Oops! Although the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club is in Hamilton, Bermuda - it's been brought to my attention the postcard shown is the Hamilton Yacht Club in Hamilton, Ontario. I don't get to many yacht clubs. Thanks for the catch!
Keep up the balancing tips. I love the fact that you nerd out and tell us the intricacies of crafting cocktails! For those of us at home. Wannabe bartenders this is very helpful! I've literally grown damn near an entire bar since I started watching your channels, and the more information the better!
Couldn’t agree more! People joke when I mix them a drink and they’re like, so what’s the history on this drink. Usually I have an answer because of Anders!
I like the recipes, but I can find recipes anywhere. What I like is the theory behind why things taste the way they do, how to tweak and improvise and substitute. And the history buts are fun, too. Don't feel like you have to skimp on the "why"!
At 6:45 you start diving in deeper on balancing. I think it would be great if you added a section diving in deeper on balancing or alternative spirits. It would help me learn even more from these great videos.
Gotta love when Anders posts on a Friday evening and it's a drink that I have all the ingredients for on hand. Good excuse to use my new Nick & Nora glasses!
Made this a few times and loved it. And you can call rum from Barbados "Barbadian" rum, but more commonly it is referred to as "Bajan" rum, as are the inhabitants of Barbados as well.
I was looking for this comment so I didn't leave a redundant one, but I'll also add that "Bajan" is an abbreviation of "Barbadian," pronounced "Barbajan."
No no no no no no no! Dude, brother, I can get recipes anywhere. Why they work, how to tweak them, interesting variations (and a pleasant and witty manner) are what bring me here.
No, those deep dives into how to balance drinks is what I want more of! Please, please elaborate whenever possible. Maybe have one balancing tip per recipe video?
At first I was going to skip through the ad because I don't enjoy wine. But then I was like "No, this is Anders and I love Anders' videos and I want him to keep getting paid". So I rewound and grabbed a glass of water while it was playing. This just goes to say: I hope you can keep bringing us lovely content for a long time
Finally got my hands on your bar mat (third try), It's fantastic, thick enough to be effective, thin enough to be flexible enough to clean, and the pattern bar glass pattern is perfect.
I’m a rum guy, and this one is right up my alley. I happen to be drinking a Barbados rum straight right now, after having watched my team blow a three run lead in the 8th inning, but will definitely give this one a go tomorrow.
On the contrary, the brief talk about balancing was my favorite part! I literally wrote notes. More of that, please. Also the tip on looking for a more flavorful curacao seems on point; I like the idea behind the RBYC but it always feels a bit flat when I make it. There's a local spiced orange liqueur here in Wisconsin that I'll try in one tonight.
I appreciate the extra liqueur vs syrup ratio info. The “why” behind it helps me learn the recipe more than just memorizing numbers, and it gives a good base of knowledge for times when I just kind of wing it. 😆
I went to find the ingredients for this drink as it sounds amazing and discovered that they are all linked at your website for easy purchase! It made procuring the materials a breeze.
I think you should totally go more into detail about the history of the cocktails you’re making! As a history nerd, it’s super cool to know the background because it makes the art of bartending more meaningful. Keep it up! 😁
Okay, but I would actually love a video specifically on the nerdy stuff like balancing cocktails and rules-of-thumb type things when making/adjusting cocktail recipes. That’s a big reason why I follow your page because you touch on it while making drinks. I love the idea of taking a base formula of a classic cocktail and switching things out which ends up being a whole new cocktail. Bring on the nerd.
Made one this evening ... wasn't sure my Demerara rum at the back of the cupboard would see the light of day ever again.. but glad to say it now has some use
Just made this. My rum selection is all over the place, so I split base Hamilton Demerara and eldorado 15. Gonna try it again with Hamilton and Ray and Nephew navy strength. I'm a huge fan of tiki cocktails and this is a very nice cocktail
A former employer of mine had a Willamette Paper mill in Hawesville, KY, as a major customer. Whenever anyone mispronounced the name, the standard reply was "It's Will AM it, damn it!"
Cool video about a cocktail I've never tried and now want to. My understanding is that things/people from Barbados (like Falernum) are Barbadian or Bajan, but I'm happy to be corrected,.
Good morning, Anders! I know this is totally random, but the Siduri wine named Rosella’s Vineyard is my mother’s name. It was a made up name in my family so I thought it was unique. Guess not! Now I need to find this wine in her memory💗✨
Is it maybe like Don the Beachcomber is Tesla and Trader Vic is Thomas Edison? This is the first drink I tried to make that is part of the proper tiki canon. Thank you for everything Anders!
Anders, I just got back from visiting Barbados and the word you were looking for instead of "Barbadian" is Bajan (pronounced "Bay-jen" sounds just like Cajun). Cheers!
Speaking of Daquiris, I was having a drink at the bar with a medical friend of mine, and a guy walks in and orders, "Rum with lime and sugar and a hickory nut." My buddy says, " What the devil is that," so I said, "it's a hickory daiquiri, Doc."
It was pretty good, but I'd already had 2 mai tais before this. So my taste buds had been a little beaten into submission. I'll have to make this again to truly see if this is a new drink for the rotation.
Hi Anders, this looks great and I'm going to make it this weekend! Side note, I googled the Yacht Club because there's a chance I'll get to go to Bermuda soon and I wanted to see if the club had the drink on their menu. I hate to tell you this, but the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club pictured in the video is not in Bermuda; it's in Hamilton, Ontario. 😂 Oops! Regardless, I'm looking forward to giving this cocktail a try. Cheers! p.s.: the club in Bermuda doesn't have their cocktail list online but I'll let you know if they still serve it.
@@AndersErickson I picked up some Falernum today, the only ingredient I didn't already have. This is a great cocktail! As always, my thanks for your creativity and awesomeness!
Haven't had any issues storing it on the shelf. Best to keep an eye on it though - Taylor's Velvet Falernum is lower in proof so storing it in the fridge isn't a bad idea
Hey Anders, drink looks good but my comment isn't actually about that. I made myself a Black Manhattan earlier using Knob Creek Rye and Amaro di Angostura and it seems to me that the Black Manhattan, though using the normal ratio of a regular Manhattan, acts as a presentation of the amaro more than a blend of flavors with the rye. To me, it also had a finish similar to a Brandy Alexander which I think is kind of odd, but that is what came to mind. Just curious if you would agree that the Black Manhattan makes the amaro the star and pushes the rye to a supporting role? It could also just be that the Amaro di Angostura is that strong of a flavor.
Depending on your build, I can see the amaro being the star. Most amari are stronger in flavor than your average sweet vermouth. Of course there's nothing stopping you from adjusting ratios to accent the rye. Have yet to try it with Amaro di Angostura - but now I'm curious. Cheers

