Hey thanks for cuttin to the chase. Learnin to burn out and removed the inpurities was the #1 procedure that improved my cast aluminum welding repairs. Peening, hard to tell but good practices get followed. But, i have reintruduced impurities with a dirty ball peen hammer, and ive not heard any wekders in youtube land mention it. Keep up the good work
Hey, that Razor is a fine machine. Here in Europe they sell it as Jasic. I have one and it's my favourite . I also have a SAF a Cebora and a Miller, but the last 3 years I did almost all of my TIG jobs with this machine. Love your channel bro.
Aye T7 in the back, love seeing more people adopt adventure bikes as they are superior. I'd love to see video doing similar repair using standard tig filler, versus some of the specialized filler made for cast repairs like this. 9 times out of ten since im a home gamer I just normal rods for whatever cast junk friends/family ask for help on.
Nice. The chemical composition of that Flamehold stuff is very similar to Play-doh except with different proportions of the ingredients (it's mostly mica, salt, and water).
Love your videos haha, i recently tried welding some cast aluminium and it was horrible lmao. It was just a lid off of a coffee pot tho so no high stakes ;). been learning welding the past few years, both MIG and mostly TIG and having a blast learning and figuring out as i go.
Sometimes what you can do is do a pre run without filler on the part to help pull any oxides or contaminates prior to welding. Also helps with pre heat.
Safety always says wear gloves when handling solvent of any kind, but I am with you I have seen girls soak their fingers in it for 30+ minutes to take off nails. I think the gloves are more so you don't contaminate the base metal or the rods with the oils on your hands.
Anthony, I understand the importance of post flow while the tungsten is red hot after welding aluminum. but why is it not an issue when welding regular steel or stainless steel, i run almost no post flow when welding carbon steel and my tungsten stays perfect. but if i even move the tungsten through the air too fast after an aluminum weld it just flakes apart
Flame Holder = Pottery Clay (purchase at your local art store for $12). Also, we appreciate the brand you're using but more importantly, is it 5356 or 4043 rod that you're using? I use both with mixed results.
Anthony, I see you have a Vulcan Weld Machine. Is it the Multiprocess machine? If so, how do you like it. I currently have a Lincoln Pro Mig 140 and a off brand stick machine. I'm looking to upgrade to a Multiprocess machine and was wondering what is best for the price. Thank man, love your channel. Fuck, fight, weld pipe...
It’s the mig 210. Unfortunately my Miller 250 crapped out on me mid job so I ran to hobo freight on the weekend as grabbed this machine. It’s not bad honestly. Definitely not as smooth as my Miller .
Tool and die welder here. No hate, just honest advice, cast aluminum is a fucking bitch and i hate it every time it comes into the shop. I've never used anything by "Rockmount" and they don't release its contents so I don't know that I ever would. Not knowing the composition of a rod is a big no for me, no matter how its advertised. I'm sure in your case that doesnt really matter though, because this isnt a high stress part, so that not the point im trying to make there. In my personal experience, I prefer something with higher magnesium content (5% or above) , as it helps with ductility and prevents cracking, you'll find those high contents in fillers such as 5356, 5183, or 5556. I don't know where the average guy can find 5183 or 5556, so for most things, just use 5356. (edit to add this, unless you are exposing it to 150+ degree temperatures pretty much constantly, in that case, probably use like 4043 or 5554) 5356 also has about 6,000 more pounds of tensile than that Rockmount does, and better shear strength. Add that with the ductility, its basically the farmers rod of aluminum. Also yes, peening is good. to elaborate a little further than you did, by peening it down you're essentially relieving some of the internal stress that welding creates. I often have to do this on most dies I weld on, usually tool steels that don't much like to be welded on, (H-13 and such). I usually use an air hammer, but im sure the ball peen does good enough with how soft the aluminum is. Overall, good repair. Looks solid enough to hold. Keep it up, love from the midwest.
@@MeltinMetalAnthony. Cold cock rider..?? That’s a new one on me. Only meltinmetalanthony could come up with that one. Not entirely sure what that means and not sure I want to know 😂
He’s just another TH-cam clown pushing junk products nobody actually uses he even mentioned it in a video of his before. This one was as about as good as his carbon arc video…. Do what I do tune in for show once in a bit and have a laugh. Bevel it weld it and put money in your pocket.

Great repair. Thanks for the link to the flame holder. That about blew my mind. You are an awesome tradesman on everything you do. 🤘
Thanks bud! The flame hold is some great stuff. I use it anytime I have a awkward fit up
Would play doh work?
@ 😂🤣
I agree. Should definitely last until it breaks again.
Damn Rockstar! Kickin ass and takin names buddy! Awesome repair on that cast aluminum.
Thanks bud!
Definitely going to have to check out the flame hold. Thanks for the tip!
You won't regret it. It's a game changer.

Play-doh you cant eat, so theres that.
Like your vids man. I would love to do what you do. I have a Lincoln tig welder and a cheap Amazon stick welder and been practicing

Awesome video and a cool
Repair👍👍
Thanks 👍
Nice job, thanks for sharing.
Appreciate it, bud!
I sometimes think that cast aluminum and pot metal were the plastics we use now. I have welded plastic wheel well tabs so it's not all bad.
Ya I can see that

*Your kung fu is strong. For first two years I turned down aluminum jobs, Now I hoard them for rainy days!*
Pure sauce, not Bs. thank you!
Thanks, I try to keep it real.

Hey Anthony, what number 3m respirator filter are you using? Why not use a hammer drill for your peening?
Yes the quick latch. Link in the description. And for a piece this small the hammer is easier for me
Lol, have a blessed day America
You too!
When did you get the Vulcan welder?!
When I broke the Miller 251. It’s a back up now

I’m not really sure. My guess is it has something to do with alternating frequency. I use more post flow on SS so I avoid cooking it

Wifey acetone bath 🤣😭 so true
Will "peening" shut my wifes cats the F up?
😂😂
Yes, just don't do it in front of her 😁
Just about anything in the shop will work , if used properly .
Of course getting a good ground can be problematic ....
If you dig a hole in the backyard then put them in it and tell them your playing his and seek while filling the hole in works.
Make sure you use a big enough hammer!
Latex best with acetone.
Whats a coilet? Collet?
Its the piece that holds your tungsten & is the point of electrical contact from the torch to the tungsten.

I rarely see die welders on social media. I'm just north of Detroit. Where in the Midwest are you at?
@@grumpycricketMichigan, down by the niles area. Good to see another die welder out here. stay safe brother 🤙
Bottle of Argon from non Thieve Welding suppliers is about 75 bucks.

Brah, you got some bent Q tips in yer ears....
You had to show the little mess up you done so they can see and identify when they do it. They have no idea what your talking bout
I need a camera that can capture arc shots.
You should watch more u tube vids maybe take a class stop teaching people bad advice
What would you do different cold cock rider
why not provide some info that explains why Anthony's advice is "bad advice" so we all can learn? otherwise, your comment is not helpful to anyone.

You can’t weld aluminum can’t tig at all bud
You're kinda coming off as a keyboard warrior. Do you weld in your mom's basement?
Your not a real welder are you you found a area where you can get money
Ok boomer 😂
Go back to yelling at discovery channel shows 😂
Why weld if you're not going to make money???
