That can be or can become agoraphobia (fear of leaving your home.) I have this, doctor diagnosed. I'm way better now but it was much worse for me for several years. It started for me when I stopped working outside my home years ago due to a chronic physical illness. For me, the more I stayed home and never left, the worse it got. I'm no expert, but I highly recommend leaving your apartment as often as you possibly can, even if you just step outside your building to breathe some fresh air for 5 or 10 minutes each day. Ideally, go out for a little walk most days, or to do a simple errand. Just do something outside of your apartment. The longer you're out and the further away you venture, the more it will help but taking baby steps is absolutely ok too! And if there are days you just can't, that's also OK, give yourself that grace. If you're able to push yourself just a little bit, just do it. Idk if this is at all helpful, but this is what I wish someone had told me before my agoraphobia got as bad as it did.
The green onions were definitely the best deal I got all day 😂😭 Wow, I am aware of agoraphobia but I hadn't even thought to possibly connect that to my situation. I'm glad you did, though, because I can definitely see the beginning stages of that in myself right now. I definitely think that this started with the pandemic and being kind of forced to stay inside, and just continued post-grad and after moving here because it feels like such a hassle to get ready to leave the house - feeling like I need to be wearing something cute & putting myself together which takes longer than it should. I feel like most times it's simply just easier to stay home, but I totally see now the negative effects that that is having on me. Thank you so much for this, it was VERY helpful & I will definitely try to leave every day for something, no matter how small. I really appreciate this!
Good rule of thumb: more indie looking, typically higher the price. Try thrifting with FB marketplace, estate sales, and garage sales!! So many good deals there

‘You’re a real one.’ I love what you said about “Not buying a ton of stuff just for the vlog.” Why buy what you won’t wear ya’ know? I grew up thrifting and still love it! The challenge/hunt of finding that thing that sticks out to you is priceless. Buying quality pieces is more important, and something I find easier while thrifting. Expensive pieces don’t have to be fully priced ;)

Hej Hanna, I want to say thank you because you made me remain my self that I completely do not think about fashion anymore and instead of choosing outfits I am just grabbing whatever from the closest... I am much older but I see so much of my self in you. I used to be so interested in fashion and clothing. After I became mother I completely pushed this side of me into the corner. You made me feel again like I want to look nice and build my outfits. A big 💓 for this. Today finally I decided to wear a new sweater that I purchased some time ago, and I was embarrassed to wear it because I got used to wear the same clothes over and over again. I don't know what to say more but you give me a lot of positive energy. 🤗🌺🌷
You could spend an entire day trip exploring each Beacon's Closet store! Every time I've visited the city I've spent hours in their Manhattan and original Brooklyn store (which is massive!), but it's worth keeping in mind that they're more like a consignment store selling second hand designer so it can be pricey. However, I've found a Comme Des Garcon coat in there for $25 so you just have to be dedicated to the search! 😉
I live in Greenpoint! I hope you enjoyed your visit but you’re 10000% right about the prices. Thrifting is supposed to be about finding used clothes for a discounted price but unfortunately most stores up the price like crazy. I guess that’s what you can expect when rent prices are over 3.5k / month in GP/willyB. I know a lady here who literally buys clothes from a regular big brand company, takes the label off, cuts them up a bit, and resells it as “vintage”… good thing you only got a few items, save your money!!

I have to say you did GREAT! I think my favorite piece was that crop top. But all the pieces will be great for the spring and I think as we get closer to the warmer weather, you’ll start to see more things that are reasonably priced. I could not stop laughing at the green onions because I’ve done that since I work with horses, we see many people selling produce so I’ll randomly buy it as I support local farmers. OMG! Charley was making me LOL-my late cat Bandit did the EXACT same thing-he would get his head stuck in those handles--I ended up always tearing them off so he could just play with the cord part of the bag that made the handle. His sister, she loved to get right into those cloth bags like Charley and purr and she was such a shopper kitty! She loved seeing what I brought home. My current girl is curious, but is more excited to see me.

As a nyc native, a lot of “thrift” stores are consignment and curated stores where they sell vintage stuff and not actually anything at “thrift” prices. Places like Beacons Closet, Crossroads, Buffalo Exchange etc. are all consignment. Suggestions would be: L Train Vintage, Goodwill, Salvation Army

L Train Vintage in Gowanus near Park Slope is great, if you wanted to make a trip out there! It’s huge and they have more thrifty prices than those types of consignment shops in the video. Park Slope is also just a really pretty area to walk around. There’s definitely cheap(er) thrifting to be found in NYC thankfully! I got a Calvin Klein button up for $6 and two pairs of trousers for $8 at L Train

As much as I miss New York, I do not miss the scarcity of affordable produce and eye gauging thrifting. In Southern California it’s like a thrifting paradise. I watched a video showing how NYC thrift store owners travel TO Pennsylvania to get items for their NYC shops. As much as I miss New York, I do not miss the scarcity of affordable produce and eye gauging thrifting. In Southern California it’s like a thrifting paradise. I have to literally restrain myself from thrifting.
