The international N Gauge Show 2021

  • This is for anyone that was unable to visit the show this year.
If you enjoyed this video then please have a look at my channel as I build my epic 40' x 8' N Gauge layout in my loft. This will be a very long build as research is key and I intend to build an exact copy of Bognor Regis terminal, along the way I will seek advice from my viewers during the progress of the build.
For instance looking at hay fields at the show I decided I would like that on my layout. Research showed that hay rolls did not exist in the 1960's English countryside, it was either small hay ricks or square bales and large hay stacks the size of a house with even a thatched roof on top to keep it dry.
Layout is based on Southern Rail steam and I intend to have very long rakes eventually having successfully pulled 24 coaches up my 1.5% inclines.
Layout is DCC, with a double track in a figure of eight giving me 200 feet in either direction. One branch line going to Bognor which will be on a upper level along with a branch line station joining the mainline. Construction will also include an Express dairy creamery modelled on the one behind where I lived in London.
This will be a labour of love and videos may be one a week or one every 3 months depending on what gets done. Having retired in March 2020 having reached the age of 66 years I have all the time in the world, just dont tell her who must be obeyed.
    Chris.

Reasons for going to a show 1) trade stand bargains. 2) brilliant layouts. 3) cake. In that order. Nguage traders are few and far between, I guess traders have to pay up front for a spot, maybe some other method of payment should be found at the moment and maybe traders should consider smaller more focused stands. Thanks for the video it really conveyed the shows atmosphere and what we’ve been missing.

Hi Paul - Yes it was a great show and I enjoyed myself immensely being there.
I got some fantastic bargains on coach purchases direct from Dapol.
      Layouts were fantastic.
      Damn I missed the cake.
There was an awful lot to see and it was quite nice walking around this time bearing in mind half the traders either failed to turn up or cancelled due to Covid.
I am quite sure it will be back to normal this year Paul.
Really glad you enjoyed it, I tried to put over the atmosphere and show you how good it was.

Great to have a dedicated N scale show too… Stay safe and well and hopefully you can use some of the inspiration gained in the loft at home…. All the best mate, Chris

This pandemic has taken a toll on lots of events, lets hope next year is better, fingers crossed.

Great job with the filming Chris, really enjoyed this video, I have never been to Tings but may try to make the effort next year. You certainly caught some nice detail on the layouts which is always good for inspiration. Seeing as though Warley is out this year, I think my first exhibition will be Glasgow in Feb. All the best Tony.

Hi Chris. Firstly thanks for a great tour, beautifully filmed. I did go a couple of ttimes (mainly to buy stuff) but it is one show I have never exhibited at as they refused to have me even though at the time I owned one of the great exhibition layouts. Sadliy as you know, now I am housebound I shall probably never go again. Some of the layouts I thought quite excellent but others obviously called in at the last minute to fill the vast empty spaces.
It seemed quite weird to me at the show was often described as a trade show with layouts
    Glad you had fun.
    Cheers, Bob

Hi Bob - glad you enjoyed the video. I have heard from a lot of really good exhibitors that TINGS can be really funny about exhibitors. Strange as it is all about income and drawing the punters in, hey ho.
Yeah not much trade there sadly or new people showing off their inventions or the like. That's what I enjoy like ballast spreaders.
Will still go next year, been twice now and had a blast at both.

Hi Chris. Nice video - greatly enabled by the smaller number of visitors, trade stands and club layouts (thanks, Covid!). I went on the Saturday (my first ever visit to TINGS) and there were probably twice as many visitors. I too arrived just after opening at 10am; there was a bit of a queue, but it progessed quite quickly. Visiting on Sunday was a double-edged sword; less people, but perhaps many of the bargains were gone on the Saturday. I too managed to grab a few bargains. I was a little disappointed with the catering, just a little van selling drinks and cakes. Most people brought a packed lunch - well, you live and learn.