Same!
Agreed! I'd love more insight like this
Couldn’t agree more! People joke when I mix them a drink and they’re like, so what’s the history on this drink. Usually I have an answer because of Anders!
Agree 100% I will usually pull out my notebook and write those ideas down for my own recipes.
Same!
Please don’t stop with the education on the science of cocktails, not just here for a recipe. Love learning the why and all the details and facts 😁
I like the recipes, but I can find recipes anywhere. What I like is the theory behind why things taste the way they do, how to tweak and improvise and substitute. And the history buts are fun, too. Don't feel like you have to skimp on the "why"!

I just heard this bit in the video and was going to comment the same,
Yep, totally agree. We aren’t here just for recipes. Love the reasoning and explanation!
Agreed - I appreciate your shared logic around balancing.
I for one don't just want the recipe! Those rules of thumb and guidelines and thought processes are gold.
Gotta love when Anders posts on a Friday evening and it's a drink that I have all the ingredients for on hand. Good excuse to use my new Nick & Nora glasses!
Happy weekend!

“Rum, more rum” the best way to start any recipe
Agreed
Loving the deep dive details!!
Stuff from Barbados (including people) are called Bajan (Bay-Jun). I assume that goes for Rum as well...
I was looking for this comment so I didn't leave a redundant one, but I'll also add that "Bajan" is an abbreviation of "Barbadian," pronounced "Barbajan."

