FYI, I've put a lot of ammo through my M17 Commemorative and it has not had a failure of any kind. I fully understand the Commemorative model is a collector gun but I shoot just about every gun I have and this one is no exception. Great shooting gun and very accurate. I'm in the Air Force so when we get the M18 or M17, whichever one I end up with, I'll let you know about the proof markings. Great video as always.
I'm currently carrying the M17 in Afghanistan. Can confirm the all black controls and at a glance I didn't see the PM. I'll break it down when I get a chance and try to find it.

One other difference is the night sights. The M17 Commemorative has orange rear night sights with a green front. The commercial model has green night sights for the rear and front sight. I tested it by viewing my M17 Commemorative and it has the rear orange night sights with the green front. Nice review and appreciate the way you explained everything.
This makes sense now! So this is why some people and even well known TH-cam reviewers... Complained how they sometimes had to push the M17 slide into battery when shooting it, said it’s a flaw with the pistol but really they were not using the ammo or a variation of the ammo designed for it. The commercial version of the M17 will work fine with common 9mm ammo. Thank you for clarifying this, this channel is legit love you guys! Keep up the good work!

Your best video to date on the M17 pistols that are on the street and available for purchase. Thanks. Based on my discussions with former shipmates still on active duty with the US Navy, they have been told the Beretta M9/92FS sidearm will remain in the Fleet for "many" years to come. If the US Navy sees the M17 in shipboard use in the next five years it will be a miracle. Migration & training will be difficult for most sailors, it was for me when we abandoned the M1911 in 1985.
The military issued M18s have the P proof mark on the barrel. Also, the contract overrun M17s and M18s have the exact markings as the M18s issued to the AF. One caveat, the part numbered for the slide and barrels are different. The contract overrun M18s have the same TC serial number prefix as the ones issued.
I really like how he starts by saying the only difference between the two is markings. Then he goes into all the differences. He contradicted himself in a big way.

the colored controls on the current military versions was changed to black not because the coating was better it was to speed up the shipments to the military
I really regret not buying a commemorative M17 I had the chance at. After thinking about it though, I'm not a collector and I don't want to have to shoot +p ammunition
For that price maybe they could just include black levers with it just so people can pick , or use it without worrying about wearing the paint next time
I don't recall you covering this, but on my samples, the rear sights on the le commerative have orange lamps and the lamps on my 320-m17 are green, not sure if they changed the lamps on the current military issue.
I bought the m17 commemorative several months back for $990 and had 3 to choose from. Agree with Chris that these are great for US martial arm collectors but I still held my nose at the purchase price. I still haven’t warmed up to the p320 or the m17 although I’m trying! No, theyre sending three grip frames with each gun to the army they coming in separate packages(i saw a clip of the army receiving n sorting the guns) n the m17 internals have zinc phosphate coating on the armys thats very expensive. The sight plates are swappable between both but the armys has orange rears(both cut for deltapointpro). Id love to get ahold of a m17 sigth plate for mine. N i saw clip of Phil Strader saying they are planning on releasing the m18s somehow, some version. M17/18 has the extended slide catch(x5) i put one on my p320m17 makes all the difference. Good vid been wanting to see a comparison video. Ive never seen or read anything about them proof testing either. if i coulda got the real one i woulda took it, i heard them goin as low as 900 even lower i believe. But i have yet to find one in stock other then gunbroker for 12 1300^^ill sub👍
Regarding military markings, doesn't the Beretta M9 civilian model have the part number and CAGE code marked on the slide? IIRC, early civvie models also had a part no. on the hammer (and maybe other parts?). Did Beretta have to have a concession from the Army for these?
The slide coatings look different. Was that just an illusion? Thanks for the comparison. I really want one of the P320 M17s, but own a P320 with SC, C, and F grip modules and uppers. I also own a P320 X5. So I can’t quite justify picking up a P320 M17 when it isn’t exactly like the military version, but also don’t want to pay $1100 for a pistol that should be < $700.

The fire control unit on the commemorative is also marked “US 9mm”, and has a QR code engraved next to it. It doesn’t look like the commercial FCU has that...does it? Come on man, details details...
The SIG P320-M17 is a sad sad joke and a complete waste that lacks all common sense. They even went as far as attempting to justify it by claiming false rumors about the military is going to switch to all black controls at Shot Show 2018. After finally deciding to sell us the actual M17 (minus the altered takedown lever) like they should have from the start, they double the price. They should have just made a subtle difference in markings from Government and Civilian pistols since the Government seems to think they're special and we somehow don't already have the exact same pistol they do since they wanted one already in production to begin with. We didn't get the compact M18 slide, holster or ammo, and what the fuck difference does it really make? The have a special tool required to disassemble theirs past field stripping, we don't. That's as prominent a difference as any. Serial numbers? All frustrating and stupid.
Super Mahilo the military actually did drop the lock outs on the takdown on the guns after the trials batch. And really did go with black controls, after the trials guns.

They put out a 19X but it was not the true rendition of the MHS entry since they decided to omit the manual safety which is something that was very different from the legacy. Mistake on Glock’s part, they should have put out a proper MHS.
They should have stayed with Beretta, two grips and a threaded barrel all in a plastic ammo can. Built like a tank. Owned the P320 RX, shot 50rnds through it, sent it in for "VU", sold it, lost $150, never looked back. Hated that gun.
WeeeThPpl The problem was that they wanted to phase out the aging and poorly maintained m9s. Beretta offered an upgrade program, but the main problem was that the guns in use had worn out components so they needed to replace the whole gun. They gave specifications (striker fired, polymer, modular) for an entirely new design. While Berettas are great guns, and the pros and cons of striker fired and da sa can be argued all day, the new gun can be very easily modified with replacement parts and upgrades.
@@Jordan-nc3zy The problem with replacing the M9 is there's so much shit other than the gun itself you have to replace too. You have to get new holsters, new magazines, retrain armorers, ect. Combining that with how suspect the testing was really makes me think someone high up got a bribe from Sig to accept their gun.

When I was in the army, the M17 commemorative had black slide seperators. Other than that, pretty sick ass gun. I kinda want the M17 lol.

On the commemorative, where are the screw holes, that are on the underside of the slide, to mount the red dot? That's a major difference too.
Isn't the military M17 speced to use the Leupold Delta Point Pro optic where as the commercial version uses only Sig Romeo optics?

The internals of the commemorative are supposed to have a phosphate, or anti corrosion coating. Did you find this to be the case?
You also forgot to mention the challenge coin and the certificate of authenticity that sig sends you for free when you register your M17 through Sig!

Strangely the M17 slide release has 3 horizonal lines, the P320 M17 has 2.
Yeah its a xfive slide catch. I got on n swapped it on my p320m17 n its a must with the manual saftey.
The great thing about the modular grip system is if it gets damaged it's an easy fix.

I've seen P320/M17s in different local shops for mid-$600s.
Just got one for 500 with 2 extended and one standard mag brand new never fired

Mine came with a blue spring and would continuously fail to seat a round. I had to buy the orange to make it work