    • @Chris-BognorRegis
      @Chris-BognorRegis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Paul - Apologies, I should have said in my earlier videos to bring a packed lunch and flask. I did the last time thank goodness.
Not sure if you saw my video on here from the visit in 2019, that was my first time. Easily twice the number of displays and trade stands. Lots of brilliant items for sale along with a lot on my list that sadly was not there this weekend.
I purchased a load of Southern rail carriages from the Dapol stand, They normally sell for £29.95 and they were selling them for £22 at the show. As I purchased quite a few at that bargain price they reduced it to £18.75, they were brilliant and yes I love Dapol.
I guarantee next year if things return to normal, or what we call normal now, that the show will be back to its old self and if you thought this was good, next year will blow your mind. It did with me.
Hopefully see you next year and to be honest I think I will go on a Sunday again.
      Regards Chris

@@Chris-BognorRegis Hi Chris. I cannot remember if I saw your previous video on TINGS (old age you know), but it wasn't too big a deal - I called in at a pub fairly close to the Event Centre and managed to get a bite to eat. I got a few bargains too: a rake of Dapol coaches (boxed Maunsell High Window Lined Olive Green 6-coach set but from a different trade stand) - priced at £158.50, but I got them for £140. I also got a rake of 5 maroon coaches (used - from Rails of Sheffield) for £59.50, so £11.90 per coach. Lastly, but not least, I got a rake of 5 GWR Yellow & Brown coaches for £55 - £11 each instead of £12.50 plus a Union Mills (?) LNER D20/1 Wordsell w 4-4-0 at £70 - £10 off. I still would go on a Saturday so as not to miss too many bargains (I did a quick tour of trade stands and layouts in about an hour and then a slower tour of about 90mins when I could get a closer look at the trade stands. My preference is for steam locos and many trade stands and layouts were modern image. Would love to see you at TINGS next year if not for the Saturday/Sunday thing.

I will definitely be going next year.

Hi Chris - as you know I was there on Saturday - took around 25 minutes for the queue to get into the hall. I'd say it was busy but not so much as to stop you getting to see the layouts without having to manoeuvre yourself to get a viewing space. Two most popular stands seemed to be Rails of Sheffield and Cheltenham Model centre. Bit dissappointed in Rails as nearly 90% of the stock they brought was second hand. Looked as though they were using the show to have a clear out of their N gauge seconds. Picked up the "flying banana" HST which is runing in as I type this. Sorry we couldn't have met at the show - maybe one day we'll meet ! Cheers Euan

    • @Chris-BognorRegis
      @Chris-BognorRegis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Euan - I thought the same about Rails of Sheffield but I was after basic things like underlay, ballast, grass applicator etc and non had any on show.
But I did purchase four rakes of carriages from Dapol, all on my card and I dont care LOL.
Next years show I bet will be awesome so will meet you there.

Hi Henri - It is called The International N Gauge Show or TINGS for short.
It depicts model railways in N Gauge only and can show layouts depicting the world. For instance there was American and a Japanese layout on show, not to mention others.
The show is at the Warwickshire Event Centre, The Fosse, Fosse Way, Radford Semele, Royal Leamington Spa, Leamington Spa, England. CV31 1XN.
The next show will be on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September 2022.

    • @Chris-BognorRegis
      @Chris-BognorRegis  ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Ian - There are in fact two N Gauge magazines out that I am aware of and I get them both.
If you join the N Gauge Society which is not cheap I hasten to add but they do some wonderful rolling stock that you just cannot get anywhere else, they send you a Bi-Monthly magazine called N Gauge Journal, its a small booklet but very thick and packed with information including shows.
The other N Gauge Magazine I get on subscription is NOW or N Gauge Now. Annual subscription for four magazines at £24.60.
I dont know where you live Ian but I tend to go to only two shows a year otherwise it gets far too expensive.
I attend TINGS (The International N Gauge Show) www.meridienneexhibitions.co.uk/events/the-international-n-gauge-show
This is over the weekend of the 9th and 10th September 2023.
I also attend The London Festival of Railway Modelling. www.world-of-railways.co.uk/information/the-london-festival-of-railway-modelling-general-information
This is over the weekend of 18th and 19th March 2023 and I will be attending on the Sunday 19th.
Personally I think this show is better than Warley, it is also nearer and I can do it in one day, so I save £400. No hotel, less fuel, cheaper to get in and free parking.
I went to Warley end of last year and I found that I could do it easily in one day. I also found there were more exhibitions at Ally Pally and far bigger than Warley, but that is just my personal opinion.
      I hope this helps Ian.

Hi Gary - Bless you for that kind offer but I am good thankyou. Although there are loads of jobs to do they are fairly easy jobs that are no problem. The two big jobs are stopped purely due to lack of funds.
Likewise with the loft which I have yet to fully insulate. Just dont have the money as yet. I have built about two thirds of the baseboards but that still means there is a lot more to complete and I will do that over the next year when funds become available. I have made a recent purchase of steam loco along with rolling stock which doesn't help LOL.
Its a labour of love and will get completed eventually.
