  • It's 50 years since Enoch Powell's infamous 'Rivers of Blood' speech, warning that Britain was under threat from mass immigration.
Sky's Political Correspondent, Lewis Goodall, has spent time in Powell's former constituency of Wolverhampton to see what kind of impact the speech still has today.

Australia and NZ were discovered by the Dutch, Had Cook not planted the flag the Dutch would have turned the Antipodes into Dutch colonies. As an East African Asian and Goan, I completely agree with the 'Rivers Of Blood' speech. For, many from my wave of immigrants settled in Leicester, creating ghettos and driving out the indigenous people. Today the third generation have nothing in common with Whites, have never visited an English household and know more about their grandfathers village in India then the one next door.
Now both the Race Card and their concentration of numbers means that immigrants have the 'Whip Hand' over the Englishman. For the Race Card has been deployed by the West Indian community to destroy British policing. Our electoral system, means that a community only has to get a small but significant number of their people to the polling booth, in order to win a seat at Westminster. Most Black and Asian MP's are therefore nakedly partisan, even when there exists a conflict between the norms of our civilisation and their culture.
Today 23 out off 33 London Boroughs have a white minority, in which neighbourhoods are split along the lines of race.
Englands future will evolve to one in which each region of the country and neighbourhood will have its own racial identity. This will be remarkably similar to the system of apartheid in South Africa.
Enoch will go down in history as one of the greatest statesmen ever.

Enoch Powell wasnt a racist, a term which he referred to as a form of abuse due to its broad definition. Rather, he rightly saw, that uncontrolled immigration would lead to to tension and he feared, even conflict between communities. Its interesting that this same problem is playing out in South Africa, where uncontrolled migrants have flooded our cities. This has resulted in very serious and violent reactions from the local population.

"It split the country down the middle."
It absolutely did not. Polls taken after the speech showed that almost 85% of respondents agreed with Powell.
History has proven him, and that speech, entirely correct.

Upon reading the various comments on this speech and similar youtube videos, I'm surprised at the universal support for wanting to stem immigration. I often wonder why such people do not seem to be represented on live television debates. This surely undemocratic and ignoring the wishes of the British public!

The man was correct, unfortunately the establishment adopted the Keynesian Revolution, however the people of the UK adopted the views of Enoch Powell. He wasn't a racist and he wasn't nasty, just like the modern right of today, the hate, race and problems come from the left

The UK like most of the west adopted the "Open Society" which rejects any ethnic based nationalism for Europeans and strong statesmen leaders. The reason for this, was the Jewish intellectuals who came up with it believed it is the only way to prevent another Hitler from coming into power and prevent another holocaust that is the reasoning.

I get frustrated that ‘populist’ appears to be regarded as negative description. Populist definition ‘a person, especially a politician, who strives to appeal to ordinary people who feel that their concerns are disregarded by established elite groups’……is that why we vote?
