    I absolutely love two tone. Yes, there is this view that they are an old man watch. A watch of the 80s. But I am a 50 year old man. A child of the 80s and it fits. I worked hard to buy the watches I love and I am not in a career where a gold watch would fit. It would get too damaged. To me a two tone represents the strength of steel. The hard work and it’s tool watch origin and the gold represents success. That’s what I love about watches though. There are watches for everyone and they represent and mean so many different things to so many different people. It starts conversation and forms the basis for a story….

    I don't want to spoil your party, but Hillary didn't wear an Explorer while climbing Mount Everest, but a Smiths watch. He was indeed in possession of an Explorer but had left it behind at base camp.

    • @songoku-jx3cb
      @songoku-jx3cb ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There’s not enough evidence for it some evidence shows it was in his bagpack/pocket some shows he indeed left it behind but it was definitely not on his wrist that much is for sure

    • @thegorn
      @thegorn ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In high altitude climbing, indeed any climbing but especially high altitude, weight is critical. There is no way Hillary decided to summit with two metal watches on that’s just beyond ridiculous. The Rolex sponsorship was worth some money so Hillary downplayed this fact that he left it at camp. Anyway who really cares. Hillary got lucky anyway that the Swiss team the year before lucked out with some bad weather, getting only 240m from the summit.

      @@thegorneven still its all a speculation so it doesnt matter rolex isnt wrong in saying it was on everest as well
      Most watch heritage is manipulated and shady to some degree so unless we can prove something its pointless the hardcore evidence just isnt there

    • @gazz501
      @gazz501 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's not really his point. Max is talking about what he sees as the essential character of the Explorer and connoting the Everest moment. He of all people is aware of the doubt around whether Hillary was actually wearing, or carrying, ( which I doubt, I mean what's the point of that? ), the watch to the top of the world.
      On a side note - If, and I mean if, he actually carried that watch all the way up in his back pack or whatever just to truthfully and faithfully say to Rolex that it was up there at that moment, then I would believe that he was the one to first reach the top rather than Tenzing. If he left it at camp and simply lied about it being at the top then he gives me reason to doubt being there before Tenzing. We'll never know.

      @Leo-gh7nz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would have been one hell of an accomplishment to have an Explorer with him considering it didn’t even exist yet. If you are going to correct others, might want to get your own facts right

    Yes Camp is spot on. As the 40's - 60's aged guys now, all had dads who rocked two tone expandable band watches. That has carried over to this gen. Couple that with the skater Nixon-wearing all gilt gold quartz watches and the u give these GenX and Y guys money, u get whats going on now with Camp. Thx Max👍🏼

    I purchased an Explorer 124270 in mid-August; at a local AD; with no previous purchase history and waited a little over three weeks since my initial meeting with the sales associate. 🤷‍♂️

    • @MrFloRolf

      I also went mid August for an Explorer 1 with very little history but It was 2022 and I don't have my watch yet. Fuck me I guess.

    • @JLUnit416
      @JLUnit416 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrFloRolf technically, that was my second attempt, same watch, same AD, different SA. I tried in 2022, but in hindsight, I wasn't that serious; I already had my eye on a Speedmaster elsewhere and that trip was more of, "let's see what happens." Incidentally, my coworker, who was with me at the time, managed to get a 126200 Datejust about three weeks after that trip.
      This time around, I registered interest on this AD's website and was invited, by email, to come in to view exhibition models. Unlike last time, I stayed on point, made it clear I wanted an 124270. I was shown the two tone, to handle and see on wrist, but this SA actually owned and was wearing a 124270, took his off his wrist and let me handle it. I really appreciated that.
      What followed was part interview and part watch geeks geeking out over watches. I haven't asked him yet and I don't know if he will disclose, but I think the question and answer that won him over was when he asked me what specifically do I like about the Explorer. I told him it was, "understated and versatile...I want a Rolex, but I don't necessarily want a non-watch person to recognize that I'm wearing a Rolex."
      Happy hunting.

    Congrats on the new GMT. I like the two tone and the bezel - but Rolex really executed the GMT hand poorly - not enough difference to make it easy to quickly spot.

    Great video. Although I am not a Rolex fan, I still appreciate the content. I just don't get the hype for Rolex watches - especially the Sub. You pay a lot of money for a hideous green box, a dull case back with no design, a cheaply stamped dial with no applied logo, too much text above 6 o'clock and an uninspiring undecorated movement. For the asking price, it should be much, much better.
    You are better off buying a beautiful Longines and spend the rest of the cash on a vacation to Italy.
