    This little device is absolutely perfect as a tate shmup emulation machine. I can now play games like Dodonpachi, Raiden, Dimahoo, Armed Police Batrider, etc. without having a small vertical image on a system with a 16:9 or even a 4:3 aspect ratio. But even regular 4:3 retro games fit so well on a 1:1 screen. This is probably the best arcade emulation handheld on the market right now.

      I had to buy one for exactly that reason 😂😂

    As an old-skool gamer, I'm just looking for a system that plays a good game of Robotron. Everything else is pure bonus for me.

    I just ordered mine. Most of the games I play on these are 4:3 anyway. It also looks more comfortable to hold also.

    Have been playing a bit of Pico8 just today. Still, after all these years (first came out in 2015) it's worth mentioning, especially for handheld devices. (And sure, development and interest in Pico-8 has probably slowed down a bit, and eventually Lexaloffle will have to release a Pico-8 II, but for now it's totally still worth it, with its immense back catalog especially)
    And the little 'Splore' browser is as much fun to use as it is simplistic, meaning very.
    Regarding the RGB30, I agree that it's going to be one of the hottest sellers this year. That's nice for Powkiddy, not having to be the cute but clumsy underdog for once.

    @edwardrivera8936 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great review! Thank you as well for displaying neo geo pocket gameplay. I have been wanting to see how it looks on the rgb30 and it looks really good with Gb and gbc. I am curious how the Game Gear outputs on to screen.

    This might be my first retro handheld.
    You say this isn't for "all-in-one" emulation. Am I good if I don't plan on playing anything more complicated than PS1 games (with some MAME thrown in the mix)?

    • @NaraMakesGames
      @NaraMakesGames  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would vote yes, for sure. Most people who are looking for an all-in-one are hoping to get everything from Atari all the way up to PS2 all on one device. The RGB30 is one of the best ways to play 8-32 bit. So if you plan on mostly playing things below PS1, I think it's one of the best devices available. It will play PS1, Dreamcast, N64 as well. And those are also 4x3, so they will look good too.

    This is such a nice review with the most important points covered, not getting lost in technical nonsense. I mainly play GB, GBC and arcades on my emulators and so far, the RG280V and the RG353PS beat all the others, including the Retroid Pocket 3 Plus, RG353VS, RG35XX and RG351P. Either because of Android, the form factor or the screen aspect ratio/size, but none of these provided the portability of the 280V or the overall utility and affordability of the 353PS. However, the Powkiddy would actually improve the experience of the 353PS. I have Vitas and various Nintendo DS/2/3DS devices, so PSP is not a concern for me, I don’t care about these games, or GameCube, PS2 or even Android. You are so right that emulators offer very incremental, if any improvement.

    • @NaraMakesGames
      @NaraMakesGames  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Re: what you said about not getting lost in the technical details... I try to focus my reviews on the experience more than the tech. There are lots of more qualified reviewers out there who can tell you about the CPU and RAM. I wanna talk about how cool it looks at a coffee shop.

  • @maxducoudray
    @maxducoudray ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting you were positive on the dpad; most reviewers highlight it as a weakness. I can see some subjectivity there, but as an RGB30 owner I have experienced control issues with the loose dpad, so I would say it’s not a positive myself.

    • @NaraMakesGames
      @NaraMakesGames  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well to be specific, I think every dpad on every single device in the past two years is unusable without opening the console and doing some adjustments. I wouldnt say the rgb30 had the worst ive experienced. But needed the fix. This, like default software, is just something familiar users come to expect. When we buy handhelds, we replace the software and fix the dpad. Then go from there.

    • @maxducoudray
      @maxducoudray ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NaraMakesGames That’s beyond my skill set, so I’m forced to live with it as is. 😄

    • @NaraMakesGames
      @NaraMakesGames  ปีที่แล้ว

      yes @@maxducoudray . Which is a bummer for anybody buying an emulator.

    • @SwiftJustice
      @SwiftJustice 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@maxducoudrayFixing the dpad is dead easy on RGB30. You need a special screwdriver for Ambernic but this thing takes a regular small phillips screwdriver. Just open it up with a guitar pick and place a square of electrical tape (7 millimeters wide) on the center of the dpad, under the rubber membrane. That's it. No more false diagonals.

    • @maxducoudray
      @maxducoudray 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SwiftJustice You'd be surprised how intimidating something like this can be for someone who never builds or tinkers with machines.

  • @jkap9828
    @jkap9828 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Good review, except, it really falls short in terms of quality. Screen is a bug ++, but the plastic and buttons and dpad feel so --. Maybe it's being spoiled from my Anbernic devices, but I really feel like I'm playing with a fake device rather than a premium handheld. It's such a shame too. This and the v90 could be awesome in the hands of Anbernic if they ever try to use those form factors.

  • @jeepee2

    Which color between white and black looks more premium if I can say so? Or less cheap maybe?

    • @NaraMakesGames
      @NaraMakesGames  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the white looks more premium. But its very close. The black does show fingerprints.

  • @jazzybeat28

    Got mine few days ago. Quality is bad. It came with a broken R2 button and a screen has spot lights at the bottom.

    • @NaraMakesGames
      @NaraMakesGames  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't use analogue sticks. So I never want them on retro focused devices.

  • @droidlycodes
    @droidlycodes ปีที่แล้ว

    If the price was cheaper maybe but until you own a Pocket 2S this device is absolutely not worth it. Plus the ergonomics don't look like they'd suit my loves (not likes) as the 2S is near to perfect.
