@@brycedwhite1 This is what I'm now finding out. Shame that the power bi premium per user license won't let you utilize this. We're a smaller company and can't afford the fabric licenses.
All this stuff is really cool! On the side note, I was convinced I left my setting for Playback speed at some 125% 😅 But this just shows how much Carly loves what she does, absolutely great geek!
I would like to see what happens with Copilot when you have an ugly baby semantic model. Great demo but I assume that it requires an almost perfect model.
My question exactly! A lot of my stakeholders are hesitant with real life business cases because this requires a model that is built precisely to be handled by Copilot
How do we enable these features? What type of license is needed to avail all these features? Do we need a Premium Capacity license or Premium license? Do we need to get Copilot additional license by Microsoft which cost $30/month?
So, yeah, anytime I want to use the "Copilot" function in my PBI service environment, it essentially tells me that I need to have a Premium Capacity license. Premium Per User licenses don't count. (Yet?)
Thanks for the video guys, fantastic job! You could've checked on the quality of the video before posting. It is way below acceptable range even after changing to HD. Please take this as positive feedback.
"Feel free to play around with it. This is in public preview now". Am I right I won't be able to play with it until I have one of paid SKUs: F64 or higher, or P1 or higher? Is there a free option for testing this feature?
You can limit the cost by creating the F64 and pausing it whenever you're not using copilot (won't help with report consumers but at least for the report creation)
Q: is it possible to use Copilot chatbot within MS Teams. Idea is that We would like some key users ask insights without opening BI reports. Mostly executives. Thanks.
Q: When will msft open this to the $10 tier users so we can at least gauge the viability of this feature before plunking 5 grand per month. In a limited capacity, of course.
Q: So, does it mean in next 1-2 years industry will not need an expert dedicated Power BI developer? With the Copilot included now it will be anyother tool for the senior business persons like how world uses email applications in day to day work life?
Explain how? Human developer creates a fact table and star schema. Or multiple fact tables and a constellation schema. AI doesn't do it any differently, it just puts it together in a worse way for people that can't do it themselves.
Does Copilot technically look into synonyms as well in the data model to understand questions? Does maintaining synonyms improve the capability of Copilot to answer questions or does only the old Q&A visual use these synonyms?
Pretty sure you need a Fabric license and at least a F64 SKU (equivalent to a P1). So, it's pricey. However, you can turn it on in off in Fabric. So you could just turn it on for an hour here and there to play around with and then turn it back off. Wouldn't think that would be too pricey. But MAKE SURE that if you do this, you turn the Fabric capacity off when you're done playing around. Or you will not be happy at the end of the month.
@@K_dyub: we can turn that level on & off? So for example, $5k a month, would be around $167/day so about $7/hour? that's not bad to try something out. But good advice about turning it off when you're done. $5,000 would be a disappointing surprise!
(personal opinion) Copilot will help existing report creators. It'll remove the mundane. It'll provide inspiration. Just like calculators didn't get rid of accountants.
I have a question(from the perspective of a E-Vendor at Microsoft)! When I used extensions to work on my measures of PBI before copilot came out, it wasn’t able to parse through some data cause those tables were protected by MSFT, but if I use copilot on the same, will it be able to process the protected data from sources like Dim_MarketingLead table, or the ONESMBAS Cube, etc.? And is it ethical to do so?
Does the copilot work for reportS which is embedded in application with app owns data model.Details: Reports are present in fabric capacity with F64 Size
Great demo. Iam curious to know how the narrative visually actually summarise the page ( does it scrapes the data and visual on canvas) and how it provides citation like does it have the visual id refrence with it
Correct, we scrape the visual data that is already visible to the viewers of the report. We do not go to the data in the underlying semantic model, but perhaps we will in the future. Also correct on the citations. We keep the data tagged with the visuals they came from, so that the responses can help the user to understand where the summary is coming from.
Pulling from the model would be challenging if using RLS though right? I wouldn’t want the risk of exposing insights from data the user shouldn’t have access to.
@@daustonian9331 Also a lot of busineses won't be able to use it due to data soverignity issues - if they aren't comfortable with copilot processing the data in the US or France. This is a show stopper for us. Also looks like it is a CPU hog- if you have 20 copilot users on a P1 - it consumes about 10% of the capacities CPU resources. Fine if you proactively manage your tenant, but most companies don't have this much background CU to spare.

Also if you ask to create a page for example with only line graph visuals it creates a page but also with other type of visuals. So it doesnt feel like real AI or it is very basic. Also what microsoft never tells in this kind of video's are the costs on the capacity. Glady copilot doesnt cost a lot but you have to use the online report create tool that one eats easily a P1/F64 capacity. If you work with more than 5 people at the same time longer than a hour it is on 100%. For now you dont miss a thing if you dont have premium capacity.
Exactly. Anyone who thinks this is amazing has genuinely never held an analytical role. I see datapoints suggested to be “insights” and yet, they’re nothing of the sort. It is the classic case of techies not having a clue as to the actual purpose of creating BI. I assessed Copilot for our Board. For us, it would’ve been a £1m uplift on the monthly operating cost. Microsoft has done a poor job of explaining the ROI. If anyone thinks that ‘matter of fact’ bullet points is a “narrative”, they haven’t worked with senior stakeholders. True insight comes in the ability to explain WHY a data point has increased or decreased. In my company, I sit on a board. We expect the Leads to robustly explain performance and that requires them to understand and own the data. If any of them turned up with this rubbish, believe me - they would be fired.
