    I really like the highball cocktails and this is another brilliant video Steve, I recently made a couple one called Coco Cooler 50ml coconut rum/ Malibu 5ml lime juice 1 dash angostura bitters top with coke, the other one is a Mango Mamma 45ml Tequila 15ml lime juice 15ml agave syrup top with the new Tango Mango soda nice refreshing on a summers day.

    I’m definitely going to try the dark and stormy variations. I never tried rum with the Sicillian lemonade and will try that as well. I agree that most of the time it’s not worth breaking out all the hardware and ingredients. These are simple and perfect for summertime. Cheers!

    The simple highball I find myself going back to most often is 1.5-2 oz apple brandy and a few dashes of Ango topped with ginger ale. Especially delicious during the fall months. I'll have to explore more rum ones since I usually prefer rum in a full-on cocktail.

      Yeah, this is just a Mule 👍️ Kinda liek the Dark & Stormy is just a Mule really. But they are great easy drinks.

    Think I voted on my favourite way to drink rum (on your poll) and I selected cocktails. Mainly for the reason I am not aware of EVERY cocktail like I had never heard of the nui nui until you introduced it to me. But I had to select one. Which is not to say I don't love neat rum or a highball. But as you say they are simple and every one can make a simple highball. Ok you have a few riffs which are great to try.(So keep it up) But it's cocktails that I would say most people need some help/direction riffs etc. So I think there is room for all ways to drink rum. Reviews on neat rums highballs and cocktails. All good Steve hit us with everything involving rum☺

    In this summer heat I have taken to making rum spritzers with carbonated water (homemade or canned with or without essence), fresh juices and rum. For a standard octane spritzer I like to use Plantation 3-year or Original Dark (depending on the juice or juice blend). For lower octane it sounds weird, but I like to use a small amount of navy strength (Wray & Nephew, Smith & Cross or OFTD) - a little bit keeps it relatively low octane but they are potent enough to make sure the notes of the rum still come through.

    Brilliant inspirational video. Its all too easy just to revert to the usual rum and coke if you want a tasty drink but cant be fussed to go all 1988 Tom Cruise on an evening. Love the simple use of other 3/4 ingredients to actually 'Create' something you could hand out to friends at the summer BBQ and still look like a bit of a bar god. Definitely saved this video for later use - Cheers Steve!

    13:20 tried the lemonade highballs. Brilliant. The pineapple was my partner's favourite.
    Something right up your alley are all the ways Jasper's Secret Mix can be used to make ridiculously easy rum cocktails, highballs and punches. Anders Erickson made a video about the mix and Jasper's Punch recently and it's such a versatile mixer and pretty easy to store and use.
    He made the Jasper's Rum Punch (2 ingredient drink, equal parts Wray & Nephew and the mix swizzled with crushed ice in a Collins glass) and the Bay Roc Special which iirc is shaken, served up.
    But, there's also Jasper's Jamaican Planter's Punch, which is basically the same but with a Jamaican dark rum (Coruba, but I bet Myers would work) and tropical fruit garnish or simply mint.
    I saw people say it's a homemade falernum. The Angostura is used as a shortcut for all the spices! And you know what, it really works as for a Corn n' Oil with crushed iced, which is probably the easiest drink to make. And, this is probably the easiest, cheapest and fastest homemade falernum I've ever made! I bet it would also work in one of your highballs with cola, ginger beer or lemonade. I bet you could do a whole video experimenting with this mix.

    I l9ve the rum runner, but you're right. It's not the first cocktail I think of and so it's been a while since having one.
    Since you've suggested substituting the 151,
    I'm now thinking of trying a 50/ 50 split of a funkier Jamaican and an unaged agricole rhum.

    My go to Highball Rum Cocktails are 1) Maladew, but made with keto coconut rum that I make myself, and Mtn Dew Zero and 2) A Pineapple Coconut soda with Agricole Rum. I show these in some videos on my Ask Allen About Low Carb Cocktails channel. I make these two quite often because the are easy and they are zero carb (which I do because I am Diabetic). People not concerned about low carbs can make these with sugary sodas and rums, and they taste about the same.

    The Cherry Cola and Honey & Stormy would be my picks. I also think the orange would work with both the ginger and cola, and the pineapple would work in the ginger. My go to at home is 60mls Plantation OD, 60ml pineapple nectar with either ginger ale or ginger beer.

    Great video - I just made your ginger beer & tempus fugit crème de cacao (with Probitas rum - I think that’s Veritas in the UK) . . . and WOW !!!! That came together in seconds and was absolutely delicious! If you made that one up, you should come up with a cool name, spread the word - and take credit where credit is due! Easily a new entry into my top 10!

    I have been making my latest couple of rum & cokes with small frozen pineapple cubes and some regular ice cubes. In the beginning it's just rum & coke but the further you get the more the dilution starts to kick in and you get a pineapple finish. Next time I have some pineapple juice I will make small pineapple juice cubes. Small because I actually want them to melt.

      I was going for more Rum & Ginger Beer. And the whole ethos of not needing to Shake. I mean It's like calling the Cuba Libre a Cocktail. It kinda is, but kinda isn't. Its just a Highball. Same as the Dark & Stormy. Many many many people at home never bother with Lime & Bitters...it's just Rum & Ginger Beer 👍️

    Missed the poll, but I would have answered cocktails. But, I gravitate towards Daiquiri (3 ingredients), Shrunken Skull (4 ingredients if you count 2 rums as 1 ingredient each), Port Light (4 ingredients), or Dark and Stormy (3 ingredients). The most complicated cocktails I will regularly make are a Mai Tai or Saturn with 5 ingredients. I like my simple Tiki.

    a Rumpari is pretty good
    In a rocks glass, fill with ice,
    1oz Wray & Nephew Overproof
    1oz Campari
    splash of grapefruit soda (eg. Ting)
    supposedly, you can substitute orange juice for the grapefruit soda, but I've never tried it

    • @StevetheBarmanUK
      @StevetheBarmanUK  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So, this is an interesting concept! Not overly covinced for my own personal palate the ratios work, 30ml Campari could be a bit heavy. BUT, I really like the idea of the simplicity! 👏

    • @flyingteeshirts
      @flyingteeshirts 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@StevetheBarmanUK i think that's why the splash of soda is there-to thin-out the Campari. For that purpose, any light citrusy soda could probably be used, not just grapefruit. I've never tried it with orange juice because I don't often have it and when it's in a drink, it often overpowers everything else. The viscosity could probably be fixed by fixing the ratios, so it could be a 2 ingredient drink. Even simpler!

    • @StevetheBarmanUK
      @StevetheBarmanUK  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      99% of Ginger Beers of the shelf have sweeteners. In fact i'd struggle to think of brands that don't..on a worldwide market. So each to make your own though. Either juice & fresh Ginger and just add Soda. Or grab a bottle of Monin Ginger Concentrate (it's new and NOT a Syrup) and mix with Soda.

      When I was a kid in the UK (decades and decades and decades ago...) Ginger Beer was in no way as sweet as it is now, no matter the brand. It almost burned when you drank one and the aroma also tweaked your nose. I miss that in today's world.
