Thank you very much, Gary. I now understand why sometimes it can feel confusing to use something as simple as the print dialog box. This video relates well to your other Save dialog box and the Finder tutorials. Three related but distinct things. Hope Apple will improve the consistency of using these tools.

I figured this much out pretty quickly - then I needed to print on my Epson P5000, which can be very complicated, and spent a half hour finding everything. Still not sure I found it all (managed the one I needed it for but still working out the rest of B&W fine art choices.arrrrgggh.

I hope I don’t run into the issue of the “auto selection” of the paper tray choosing the wrong paper feed (my printer has a front tray, and a rear paper feed, i normally use plain A4 paper, which is what i keep in the tray, and i rarely use the rear paper feed), however, one time when i left it set to “auto select”, it decided to choose the rear paper feed, this printer also supports automatic double sided printing)
I can’t remember which computer i was using when that happened, but i had to cancel it and manually select to use the front tray (as there was no paper in the rear feed)

Hi Gary - thanks for the good overview. I have a client who hates the Ventura print dialog in that when using Preview or Safari or any other Apple App - the new Print Dialog is not movable/floating. Is there anyway to make it float like in Monterey? She likes to move the print dialog over to one side of her 27" screen and then peruse a long document for example to be certain of which pages she wants to print. She finds it too difficult to peruse this using thumbnails. Is there any way to make these print dialog boxes floating again? or a decent workaround? - maybe after your video - using the open in preview is the next best thing? Thanks.

I think your printer needs to support that. Otherwise, you need to figure it out in the layout yourself and feed the paper in the right way at the right time.

Gary, I use excel on my Mac. Prior to the Ventura redesign I was able to print one sheet in Landscape and one sheet in Portrait from the same workbook in one print job. Now, in Ventura it doesn't work. All sheets switch two whatever orientation I selected last. Any ideas? Thank You!!!

That would be something controlled by Excel, not macOS. It has its own printing function. So maybe a change in Excel?

This video is helpful for Word, but doesn't seem to work for Excel. I'm trying to enlarge the text size when printing an excel document seems to be impossible. There's no option to charge print size percentages like in Windows. I feel like i have to buy a used, cheap Windows computer for the sole purpose of printing excel documents so I can increase the text size.

      This comment worried me!
I don’t print often but, when I do, I print both sides of the paper to save paper.
      Went and checked.
      I have a Samsung M283x.
Printing from Pages, there was an option in the ‘Copies’ section labelled “Double Sided” which toggles Off/On.
Chose On and it printed on both sides a la Duplex.
If you don’t see this then you might need to contact the printer manufacturer for advice.

🏴‍☠BLACK BARON🏴‍☠ If iReduce the scale factor, the number of pages will increase or decrease? Developers, fixed width or scalable width on large screen Retina displays for printer dialogs? Resizable Preview panel pane to make Preview larger?

    • @macmost

Depends on the app and what it prints. An image editing app may just enlarge the image but always print on one sheet. A text document app may enlarge the text and reflow onto more pages.

You came so close to addressing my issue - where I can't see the Print button (and the save to PDF option) at the bottom of the screen, but you didn't quite succeed at addressing my issue. I have minimized all the extra options in order to make the print screen dialogue box come up a bit from the bottom, but it wasn't enough. I use a larger resolution. What would solve it is if the Safari page didn't jump down about an inch from the top of the screen OR if there was an ability to move the print dialogue box up from the bottom. Moving the dock will help as well, but I don't want to change all that. DO YOU ANY OTHER IDEAS? (or do I just have to hope that a newer upgrade to the iOS will solve this? Thanks for all your informative videos.

So what I show at 8:18 isn't working the same for you? What does it do instead?

    • @wheelchairdemon2008
      @wheelchairdemon2008 ปีที่แล้ว

@@macmost I'm not sure how to reply without using screenshots, however I'll try. To start with, I use a slightly bigger resolution due to my vision. I use 1280 x 800 instead of 1440 x 900. I've had the resolution set slightly bigger for years not only on my computer but on my cell phone and iPad as well. I never used to have display problems because of it. Now I continually have to change my resolution in order to use, among other things, the print feature. Using the bigger resolution, if I collapse all those lower menus, the Print button and option to save as PDF still won't display. If I change my resolution to default and move the dock to the side, then I can see them. I just wish I could grab the dialogue box and raise it up on the screen. Then there would be no problem.

OMG it’s looking like every MacOS settings it’s an Electron App
    Everything it’s half baked.
Everything it’s a scrolling. The under the hood it’s really good. Global OCR in spotlight, faster system updates. Really good. But the team behind this overhauling the interface had to made a iOS version of every settings. I’m so disappointed. Really bad design.
It looks to me a touch mac will come very soon and they have a deadline to meet. Otherwise Samsung hijacked the MacOS design team.
