I've been feeling really guilty for reading fiction books because I'm a law student and everyone around me always say that I should spend my time with law books and fiction is a waste of time, etc. So, this video makes me feel really happy. I love the phrase "read what you love until you love to read". Thank you for the tips and for helping me reassure that I'm not wasting my time by doing something I love!
My ADHD makes it super difficult to read books these days and if I do get around to it I have to read every sentence 3 times, but you (and Spotify including them in their plans lol) have motivated me to get into audiobooks recently and I’m smashing through them now so thank you!
Wait, you can literally listen to audiobooks? I can only listen when I focus on listening to audiobooks, otherwise it would be part of the background noise lol.
@@reincarnate3440 yeah I listen to loads of podcasts and so when I listen to audiobooks I can focus on them in a similar way, I have to be doing something menial at the same time though lol but there’s always chores to do!
Agree. In addition to being able to understand completely abstract words of other people it just lifts you to 100 levels up in comprehension of any book.
It's truly magical how reading something u r intrinsically interested in makes reading as a whole better, so I can really resonate with the first quote that was brought up!!
Here are some additional tips 🤎 - Create a reading habit - Set goals (even if it's just one page) - Create a reading schedule - Set a timer (to combat distraction) - Turn off the internet on your phone - Find the right environment - Find out what is keeping you from reading more (and try to improve) Huge fan of reading multiple books at the same time. :)

I've never liked reading as a hobby, but lately I've been feeling wanting to start reading books. Yesterday, December 15, my psychology professor, Wallis Back, gave me a book as a gift, Talk to Strangers by Matt Dahlia (one of the co-founder of Yes Theory), after giving her my answer sheet for my final exam. Today, I began reading the book to want to read. I've read about 10 page so far, but I'm liking I so far. Thank you for your awesome video! I always enjoy watching them!
I've just pre-ordered your book in the US. Thank you for all the value you provided us over the past few years, and I'm happy to support you as a thank you token. Good luck, and I hope that you make the bestseller list!❤
2:45 I gave up reading the millionaire mindset last year and then I picked it up a few months ago and actually finished it. I definitely find this method helpful. Start a book. Don't finish it. And then pick it up again or never. It's fine.
The two tips I resonate the most with are; Don't feel the need to finish a book and use audiobooks to 'get through' tougher reads. I never would have read a brief history of time if i didn't listen to it as an audiobook. Im so glad that I did!. It was really fascinating but there are so many points where I just would not have pushed through. There is one part of the book about quarks or whatever they are called. You have upquarks and down quarks. I would not have been able to get through that section as a reader, but through listening it just gets said to you. I think people feel a duty to finish a book as well because they think that is the best way to get all the value out of it. We don't apply that to TH-cam videos as you say. So why we apply it to books ill never know.
I've never set a reading goal, but because I enjoy reading, I usually read over a hundred books a year, I tend to read about 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening and also read while I'm on the treadmill or stationary bike (makes the workout easier). Most of the books I read are via the Kindle app on my iPad. I do read some paper books and listen to books on Audible. There are seasons when I don't read as much, but it never lasts. Sometimes I'm more into fiction, at at other times, I'm find myself reading nonfiction. Fiction, of course, is easier unless (sometimes) it's serious literature. This year I'm closing in on 150 books for 2023. Thanks, Ali, for emphasizing the importance of reading on your channel.
I've always wondered why I have this rule where I have to finish a book before I start a new book and ended up grinding myself to finish it. Glad to know I am not the only one. Love these great action points here!! I now will give myself the permission to read books I do enjoy and take a pause on the books I stop enjoying.
Until I was 16 (now 32), I didn't read any books because it was boring. A few years later, I tried to read one or two books a year but could not finish. Recently, I came across your channel, and it made a great impact on me, and I'm trying to build a habit that could help me to read more books. Thank you for your advice!
I am never tired of reading Robert Adams' "Silence of the Heart" book, and I am always excited to delve into its wisdom. I truly enjoy exploring spiritual literature by great authors such as Eckhart Tolle, Adyashanti, Mooji, Sadhguru, and Anam Thubten and... However, "Silence of the Heart" holds a special place for me; it brings me genuine happiness. Blessings to the soul of whoever recommended it to me!
