I'm a doctor and it is effing nuts that people are getting an anaesthetic for a tattoo. Anaesthesia is super safe but not completely risk free so its wild to me that this is offered, just not ethical imo
It's unnecessary risk. Is it done with an anesthesiologist? Do they have a doctor, a crash cart and a team of nurses there to help you if need be? Were they monitoring his vitals? It just looks like a bunch of bro dudes there.
Hi, medstudent here. I absolutely agree that getting put under for a tattoo is insane. But it does kinda fall under the same umbrella as other elective cosmetic procedures (like a rhinoplasty that's done without a clinical reason). And those are quite normalized. I don't know what to think about that honestly.
I think it should be illegal for bigger tattoos. I’ve seen people get full back pieces and sleeves in one session, imagine waking up to that without having some powerful painkillers like OxyContin to keep your mind of the pain. The body is probably in shock as well and risk of infection or other complications, that poor immune system would be working overtime! Must be super complicated to heal even if it goes well. I’m the type of guy that prefers to do as little as possible per session, within reasonable measure.. I like to do outlines first and let them heal, before doing more detail or fading/colouring. Not a fan of possibly overworking the skin, and it makes sense this way… makes it A LOT easier to get clean work done… however it’s obviously very impractical for most people, where the mindset is as quick as possible, as much as possible…
That's because they're used to getting what they want, when they want it. And guess which artists are available right then and there for them? Not the great ones
I don't think I'd ever want to get a whole body tattoo that fast, even if it was painless because I was under anesthesia... just.... imagine the healing process, what a nightmare that must have been. I'll stick to one part at a time with some pain thank you. 😅
That’s my thought as well. The healing sure won’t be so easy . I imagine it’d be better to let a large piece heal as you collect the pieces rather than all at once . Like a crazy bad full-body burn
And ....how did he sleep ? 😂 always on the side I guess. And really...it would be cheaper to go in steps. My back is fully covered and I paid a small small percentage of this....nontheless, everyone can do what he/she wants as long as they don't hurt others - only themselves here 😅
I thought I was crazy when people were hating on MGK’s tattoo bc I saw it and immediately loved it! I don’t like black out tattoos but it looks so artistic on him and suits him sooo well!
I met Kid Rock about 20 years ago at his former guitarist's wedding and sat next to him at the reception. He had a winged "American badass' tattoo on his back that I got to examine closely and was amazing! I'd be curious to see how it's aged over the years. Edit, I just looked it up online and it's interesting how memory can't be trusted. I recall it being more of an Egyptian wing motif and I couldn't have been more wrong. It's an eagle. Well I can't remember what I had for dinner last night so that checks.
As someone who has issues with being under anesthesia, where my blood pressure drops extremely low 60/25. I’ve never had an issue prior to last year, and last two reactions were a surprise. Death or injury due to lack oxygen isn’t worth a tattoo, because you’re afraid of pain or impatient that you wanted it all at once.
Have hand tattoos that were hand poked very well about 12 years ago. And while they are a bit cloudy, you can still definitely tell what they are and the ink it still definitely reading as black. If you are considering getting little decorative hand tattoos like dots and lines - maybe consider - and do your research - getting them hand poked by someone who knows their stuff of course.
Thanks for sharing this!! I’ve wanted a couple smaller tattoos but have held out due to blow out risk. My sons name blew out over a bone while the rest of the tattoo didn’t and that was the most important part.
I would never be anesthetized for a tattoo. Getting a tattoo is about the experience. It's also dangerous to be put under, far more risky than being inked.
To be a good tattoo artist you have to be heavily critical imo. I’ve had the same tattoo artist for all of my 9 tattoos. I absolutely love his work and every time I walk into his shop for an appointment, the design he draws up drastically exceeds my expectations and hold up very well. Dude’s a tattoo genius and like many other top level artists is very critical of the work other artists do. It’s not just about putting ink in skin. There are countless factors from design to execution that go into a solid tattoo. I dislike over 95% of tattoos tbh and I’m so grateful I found an artist whose style is exactly what I was looking for, is such a cool dude, and never misses.
Another great critique. I didn't know MGK was getting a blackout tattoo. Interesting. I have a couple new tats and I've been using the Mad Rabbit repair soothing gel on the new ones. It works like a charm.

