Chris and Rick Try to Make the Perfect Stuffing | Making Perfect: Thanksgiving Ep 3 | Bon Appétit

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 24 ก.ย. 2024
- On Thanksgiving, what's better than stuffing? Nothing. Nothing is better than stuffing. It's the best. But what if it was truly perfected? We believe that perfect stuffing could lead to world peace. That's why on this episode of Making Perfect, our very own Chris Morocco and Rick Martinez are taking up the noble task of perfecting it. And isn't that really the spirit of Thanksgiving?

I totally agree. You would think that professional chefs would have mastered culinary basic terminology by the end of their first Thanksgiving meal! 🦃
I had never heard of people calling stuffing dressing, so I actually had no idea what they were talking about for a second cause I also don't rlly pay attention

“I’m gonna eat this taco, make another taco, eat that taco then get my head in the game”. Me too man, me too.
The problem here is that Thanksgiving itself is different for every family...with that said so is tradition. Culture is what is going to be reflected in each unique thanksgiving. For example, Rick and all the heat that he loved when reminiscing about his family's food. For me, we always have an array of different flavors at our table, that's our/ tradition. So if you're upset that some recipes are not "traditional" enough, its all subjective man. There's no right or wrong amount of tradition. If you'd rather not recreate it, then by all means don't.
Chris: afraid to tell Rappo he put ground up corn nuts in the stuffing
Also Chris: makes stuffing fried rice
Stuffing is made with rice instead of bread in many countries btw.
Tol1as My point was that he was afraid of telling Adam he used something slightly out of the norm in the recipe but he was fine with serving a fried rice version which is totally different than the traditional American dish. It’ll be interesting to see what everyone else thinks of it and how it will go with the rest of the meal.
Tol1as “Stuffing” made with rice instead of bread is just rice.
@@tiarefleur1 The stuffing I know of is a combination of rice and ground meat, plus chestnuts, raisins, pine seeds etc. I'd never heard of bread stuffing before.
@@tiarefleur1 I mean if you're not stuffing a bird is it even stuffing, at that point it's just dressing regardless if it's bread or rice.

there’s a lot of people upset about the cohesion of the feast. the ‘issue’ is that it’s just a potluck. the series isn’t so much how to make the perfect thanksgiving feast as it is how to perfect each aspect of a thanksgiving feast.
It is literally “making perfect: thanksgiving” its not “making perfect aspect: thanksgiving”
@@fivepackmac9506 thanksgiving is a potluck in and of itself, so it's a combination of aspects. also it's literally different episodes. wouldn't be a series if it wasn't for each specific element. not to mention the pizza series is how to perfect each aspect of a pizza.

This parsley is spicy enough...CHRIS PUT IN THE JALEPEÑOS
My family makes a super similar “stuffing” with cornbread and i honestly look forward to it almost as much as the turkey, so I don’t think what they’ve done is at all a wild concept. And while I’m sure the whole grinding corn nuts situation isn’t the norm, it’s also not supremely inaccessible or if you want to omit it, detrimental to the dish. To also call this unAmerican or non traditional is an incredibly flawed argument that follows a homogenized, Eurocentric view of thanksgiving in America. This series presents so much to explore and and differentiate a potentially monotonous holiday that just because it doesn’t align with what you think was going to happen, or what you’re used to doesn’t invalidate it’s worth. I love the thanksgiving episodes SO MUCH, I watch them as a source of comfort and fun, and some of these disparaging comments really suck. I think they found a largely innovative, delicious, and as the end of the series presents, harmonious set of dishes and people for a thanksgiving feast!
This all the way. My family doesn’t have cornbread ever at thanksgiving but I was still intrigued and happy about the final cornbread dressing - it looked bomb af! Ppl threw so much shade in the comments about Chris just not wanting to hurt Rick’s feelings but they are both professionals and I seriously can’t imagine they’d spend that much time developing testing and publishing a recipe they weren’t both proud of and excited about. “Weird” is relative to each persons own experiences; also throwing corn nuts in a coffee grinder (or smashing them in the packet tbh) is so low lift compared to carving a whole turkey or any number of other common thanksgiving cooking tasks.
Thank you. This is perfect.

I honestly had to pause just a moment to say how Rick's stuffing reminds me so much of my grandma's. Texas represent yo. Ours is kinda a mix of both of y'all's methods tho! We use cornbread and supplement it with toasted torn-up bread plus we do add one egg to the whole thing.