Oh mennnnn....quiting a book was the hardest one yet for me. Couldn't feel like I have really added another one to my tier without doing it cover to cover. But the 7 habits of highly effective people changed everything for me. It's the first one I decided to give up on (I'm so sorry Stephen). The vocabulary was just too intense and rigourous for me. Felt like I was ploughing through and not enjoying. So I just watched the summary and it helped. Another tip is not to be shy to repeat books that you feel really had a very large impact on your life. I like to call these the books that center you. Current read. A really underrated book I found on gumroad of all places called Better You by a mysterious author named twelve ( he challenges anyone who was reading actively to decipher his name from the book-i think that's neat) anywho. I highly recommend yall enter 2024 with this little gem. It's like most of self help all in one but in an organised format and with a plan. Lastly let's all be readers that respect what we read by acting upon it. Thanks for sharing Ali Peace.
Great vid! Just want to share that if you want to read more but don't want it to become an expensive habit, get your books second hand - charity shops have a great selection and they're usually super cheap plus you're supporting a good cause. Oh I’m excited to read Murtagh for continuing the Eragon dragon book series. This advice is spot on. You can have empty fun books along side the meaty books. Just have fun
I am currently in love with reading because I started asking myself what movies and series I am usually watching. Then I started looking for and reading the same books and now I am an addict! I would suggest starting with something like romance or novels, and find those 2 genres in whatever way you like. For example crime novels.
Pro tip, don’t be afraid to skim. I started and finished “$100 startup” this afternoon. You can’t do that for every book but definitely most business and personal growth books. Not every word is necessary just get the key ideas and pick up some quotes and move on to the next book. Also I almost exclusively get all of my books from half priced books and buy used on amazon
My trick is using my insomnia. Reading helps to put my mind at ease and actually helps me get an hour or two more than I would trying to sleep on my own. I FLY through books at night since there's very little distraction. During the day, I'm constantly picking it up and putting it down, so it's easier to knock out huge chunks at night. I use library books too since there's a "deadline" (I don't stress myself out about it though). I started reading in July and have 18 books read so far this year. It was a slow start since I was only buying one or two books a month. Since going to the library, I've averaged about 3 books every 2 weeks or so.
Now loving reading on ipad mini. Can use the apple pencil to highlight and then the kindle app I can reread my highlights only. Find that I am reading a lot faster on it too than the physical book...not sure if it is because I am not overwhelmed with the entire book in my hands and thinking "oh my so much more to go", consistently of lighting, easier to read font, or the gamification aspect of wanting to swipe vs page turn. of course there is also convenience factor of so many books in small form factor too.
You have inspired me! I LOVE books, buy every recommendation but rarely make time to read. I tend to be a slower reader so I can get frustrated. I love audible but also love taking notes and highlighting my books! I am going to get your new book and am hoping to use it for my quarterly “book club” in my membership, BE. Confident Wealthy Empowered. Thank you! (Loving your videos too!)
I love the concept of having multiple books on the go at once. I saw a post a few days ago about having a Meal book and a Snack book on the go at all times. Meal book: Meaty book that deep dives into an area you really want to learn more about. You need to carve out time for these types of books as they need a lot of attention. Snack book: Something just to pass the time. Usually a fiction book, that you can just pick up and read at any random point throughout the day, without needing to pay too much attention.
The quitting books idea SO WORKS. I was rereading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley over the summer because I was assigned it in Grade 10 (I'm now a third year university student) and I never actually got around to finishing it, I just read chapter summaries and so I could get the paper I had to write on it over with and then had to return the book. The premise was always very cool so I bought the book because I got into reading this year for leisure after not having read a book since high school. It was my 5th book of the year and I just could not finish it because of how wordy it was. I was stuck on it for about 2 months then I finally decided I'd just take a break on it and get to this other book I really wanted to read and I finished the other book in about 2 weeks (that's fast considering my average time currently is about a month since it's still not a habit yet).
