going to lie in some dark corner, it can be allowed to degrade in performance but cannot be allowed to become a fire hazard.

It's cleaner, you have more control, the built-in calendar is better, and it's just not annoying to use.

    I doubt this will get seen, but in regards to the compressor setup, you need higher head amp and more aggressive compression. There are often times when they talk too quiet and you can't hear them well, so you turn up your own volume only for them to start talking loudly about something and blow your ears off. I run live front of house audio as a little side gig and volunteer at some churches running it Sunday mornings. Pastors with loud speaking voices often get a higher head amp gain, and a compressor that's aggressive enough to always be triggered by their normal talking voice (usually a 2:5.1 or even 3:1 compressor ratio). But once they get quiet, you can still hear them pretty well. It's a balance you have to find with your particular mics, compressor, and talking host. Just wanted to give my two cents!

    1:58:14 Your 15A breaker may be woofed - replace it and try. Your other option is to remove that 15A breaker and stick a 20A (not a good idea) in the box. Monitor the temperature of the wire under full load - if it remains below the max temp of the wire's insulation, you're prime!
