I really appreciate the critique. It's exactly what I needed. I will say that while I'm at 4 years, it is about 1-2 years old. I'll need to send in a more recent one for more critique. I appreciate what you do Pony! Just in time for my birthday too. 😂
I actually disagree with his comments about the eyes and brows. From what I can see, they are pretty nice. Not perfectly symmetrical, but it's reading well.
Ive been tattooed by nate and his work really is insane, he is so methodical in his work. I respect him very much as a fellow artist myself. And to top it off hes a good dude as well!
The Jason James tattoo at 3:34 is really funny to me. I love the original tattoo, however back when I was trying to build a portfolio to get my apprenticeship. I worked with a guy who claimed to draw, but never really wanted to chat about art, just would ignore my comments and show off his "drawings". The only good one I ever saw, which he ended up getting someone to tattoo on him, happened to look very familiar. After a bit of pondering I found the original and realized he just copied that Jason James tattoo. So that particular design will always bring joy to my face when I see it, thanks to that wonderful memory of an old co worker.
Most old flash is considered okay 👌🏽 to tattoo, there’s also places where you can get new flash, like Flash Tattoo Collective, they have a ton of flash sheets and on their website they say you can use those designs to tattoo….but ONLY to tattoo.
I REALLY love the rose and red gem on the black lace! It fills my goth girl heart with joy! Now I have to find a tattoo artist in my country and state who can design me a similar tattoo. Just LOVE it! I don’t have any tattoos yet, so I can’t say how the lace this artist did will hold up. But I truly love it just as it is, and hope I can get one which will hold up too
That first one with the "head slices".. it really bugged me. Style was fine, tattoo was fine (although I do agree with ponys critique points), but that was not one head that was just sliced up - if you put it all together, I mean. The slice with the nose on it. It just doesn't line up. The bag under the eye, width of the nose, viewing angle of the nose... to a lesser degree, the ear I know it doesn't take away from the tattoo at a glance, and it might just be my ADHD artist brain that can't stop poking at it. But yea.. it bugs me
mayb ban the commentor neytiri at the bottom spamming the comment section? Srsly whoever it is clearly doesnt understand that spamming multiple messages in one vid is pure cringe
So I really have no idea how tattoos work, I have a mistake that was made at 18 and its hideous. I think they just gave me the dude on his first day.... BUT, for that lace/rose/gem tattoo, would some minor lazer removal on the lace help thin those lines and make it look more delicate? Do you think lazer could be used as a tool in that type of way?
@PonyLawson for the one In the first critique, how come, you wouldn’t use a soft edge they considering where the light source is coming from why would you want to have a thick outline all around if you’re going for a more realistic design. Is it because you want longevity of the tattoo and that would look better instead of what is correct? Thanks! - new tattoo artist been working at a shop for 6 months, did a. 1 year apprenticeship
The outline of an object is still an outline on your skin, no matter where the light comes from. Even if it’s a thin black line, it makes it look so much cleaner. Maybe you could just try it out with some of your designs in Procreate, add an outline and see how it looks.✌🏼
At 45 I got a black widow over my heart. At 72 she's a tarantula. I love spiders!!! The widow was a tribute to a spider we had at the bottom of our stairs which scared the s$%t out of 18 mo old me. She never hurt me and I got over it.