Can you make a video on reading? Reading silently vs reading out loud vs reading without the mental tape repeating the words in your mind as you read etc. healthy habits around that.
One of the biggest lessons I learned to read consistently, is to remember that reading isn’t supposed to be pretty and aesthetic. You just pick it up and read. That perfect environment of snuggling up with hot cocoa just to read is never gonna actually come. So just pick up the book and read, wherever you are
Nice video, I'm trying to read at least 20 pages of a personal development book, now I'm reading the 4h workweek, I'm enjoying it, but it's dificult to take the reading's habit
I want to read The Cinder Spires, the first book The Aeronaut’s Windlass, by Jim Butcher. If you like whimsical fantasy, then pick up Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files. I highly recommend to The Dresden Files on Audible because Spike, James Marsters, is the narrator or, and he is really good. Currently, I am trying to finish The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store, but keep getting interrupted by my mother who I am visiting for the holidays, or my husband. Then my brother comes in and turns on some weird program on the TV. So with my AuDHD, I am like unable to continue reading. Unless I hide somewhere, then I get my mom coming in asking if I am okay every 15 min, or my husband coming in to talk excitedly about some computer game he is playing.
I borrow from the library (Libby audiobooks). I only buy physical books if the library doesn’t have it, I read, then donate. Audible, sometimes Kindle.
Thank you so much for this awesome content! I've been struggling with reading for years, was stuck on books like chores and enjoyed some along the way. Just bought your book, can't wait to read it ! Keep it going Ali, enjoy your life as a Digital Nomad, you're such an inspiration. 👍
❤❤❤this...Thanks so much, Ali. Infact, my greatest joy is to look at the stack of unread books on my nightstand. 📚 Reading is something that I savour. Your tips will help even more.🤩
I was never a big audiobook person, but since getting an Apple Watch I’ve found them to be great for winding down before bed. While my ereader’s screen isn’t bad to use before bed because it’s warm and eink etc, I still prefer to be able to close my eyes soon after getting into bed. Audiobooks are great ways to ‘read’ fiction I find too. Non-fiction I’d rather read and be able to highlight, but I’ve been reading great books as audiobooks and at the same time not worrying if I tune out for half a minute or so
I’m so tempted to order a Kindle, but I have an IPad 12.9 inch…it’s pretty big but I still take it everywhere. Would you recommend getting the kindle regardless?
First i would start with atomic habits bcz it's something that every person on this planet including me needs. Changing bad habits to good Would be the first step to your success......
Am I the only one who wishes to know a list of all the books Ali has read? Or at least, most of them. It would feel like I would go through the same learning journey. Ali and team I don’t know if you see this, but I’d LOVE to see a list of, I don’t know, 100 books Ali has read. Pre-ordered the book btw! ❤
I like your tip to put it down because it wasn’t right for you at that time. I put down Brave new world 5 years ago… picked it up last week and finally finished it in four days 😂I couldn’t get past the initial repetition, but finally forced myself past it.
Douglas Adams coined many words we use now. Ballycumber is the pile of books beside your bed. I now think of this as both a physical and digital combo. What is in everyone's ballycumber?
Thank you for this video! Also I want to ask something. What should I do when I stop reading some book for a while and then I want to start reading it again? Should I start the book from the beginning or should I start where I left?

I use Thrift. Books or Discover - used books. I still can’t put a novel down. Endings are often surprising and I’ve been rewarded many times. Just read Demon Copperhead. Amazing! I read a more literary book alternate with a lighter read. I’m a slow reader but read about 30 books a year. No stress it’s my time to relax and enjoy myself! Thx Ali. You’re amazing. & I’m a morning brew fan
Dont get obsessed with how many book u read. It's about the books u choose and how they benefit u. Read/listened to 15 books this year. 100 is too much and u will end up skimming most of them
i used to dislike reading until i read rich dad poor dad book but the cashflow quadrant one, the way that book change my mind like 360 degree, it makes me more interested on reading some more life-changing and self-improvement books because the school wouldn't teach us just like what these books has been teaching us
Hey Ali, I noticed that your Home Screens are setup intentionally to reduce screen time and increase productivity. Could you make a video that explains your thought processes behind how you set them up this way, and why you set them up this way? Right now I have different focuses for my personal, and Rideshare, and door to door sales. So I just switch between. It seems you have business and personal on different home pages. I’m curious how you utilize the focuses alongside the pages to organize and maximize the efficiency of you’re phone
I really have the tendency of forcing myself to finish a book. I think there must be something valuable from the book, even if it’s just one sentence. But this approach wasted me so much time. It’s better to quit book IMO. Thanks Ali for this amazing video.

