The name #Jatayupara comes from the #sanatandharma history #birdJatayu. In the Hindu Ramayana, Jatayu was a giant vulture-like bird who tried to rescue #goddess #Sita from King Ravana.
Legend says that Jatayu fell on the rock after Ravana clipped his wings while fighting.
Rama granted "#moksha" to Jatayu for his valiant efforts.
The place became known as "Jatayumangalam", which over time became Chadayamangalam, and the peak became Jatayupara.
The Jatayu Earth's Center Nature Park is about 38 km (24 mi) away from Kollam and 46 km (29 mi) away from Thiruvananthapuram. The park opened to visitors on August 17, 2018.
It features the world's largest bird sculpture, which is of Jatayu. The sculpture measures 200 feet (61 m) long, 150 feet (46 m) wide, and 70 feet (21 m) in height.
It took 10 years to construct.
