  • As you can see there is ticking on the driver side, lightweight knocking on the passenger side. Engine also has a small shake at idle. Looking for suggestions or recommendations please.

Run a thinner motor oil, esp with the cold weight; try either 5w-40 or 0w-40, if you wanna stick with the heavier hot oil weight. I can’t tell if mine ever made the same sound, or if it went from one side of the engine to the other; I kept my cosmetic engine cover on until I went from the factory spec 5w-30 oil, to 0w-40 (newer oil specs for GM LT engines).
I currently run 0w-40, and mine ticks on the passenger side upon cold starts, but will quiet down as it idles down and warms up within 3-5 minutes. It’s a lot more noticeable if you don’t have the cosmetic engine cover installed.
I don’t plan on using oil stabilizer or running a thicker oil (cold weight), as I feel like this is more of just a “bandage” for a non-resolvable, typical, expected occurrence.
Supposedly, it’s loud fuel injector noises on cold starts. Mine quiets/calms down as the engine warms up and idles down.

As many have said on here, it's normal. LSx engines make a lot of valvetrain noise. I first got introduced to it on my 2000 Silverado 5.3L. It did it from the day I bought it brand new. Put 75k on the truck until I traded it in on my 2005 GTO LS2. It ticked. Traded that in on a 2006 Silverado 5.3L. It ticked. Decided I wanted a GTO again, so I traded it for a 2006 GTO LS2, of course, and it ticked. Kept that car until I bought my 2011 Camaro SS LS3 in 2014. It ticks, and still ticks to this day (yes, I still have it). Never had a problem with any of them. I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless you hear a loud knocking sound. These engines are pretty damn strong and reliable. Just drive it, and keep the oil changed. It's doubtful that you will have an issue with it.

I’m thinking about buying a 2014 red rock Camaro 1/ss with 38k miles. Would it be reliable basically could I depend on it as a summer vehicle for at least 30k miles because I’m thinking about buying a Kia instead for reliability. I’ve had Kia In the passed and it’s the most reliable vehicle I ever owned. The first time I bought American was about 2 years ago and I’ve already taken a hit financially with repairs. My Kia went 8+years without anything going wrong. Needless to say I’d obviously rather drive a ls3 Camaro and bang gears but I’m worried I’ll regret it if the Camaro ss has problems. I don’t drive really crazy I’m anal about warming up my vehicles and I only race when rival manufacturers pull up and my vehicle is warmed up or I’m on a straight long road

@@ryansalamah6849 My mom bought a Kia Optima right about the same time I got my 14 Camaro SS. Both had about 14-20k. At 80k miles the Kia began to knock and needed major work. My Camaro recently caught up to her Kia and at 80k still purrs like she just left the plant.

    First things to think:
    1- oil level
2- oil condition , is it old ?
3- is the last oil change 5w30 dexos?

Most ls3 and L99 do that lifter ticking sound. It's kind of "normal" even tho I don't like it. I was told that there was a new set of lifters to fix this issue and GM was aware of it. True or false, I don't know. I just make sure to have the right type of oil in the engine and one thing that I belive made a difference was using 93 oct. Fuel.

Is it a l99 with AFM? I deactivated and then deleted my AFM a while back because of the lifters. I think you are ok but just keep a eye on it because if it gets louder you may need to replace a lifter and if you do just delete the AFM and VVT with a ls3 conversion kit while your in there

That’s like saying just use diesel with low grade gas instead of premium gas big no thank you.
Oil viscosity is very important as it needs to flow where it needs to go at that flow (viscosity is the measurement speed of which liquid flows, having a thicker oil you will have to have a lack of oil pressure on high contact parts causing them to wear out faster or prematurely break due to heat from the friction)