Your videos always help me to be productive
Bought on audible because you are one of my favourites TH-camrs and I want to support you :)
Most exciting book for me- Days at the Morisaki Bookshop.
I'm reading Babel by R F Kuang and it's really helping me back into reading again!
Thank you for sharing this video!
I am using your channel to practice my english. A hug from Brazil
So just pick up the book and read, wherever you are
wow thanks ❤ you're one of my biggest inspiration to start a channel on TH-cam 💕
almost 5 million subs, good job bro
Nice video, I'm trying to read at least 20 pages of a personal development book, now I'm reading the 4h workweek, I'm enjoying it, but it's dificult to take the reading's habit
lol, just instantly starting in the Video. Ali you are awesome...just jumping to the tips of the video.
Advance Congratulations to 5 M subscribers from Pakistan ❤
Road to 5m!!!!
Super excited for you Ali, thank you for always giving us valuable content
I borrow from the library (Libby audiobooks). I only buy physical books if the library doesn’t have it, I read, then donate. Audible, sometimes Kindle.
2:17 I mean if it's an Ali Abdaal video I am watching it to the end. No option of clicking out 😂
this is the best thing for the new year...
This channel is so cozy and helpful 🙏 thank you!
Ali, I must say, I'm so glad you found your way back. Money and greed are really the plague of our society. Welcome back buddy.
Hey you should do a video suprising a subscriber with a stationary collection
Attomic Habbits, I want to read again and again.
Thanks, Ali. Loved this video.
Reading is something that I savour.
Non-fiction I’d rather read and be able to highlight, but I’ve been reading great books as audiobooks and at the same time not worrying if I tune out for half a minute or so
Great stuff as always Ali!
I’m so tempted to order a Kindle, but I have an IPad 12.9 inch…it’s pretty big but I still take it everywhere. Would you recommend getting the kindle regardless?
Tip 7... Great! I completely forgot I had a Kindle and an amazon account with unread books on it. I put it on charge straight away.
Feel good productivity is the book I’m most excited for
Sir any lecture on how to learn language easily
First i would start with atomic habits bcz it's something that every person on this planet including me needs. Changing bad habits to good
Would be the first step to your success......
he's made several videos going through books he's read.
I think you can find his account on GoodReads?
He made several videos, also has a Goodreads profile.
I like your tip to put it down because it wasn’t right for you at that time. I put down Brave new world 5 years ago… picked it up last week and finally finished it in four days 😂I couldn’t get past the initial repetition, but finally forced myself past it.
So I am getting back into the habit of reading. Should I get the physical copy or a kindle??
Douglas Adams coined many words we use now. Ballycumber is the pile of books beside your bed. I now think of this as both a physical and digital combo. What is in everyone's ballycumber?
I love this channel I learned so many things that change my life 👍😍💯🙏
Thank you for this video!

Ali: "Just buy any book recommended to you." 10 seconds later... "here's the book I wrote,"
Dont get obsessed with how many book u read. It's about the books u choose and how they benefit u.
Read/listened to 15 books this year. 100 is too much and u will end up skimming most of them
The book that I will love to read is " Money psychology "
i used to dislike reading until i read rich dad poor dad book but the cashflow quadrant one, the way that book change my mind like 360 degree, it makes me more interested on reading some more life-changing and self-improvement books because the school wouldn't teach us just like what these books has been teaching us
Hey Ali, I noticed that your Home Screens are setup intentionally to reduce screen time and increase productivity.
