I think the writers saw the Senator's press conference as a way to quickly move the storyline along. They need to get Angela out of the marriage so that she'd end up with Dwight. So they did it in dramatic fashion where the public humiliation would ensure staying in the marriage wasn't viable. They also made the Senator look like such a jerk that we cheer for Angela despite her cheating on him. This was also the era of (or maybe the end of it) where the "good wife" stood by her fallen politician husband. In fact there was a whole show on at the time ("The Good Wife").
This is the episode I always think of that best represents how low the show sinks in the later seasons. *Dwight tranquilizes Stanley, wraps him in bubble wrap, and rolls him down the stairs.* Tell me that's the same show with small but genuinely emotional stakes from the early seasons. It's so dumb lol, and I'm surprised so many people here seem to like it
I stand by what I previously said that the senator had Angela on stage with him so folks would think she supported him in coming out. It was all to maintain his facade as a happy family man
Right I know this is completely unrelated BUT imagine if Stanley was related to Donna from parks and rec via joe’s family AND THEY BOTH REALISED THEY KNEW ANN PERKINS OR KAREN FILLIPELLI.. BOOM TOGETHER THEYD INVESITIGATE IT AND GET BOTH THE OFFICE & PARKS AND REC CAST AS A MINI REUNION THING. would be a sick spinoff idea
Descending stairs isn't "letting gravity do most of the work", by the way. It's really hard on knees and quads. Gravity only makes descent effortless when you fall down something, not descend it with your legs.
It's really not that hard if you use the right technique. Most people just throw their body around as if it's made of diamond. Move with intent and the problem repents.
@@HakuYuki001 You misunderstand my comment. I was referring to @Mulverine's snarky observation that it's not reasonable to complain about the energy output requirements of walking down some stairs, as if it took no energy because gravity was doing the work. That is not how walking down stairs works...quads, glutes, back, and knees all do a signifcant amount of work. Try descending a mountain after summitting and see how easy it is because gravity. You will be sorely (pun) disappointed.
@@dingdongism Again, it is actually easy if you use the right technique and walk with intent. Just because a variety of muscles are being used doesn't automatically make it hard unless you think all movement is hard.
@@HakuYuki001 Walking down the stairs might in fact be easy for many. The fact that it is going in the direction of the pull of gravity is not one of the things that make it easy. It ignores how muscles are used in the act of prevention of turning your descent into a fall. That's what I'm saying, and that's what you're missing when you're trying to explain to me how to go down stairs.
I’m crazy early to this vid. Just wanted to say that I love the content and I’m enjoying every second of these vids. Kinda glad I just found out about it so I get to try to catch up before your finish(that’s what she said) ✌️
What I never understood about these later episodes, if the documentary is completed, who's filming them now? I like to think Michael put hidden cameras all over, so he could occasionally stream them from Colorado.
One of the best episodes in Season 9 - not a massively high bar, granted, but still. On rewatch I wonder whether I partly like it because I know we're on the landing path for the last four episodes which are great - Paper Airplane perhaps less so but I have very warm feelings towards it because of the Jim-Pam reconciliation. The dropping Stanley down the stairs bit is laugh out loud funny.
I think Stairmageddon has a much simpler context....in 2011-2012 the 405 freeway in Los Angeles area was shutdown for periods of time, and that was referred to as Carmageddon.
It's interesting how closely you and The Office Ladies just happen to be in terms of where you are in the series currently. They're almost done with the series, too. 😢
This as a higher point is sad. Dwight's subplot is entertaining but it's "jump the shark" en carnate (besides the whole every character would go to jail the day the doc premieres, nobody would insure this place.ever. or even make eye contact with these people). Toby and Nellie have some of their best material in awhile and Creed steals several scenes. Angela's comeuppance isn't delicious knowing how the show will try to make me feel sorry for her being treated the way she treated multiple characters for years, Kevin is cartoon dumb and Andy is still awful and not in a funny way. If the show hadn't wore my patience out by this point, I'd probably forgive this but yeah. Better but not particularly good.
Stanley storyline is fine. But the Angela stuff is so shoe-horned to get us the DwAngela marriage in the finale after the Farm wasn't picked up. Bad writing all around. None of it makes any sense.
Honestly, this episode is where Pam loses me. She brings up something from four years ago that she did not get upset about back then. And then she basically plants her foot in the ground and says that even if Athlead is successful, she still will not move.
The business being successful was never the issue for her. She made it clear that she already had an established life where she was at. Jim was the only one who wanted to move and acting all entitled saying that if he didn't make the decisions then she would just be with Roy. He is more attracted to his dream job than to his family.
I see your point, but I would offer a different perspective. When Jim bought the house from his parents, I'm guessing she initially saw it as a loving gesture. And she may have also been willing to overlook the unilateral decision-making because they still weren't married. But now she sees that he's made yet another major decision without her input while now being married.
Where does it say that the senator is a republican? Are you just assuming that? I’d always assumed he came out as gay for the same reason so many other politicians try to appease the LGBT crowd. He’s a politician, and he wants their votes
He came out because he was forced to. This is covered in the episode when he is notified about how much info the documentary has. But seriously though, holy f* shit have you even watched the show. It is directly and indirectly shown that he his a republican many times. And by the way, coming out to please the LGBT crowd? What an absurd reason. If you were to appease such a crowd then why didn't he run on being gay.
Wow, almost to the end of this whole journey. It’s gonna feel weird having an office field guide on the finale! End of an era!
The little wave between Hank and Dwight is the cherry on top during this episode.

Fun fact: Luke (Michael’s nephew) appears briefly appears in the background in the Finale when everyone is in the warehouse.
Cool dude spoilers
"maybe we're just low on good vibes" I felt that, take care man

Sharp one ain't cha...
Jenna Fischer actually has a whole part in her acting book about how to spot shady talent agents and Roseanne’s character is 100% it!
"The cheerleader's father": I was confused for about half a second. Then I laughed. Save The Office, save the world!
One of the few season 9 episodes I watched more than once

best small detail was meridith squeezing the remaining tranquilizer into her mug
Lets go a new Mulverine episode!
I love this episode so much, one of my all time favorite episodes of the show honestly

I think they say in the finale that whatever isn’t in the documentary is going to be bonus footage for the DVD.
@@TheAndrewJohnBennett I missed that part, it always bugged me. Thanks!
Dang...what will I do without you???

I really enjoy this episode.

I think the state senator's press conference was a goof on the Jim McGreevey press conference from about a decade prior to the episode airing.
Whoo hoo! I made it into the episode!
11:33 Oh hey, I made the video
NEW MULVERINE DROPPED
Once you're done with the series, would you do a parks and recreation field guide? I would definitely enjoy that
Dwight Knight Rises!
BEST deeper meaning yet! One of the worst episodes really had some cleverness behind it!
upset that you ranked this one higher than couples discount however i love the analysis here
YES YES YES!!

actually "har" just means mountain in hebrew so "har meggido" just means mount meggido 🤓

I’d always assumed he came out as gay for the same reason so many other politicians try to appease the LGBT crowd. He’s a politician, and he wants their votes
Probably an assumption since he went as Reagan for Halloween, or Trump was the first elected president that did not oppose gay marriage.
