So I got my ass handed to me in P3S and a slice of humble pie rammed down my backside for hours-- BUT I DID IT AND SO I AM PROUD AND SO HERE IS THIS! Paladin? You mean MY FAVORITE TANK?!?!?!?! :D
I love paladin but I’m also bias because it was my main class for ARR and HW. The reason I stopped was because I got tank anxiety and samurai is the only dps/other class I wanted to play I would only tank with friends
dont worry pal, nowadays IMHO there ain't as many toxic ppl as before. i kinda understand how you felt, we really need to stop judging rookie tanks and healers -__-
even though pld dmg is lowest, pld gives feeling of high dps, coz you are always buffed with either physical or magical and almost all skills are 500ish potency so feels good. And the rotaiton is interesting you can maintain 100% uptime of buffed goring blade/blade of valor. And pld in my opinion is best MT coz of passive blocks. Only issue i have with pld is there are no BIG SHIELD glamours
Plds passive block generally isn't the reason why it would be good at Main tanking, generally the healing from holy spirit the high rates of holy shelltron, easy range positioning make a much better case for main tanking, generally you should let warriors still main tank over you because they have more self sustain and benefit damage wise from it. Also Pld damage isn't lowest in certain situations its performing better then warrior, but the difference between all tanks in general isn't too bad
paladin is my main job, started as a gladiator, kinda crazy how my starting job has stuck with me for so long but i really love how it plays i even got my girlfriend to start as paladin and im proud of her
As far as "THE" magic tank I think that title goes to drk. You only got like 3 spells but your using them constantly. The job is designed to be "If your sitting on 9000 mp your not doing enough. If your at 2000 mp your doing too much". Pld seems to just use spells during requiescat and they never seem to be in danger of running out of mp.
I just can't mesh with Paladin. I don't hate it by any means but it feels... cluttered. It's like they smashed two jobs together. Why does a tank need a repetitive magic ranged damage cycle in their rotation? I was talking about it with a friend of mine and the best metaphor I could think of was that playing Paladin is like coming home late one night after shopping. You left the porch light off and everything is dark so you're carrying all of your purchases under your arms and fish out a MASSIVE overstuffed key ring and try to go by feel to sort through the keys to find the right one for the door by feel while trying to hold everything together and maintain balance. I would, personally, prefer to have the magic damage cycle removed and just having its potency rolled into the rest. It feels like a spoiler on a moped.
I strongly disagree with removing that magic rotation, it makes paladins have a unique ranged phased that looks good, I don't get how removing it and making it physical only would make it more repetitive. The fun for me is going through your cycles as paladin, following your rotation to a strict degree if possible, while having a few weaving abilites that you also need to manage while executing your general rotation. Of course you can improve paladins req but removing it ruins the entire identity of the job. This also allows the Pld to actually be felxable if it needs to move away from the boss for a small period it can shake up its rotation to lose down time, while other tanks just spam "ranged ability" Honestly paladin with no magic abilites would feel like half of a job and not sasifiying to play.
Paladin always had magical attributes and spells even in final fantasy, an example in 11 paladin reprisal is a magical shield that increases block rate and causes spike damage its a magical cast spell.
The magic aspect is p much the key of paladins identity and what makes it unique to me atleast. removing it just makes it the same as every other tank. imo the rotation is pretty static and and easy enough to follow but also can be messed up but doesn't feel cluttered. what feels cluttered to me is the jobs utility since most of it is just about not good enough to really worry about using. for example, intervention: the only time I would worry about using it is on the other tank for a tank buster, but why bother when the other tank can look after himself and I'm just giving myself 1 less holy sheltron use, which is an actually good ability. I guess the same could be said for all gauge cost abilities paladin has. sheltron op. The actual damage rotation I find very satisfying and it feels great to be able to actually do things at range when mechanics push you away if it all lines up well. even if thats not the case. holy spirits do more damage than the typical tank ranged attack. The only thing I would change is that circle of scorn and expacion kinda feel redundant to both have since you always press them at the same time and they are on the same timer so they could just be one ability. but that is a nothing complaint compared to what other jobs deal with lol. Im still leveling tanks but so far paladin is my favorite. warrior is second I guess, it feels very simple. Gunbreaker doesn't feel good to play so far and I don't have much hope for enjoying dark knight either since people say its very busy too so I just left it for last. not my thing but I could be completely wrong.
@@Lemongh3 intervention is actually pretty good all around when you're off tanking, espically let's say if your MT is a dark Knight who lacks self sustain your intervention are going to heal him up while doing some mitigation on the side. It might not work as well with warriors mind you warriors don't have as much raw mitigation as most tanks (obviously their self healing is insane), gunbreaker is somewhat between that, keep in mind you might aswell toss a intervention if you're sitting at 100% Me with warrior I feel brain dead I really dislike warrior if I'm actually not trying to play mindless, warrior is my least favourite Dark Knight sucks for me aswell the sustain is non existent and tbn feels awful as a tank CD. I enjoy gunbreaker despite it being somewhat clunky I find it fun and fast paced at times I think "static" is fine for the job most jobs in ff14 are static, paladin can be pretty strict and static for optimizations, but I believed paladin actually has some neat mix ups in its rotation and mainly in its openers which will change your rotation. I enjoy circle and expasion personally I wish that scorn was back on 25 seconds would make it more intresting, I would enjoy a few more weaving tools on PLD (I dislike how much on Gnb and drk, but if Pld had a lil more I think it would feel just right).

I would only tank with friends
It becomes much better at later levels to play, if you haven't got it at 90 I'd advise leveling it (with friends if you feel uncomfortable).

Just be honest. U love every class
Paladin is a job, not a Class.

Can't go wrong with classic sword and board.
as GNB main, i must admit PLD animations are far more beautiful. the only GNB cool skills are Blasting Zone. and SUPERBOLIDE -__-

True. I jzsz want sone bigger shiekd glamours. Just simple shields tho, nothing overly deformed with hiles in it or stuff xD

Started beeing gladiator and then paladin. Thanks ro jocat tho. But yes i do love me clemency. But healers dont seem to like my clemency
Healers get so offended that you have a heal that outheals all their heals

I like Paladin because it lets me let out my willingness to act like a boyscout.

They run out in bad situations when you’re forced to use Clemency.
It’s good design imo because you always have enough MP to save a bad run.