My fingers ink looks like the day I got it done - and I love them just as much today as I did the day I got them. Ask yourself how many of their Tattoos are Fake? How many just Reapply the same Fake Artwork every time they're on Tour and these Tattoos wash off in 1 to 1.5 Months?
Celebrity and athlete tattoos tend to be bad because theyre usually free. Someone from their home town or country asks them if they want a free tattoo and they say yes most of the time for the same reason the "artist" offers said free tattoo.
I don't think I'd go under for any tattoo. Apart from wanting to enjoy the process, which includes the pain, I'm just not interested in being knocked out/unaware of what someone is doing to my body. Top surgery was enough of that.
“As a tattoo artist you need to be able to draw in order to create your own art and not copy others” meanwhile you pay 200k to get another person’s design lol 3:46
Please ask yourself, how many of your favorite Celebrities, Musicians and Actors have Fake Tattoos? Warner Music would have us get Indian Ink and Fake Tattoos for Tour and these Fake Tattoos would wash off in 1 Month and this was all too Common in the 1990's and 2000's. Who's Tattoos are real now? 🤔
Getting put under for a tattoo means you lose a good part of the tattoo process. I love a good natter with my artist. I say that a week before a full day chest session tho. May have a different option next week 😂
I don't care if people want to spend an extra however many thousands to pay an anesthesiologist and sleep through their tattoos. Not my money or my body. But I don't need to do that. I don't need numbing cream either. But my last several tattoos I could have slept through and the only reason I didn't was not knowing the etiquette and if it would worry the tattooist.
Blows my mind that people are willing to get put under to get a tattoo and I'm seeing it become more and more popular for those who are willing to sell out ridiculous money for it. The risk is not ever worth the reward. Also, tell me how the fuck you're able to sleep after getting a FULL front and back tattoo. The shear amount of pain once you wake up and your pain receptors start firing again? Though I'm sure a famous rapper probably had access to some strong drugs.
I never understood how celebrities/musicians, and pro athletes got shitty tattoos… I mean I bet there are some of the world’s best artists out there that would tattoo them for free and they still manage to go to a shit shop
I don’t want to sound like a dumbass, but the pain associated with getting a tattoo is part of the process. It’s a rite of passage and you come out with a piece on your body that you earned that no amount of money can really quantify in the end. Going under and avoiding the entire ritual just doesn’t sit well with me as a collector.

Is it dangerous to get that much work at once? I mean that's a big injury
Ok….
Here is a question…
Let’s go deep….
We all know celebrities have bad tattoos in general….
But why?!?!
WHY!?
You should do Justin Bieber
Total anesthesia is not without risks. Undergoing it for a purely elective cosmetic procedure seems incautious, to say the least.
Blows my mind that people are willing to get put under to get a tattoo and I'm seeing it become more and more popular for those who are willing to sell out ridiculous money for it. The risk is not ever worth the reward.

MGK is fine, not sure why all the hate. He been putting out bangers of songs and tattoo looks a lot better than his older ones like you said.
Anesthesia is so dangerous. Even Kanye's mom didn't survive cosmetic surgery. I wouldn't do that for a tattoo
She died the night after surgery. Not during
"Inside of her glovebox" .... sus
Why is it necessary to go under? Why not local anesthesia?
It'll make the skin swollen and irregular.
I never understood how celebrities/musicians, and pro athletes got shitty tattoos… I mean I bet there are some of the world’s best artists out there that would tattoo them for free and they still manage to go to a shit shop
The Japanese associate tattoos with the yakuza (893), so be mindful… 😅
imagine wanting a tattoo but can't commit to it or need fucking be put to sleep to handle it.
If I had the money I wouldn't be put under. I would go the best artist possible to get the highest quality possible.
When it comes to anesthesia, absolutely fucking not!
I think MGK meant hyperbaric oxygen chamber not hyperbolic.