Chris and Rick have really good chemistry! It’s like I’m sitting at the adult table
Chris brings a certain order that moves things along, but with Rick it wasn't necessary.
By that I mean look at the last Make Perfect: Molly with Carla vs Molly with Chris, Andy with Brad vs Andy with Chris.

Chris Morocco: "You're gonna be left with a bullet train headed straight to Flavor-town"
Guy Fieri's nachos have left their mark on Morocco.
"Bullet train headed straight to flavortown". Chris is finally a citizen in papa Fieries town😂😂
This is gonna sound really stupid, but I worry just a little bit that the combination of all of their foods (stuffing, potatoes, turkey, etc.) might become too much. All of the food will be relatively bold, well seasoned, and the star of the show in their own merit. It might be too much of a good thing, and everything might be delicious and well made to the point that it’s a little much for the palate to handle. Whenever I make my thanksgiving meal, I balance things out. I go bold with my flavors for the turkey, stuffing, and Mac and Cheese, but then I add things like regular sweet potato casserole, simple butter mashed potatoes, corn, and peas to add a simplicity (some would say blandness) to round out the meal. This is probably some insane, overdrawn conclusion so ignore it if it sounds bad. It’s just me. In no way am I insulting any of these fantastic chefs and their cooking abilities because I’d give several limbs to try one of these astonishing dishes.
Stigglitz i was thinking the same thing
You're right. They didn't consult between teams about the amount of chilli flakes that were being used between all of them.
I personally grew up with all the dishes of a meal the star of their own show so I think this meal is a dream
Yet you have... Mac and cheese. Yeah, that’s fine for a Sunday night during a snowstorm but isn’t there already enough carbs involved on Thanksgiving with stuffing and mashed potatoes?
kathryn witte its thanksgiving aka day of the carbs lol
"80s music, coffee, and doughnuts?"
"Yes."
Sounds like heaven
Having watched the other two episodes and then this one, I can't help but think, will the WHOLE dinner balance together? I hope that the last episode touches on this question.
Yeah, this is a question I too have, so many inputs can make it a disaster, as a non US Thanksgiving aficionado I think the flavours are pretty basic of a regular dinner, but there's not really much room for experimentation either, before it turns out into a every day fusion restaurant dinner, as if right now the only thing that makes sense to me is the crispy mashed potatoes
Yeah this episode kind of turned into more of a making gourmet stuffing than makin’ a perfect one. Idk if this one fits as much with the other recipes even though it does look good.
So far the only ones to have actually done what they set out to do were Brad and Andy. The others have created something crazy, perhaps with the assumption that everyone else has made something fairly ordinary. This is going to be a real mess at the end.
Andy and Brad did a great job, but everyone else has kind of ran with their own ideas rather than figuring out the best version. I’d be interested to know how many people are actually going to make this spicy stuffing fried rice thing. There are so many things to think about when you’re cooking a huge meal like this, and I’m really doubtful that people will have time/money/energy to do all of this.. everyone seems to be going for spicy as well? I’d never make my Christmas dinner spicy
I've made enchiladas and hot wings for thanksgiving dinner (separate years) so I'd for sure make this fried rice stuffing and if it didn't fit with everything else on the table then I'd change the rest of the menu. Thanksgiving is more family than it is any one meal.

Is it just me or does it seem like Rick is the only person who has ever intimidated Chris
Chris has phenomenal patience for fools.
I don't think it's intimidate. I think it's presenting stuff Chris didn't already think of or was right in the vicinity of what he considered.
I think there is a certain control aspect (look how neatly both dress) that matches up.
i think it might be because like most people chris is a god. don’t get me wrong, he is but rick is a bit more like “i respect you, you respect me but i like what i like” kinda vibe yknow
I feel like he's tip toeing around a perceived political correctness minefield because Rick keep pushing Mexican style on everything and that's not their task, to just make what that particular chef thinks is good or something new. He keeps pushing adding hot peppers and corn to almost everything they did. Most people in America don't put jalapeño peppers in Thanksgiving stuffing. Chris just genuinely didn't seem to like the "more corn! more hot peppers!" flavors and Rick felt a bit to insistent on it.
@@sellingacoerwa8318 I got that exact impression as well.

Just me but I felt that this episode was really missing the POV about your everyday people making/eating the stuffing that the previous episodes kept in mind when making decisions
@Smiley Look at the Turkey episode... They legitimately said the other two methods of cooking where better but they wanted to do it in the oven so everyone could make it.