Thx for the deeper dive on syrup vs. Liqeur balancing 😊👌
hats off to the early birds.
It’s happy hour here in Ohio
Anders, I just want you to know I think you're great. Thanks for putting this channel together for us all!
Thank you. You're pretty incredible yourself
Another Friday, another great episode from Anders Erickson
Love getting the science/logic behind the recipe. It helps me know what/how to adjust and why. More please! :)
No, those deep dives into how to balance drinks is what I want more of! Please, please elaborate whenever possible. Maybe have one balancing tip per recipe video?
The info converted during the sassy zoom in was the kind of knowledge I am here for. I also love the sas

Appreciate the patience. Happy you're liking the bar mat!
I love this videos with a lot of information, history and details about the liquors and how to mix them. ❤
I actually appreciated your explanation of balancing citrus with liqueurs versus syrups, so thank you very much for that.
As a Bermudian, you did vell. Yes, vell! It's a trademarked Bermudian word 😊

I'm happy you're here. Cheers

Never too old to start. Drink up 🫡
@@marmolejo99 I do occasionally. But the stuff I drink would probably make you guys crack up on this channel. My lady definitely does..😂
Captain's hat is on! Where are we heading? EDIT: Anything that needs 'more rum' as second ingredient is very promising!

Great film, Anders. Loved hearing the sweet/sour balance way to think. Liqueur vs syrup ratio. A teaching moment!

Thanks for being a cocktail nerd I watch every new video you make. You should try making a Lorikeet next video I know you would love that drink!
Always excited when Anders makes a new video

Made one just now. Wow, what a tasty cocktail. Thanks for posting this one.
This is a great drink. I discovered it years ago at a diner, of all places, and have been making them (after I found Falernum) ever since.
Rum cocktails are my favorite, here where I live gets stupidly hot in the summer!
Excellent job pronouncing Willamette!
A former employer of mine had a Willamette Paper mill in Hawesville, KY, as a major customer. Whenever anyone mispronounced the name, the standard reply was "It's Will AM it, damn it!"
Willamette River, in Oregon!
I discovered this drink at the beginning of summer. Great drink.
Received our coasters this week! They're fabulous!
Can't wait to give this a go! Thanks for the history and the imbibe vibes
Got to love a rum cocktail 🎉
Example of a perfect film
Love Your channel Anders and your dog even more! ❤

great humor and tips; cant wait to make the sips
Thanks Anders - trying this on Sunday - will use El Dorado 5 and Mount Gay (sticking with the Guyana and Barbados theme)... thx!
Now I have to go buy a bottle of Falernum, thanks! 😁

This is the first drink I tried to make that is part of the proper tiki canon. Thank you for everything Anders!
Seems like a fair comparison. Cheers
No, no, no. Don was Steve Jobs and Vic was Bill Gates. Bill just stole the ideas and made even more money on them.
Talk more about balancing and ratios! I'd love a whole video about it
Anders, I just got back from visiting Barbados and the word you were looking for instead of "Barbadian" is Bajan (pronounced "Bay-jen" sounds just like Cajun). Cheers!
Anders, I'm a lazy cocktail maker but this sounds amazing.
You can say Barbadian or Bajan!
As a fan of the nuclear daiquiri, I absolutely need to give this one a try!
This looks tasty!
Rum and rum, doesn’t get any better
we want to learn how to balance cocktail it is importent to us plese make a video about it
Never change! If I just wanted the recipe, I wouldn’t watch your videos.
Not a big rum fan but this sounds lovely!! Peated scotch - yes!!! Cheers!!

You had my attention at "rum," but you garnered my *interest* at "more rum."
Great vid! Where'd you get the shirt tho? Its excellent!
Is it possible to find you around Chicago bars nowadays? Can you suggest one or two that I can’t miss while visiting?
I'm in Canada. Is that Marie Brizard what you'd call a dry Curaçao?
I made this cocktail with another recipe a while back and hated it. I will try your recipe and give it another chance.
More rum recepies please

That country song from 2009? Redneck Yacht Club? There Needs to be a riff on this drink with that name!

Barbadian. Or as we say in the Caribbean, Bajan.
Apparently, the locals user 'Bajan' to refer to things from Barbados.
