As others have said putting down cardboard (you can get it free from dumpsters of stores) followed by leaves kills off weeds. Check with a few landscaping companies for leaves or save your grass cutting when you mow as it is your best mulch for the garden and is free. The other thing I have found is alternating crops summer and winter helps your soil. I plant sweet peas and cauliflower or cabbage during the fall and winter as my winter crops and the peas fix the soil with nitrogen for your summer crops plus you eat year round. Keep going!! You guys are really ON IT!!

Morning from Colorado! I discovered your channel yesterday and can't wait to share it with my aunt. You're doing a great job! And if you don't mind here are a few tricks you can use in the future: It would be beneficial to your gardens if you put down cardboard before laying landscaping fabric/plastic/mulch. For some strange reason cardboard snuffs out weeds and builds nutrient in soils. Some people, such as myself will use a pre emergent, like Preen, in the walkways. A pre emergent stops plant life from coming up; however, if vegetation is on the surface you will need to surface treat unwanted plant life. And if you're wanting to do things naturally then making a salt solution will kill weed/grass. Channels I've found helpful when it comes to gardening are Garden Answer, Hollis and Nancy and Gardening with Creekside. Laura, over at Garden Answer talks about using cardboard on removing grassy areas and weeds. Hollis is the man when it comes to showing you how to grow your own food. Oh! Another person you can check out is the guy over at Epic Gardening. Then there's the woman over at Homestead Heart and then there's Becoming a Farm Girl. She shows you how to grow food vertically. All these people are great! And when it comes to building your own home the couple over at Wild Wonderful Off Grid and the couple that's in Texas called Life Uncontained could truly be inspirational. Those two couples are doing it! They are both totally off grid and have built some amazing houses and homesteads. There's another couple somewhere in Idaho that has built an impressive homestead but I don't know there names. Becky over at Acre Homestead is great for canning. And! Me! I'm too scared to post a video! I'm a successful DIY person and can build most anything. Yet! I'm too scared to post my work because I'm afraid my videos won't look good. So! My hat is off to you for getting in the arena and trying. And one more person from Texas that's doing BIG things is DIY Wife. She's great! I love her work! Take care and I look forwards to seeing more videos from you. ~Annette

Your husband‘s been really building. I feel like y’all need to build like a small carport or something so y’all can be shaded under there when y’all working out or maybe put some half of your area area or some shaded areas cause you will be needing to move some of the plants need to be in shade ., that Texas heat it’ll kick its butt.🌱🌱🌱 (plants)

I'm sure you have already finished your garden project , that roll of stuff is fabric cloth in my experience using that stuff didn't work so well but I did put cardboard under it the next years and it worked a lot better. but still not the best. In the USA they see something called landscape fabric that from what I see in works amazingly well. They will not send it to Canada, witch breaks my heart, Anyway you two are doing an amazing job I'm excited to watch your journey. Take care God bless your family and your homestead!

I own an acre of land unincorporated, that I would love to live on. I inherited it from my grandma who inherited it from her parents. I wish I had the money to develop it to live there. Don’t need anything fancy. Wish someone with the means would be willing to donate to get me started.

Hello Beautiful family I enjoyed the video your garden is going to be beautiful when you finish the rocks. Since it is so hot where you live put some hay straw around your plants for munch to help keep the moisture around your plants. This hold the water in the soil better. Take care.

You guys do realize that spraying that round up around your garden that’s gonna get into your flatbeds just by way of wind that’s not good for you. Specially having a small baby.
