As a Swede who grew up during the 90's and 00's, In Flames and At The Gates are very close to my heart.
Walking home in the dead of night in a cold, almost dystopian urban landscape with nothing but my thoughts, the cold air in my lungs and In Flames blasting at max volume were some of my most cherished moments.

There's something truly magical about this Sticky Fingers performance they did in 2004. I mean let's be real, In Flames from the Jester Race to Clayman era was a magical thing. Some would include Lunar Strain in that too but for me, Jester Race was their first album that truly floored me and really opened my eyes to this genre of metal. I still like and appreciate all of their albums up to about A Sense of Purpose but after that, I wasn't really invested anymore.
In my teens and 20s, I fucking lived and breathed this band. I went to as many shows as I possibly could whenever they were in the northeast US, and they were always phenomenal. By FAR they put on the best live show of any metal band I've ever seen live. Let's put it this way: I even went to one show where they had to have last minute fill-ins for BOTH Jesper and Bjorn. I was devastated when I found out because it was a last minute deal, but they didn't cancel the show and even without the most important pieces of the band, they STILL crushed it and put on an unforgettable performance. That's how good this band was back then.
If I had to pick just one song for them to perform live, it's Colony. This song is just so much better live than it is on the album, and if you've ever been to an In Flames show back in the day when Jesper was still in the band, and they played this song, you know exactly what I mean. The intro riff is so epic and powerful sounding with how they harmonize it, and then when they break into the next riff at 2:55, it's just instant goosebumps and head banging for me. It's spontaneous, exactly like it was for you here lol. It's not a complicated riff by any means, but it's so heavy and groovy with the drums, and how Anders carries his scream over it after it starts...perfection.
If you were one of the lucky 400'ish people who got to be at this gig @ Sticky Fingers, you witnessed something truly magical, there's no other way to describe it. The rest of us will happily settle for the DVD though lol.

    @Jasperr23 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Man, this is so spot on. This lineup was the best In Flames ever was and ever will be. This video sent me straight back to high school too, playing the riffs on guitar and seeing them live for the first time when I was 16.
Jesper leaving was the killer; his riffs were so much a part of the identity of the band. Listen to his opening riff of Karma by the band Cyhra. It's like you're listening to Clayman-era In Flames.
Colony, Whoracle, The Jester Race and Clayman are virtually unparalleled, and are among the best, most influential metal albums in their era.
    In Flames post-Reroute absolutely blows.

hehe right he should urgently do something of Dark Tranquillity. fun fact Anders frieden was next to Mikael Stanne founding member of Dark Tranquillity. Since In Flames didn't have a singer for their first album Lunar Strain they asked Mikael and so he was the "first" singer of In Flames before Anders changed to In Flames.
In Dark Tranquillity Mikael had played guitar first and Andres was the vocalist on the album Skydancer. and then Anders joined In Flames and Mikael took over the vocals in DT.
I think it was the best thing that could happen that In Flames and Dark Tranquillity swapped the singers. XD

In Flames was one of the first bands that got me into underground metal and death metal type stuff back in I believe 1999. It was In Flames first, then Hypocrisy, then Amorphis back in the day as the first 3 and shortly after that Dark Tranquillity and Night In Gales, then around 2000, Soilwork, Arch Enemy, At The Gates, and finally in 2001 Opeth, who would become my favorite.
Another band that I got into around 2000- 2001 was Cave In, who are way underrated and I never see anyone review them. I thought they were the best metal core band in the early 2000s, changed to an alternative rock style, and switched to a style mixing the two.
I loved the Old melodic death metal bands like In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Night In Gales, Soilwork the most though. Classic stuff.

That riff before the first pause really reminded me of Tier by Rammstein. I wonder if they were inspired by it. Although it is a pretty standard riff, so could just be coincidence.

Ooh man, I Still remeber when i heard In flames THE first time. I was going home from THE music store after just randomly picked som CD;s. I put Sounds of a playground fading in THE var. I remeber looking at THE cover when hearing that aqustik intro wondering what THE f?! And then som guitarrs and drums before THE song really started. I was hooked, really hooked. Still to this Day i have not heard all their album. Just to save that moment of THE first feeling hearing in flames

WoW, I'm from Gothenburg but I did not know that Sticky Fingers had to close, my mothers cousin is a drummer in the band Ailen (most known for a cover of "Only one Woman" by Marbels. Last time I watched them live was live at Sticky Fingers.

Man! In Flames is the first metalcore band I started to like, it was 20 years ago!
I still have "A sense of purpose" DVD edition, and I even bough "Come Clarity" twice because I lost it.
I listened to the 2020 remastered Clayman album, and it's great, you might want to give it a go!

I used to be a huge In flames fan, but then Sounds of a Playground Fading, Siren Charms and Battles happened. Just compare this song to something like Rusted Nail or Monsters in the Ballroom, which aren't bad songs by any means, they just don't sound like they're from the same band.
Last time I've seen them live on a festival in 2019, they were the last or 2nd to last act of that day. They were playing lots of songs from Battles and I'm not shitting you, towards the end of the concert some people were actually boo-ing them or leaving early. Dunno if they noticed or those were on the short setlist all along, but then they played The Mirror's Truth and Cloud connected and everyone including me was going nuts 🤘
Their latest album has some of that old sound again which I really like.

This was interesting as hell as this is actually the first song of In Flames that I have really listened to. I cannot say when I heard the band for the first time, but I must have done it at one time or another - surely?
There are probably several reasons for all this, but the main one is IMHO that we have enough metal of all genres here anyway. So Swedish (and Norwegian) metal doesn’t get that much exposure in Finland - at least so that it would be widely known. Here Sweden is more known for its dance, pop, and some “rock” like Kent.
Nevertheless, a good performance with an excellent ambiance! However, can’t say that I fell in love with the band - at least yet. Sorry!

Damn that is a good riff.
Love In Flames. Or at least the older stuff.
In the year 2000 it was the shit with Soilwork, At the Gates and Dark Tranquility!

This whole perfomance is an album on it's own. The mixing. Better done Reroute To Remain songs, others might be even better than album versions. I certainly consider the majority ti be the definitive versions.

Ah, In Flames. Can't be a Swede without loving at least a few of their songs. 😁 I was a bit late to the In Flames scene, too immersed in Linkin Park and the likes back in the day. But Delight and Angers still is on basically each and every one of my playlists.

Oh boy, back in the day when In Flames were good. No, scratch that: they were amazing in their time up to and including Come Clarity. I have watched every tour, basically every year, and the amazingness of their fresh and intense metal was just without equal.
And ever since the day that Jesper left (had to leave?) the band they have been on a downward spiral. No wonder that Daniel and Peter left at some point as well. The last amazing show was the farewell tour to Daniel, and I have seen them on a few festivals after, but it's just a shadow of their former selves.
    *sigh*
The band of my youth. I'm sad now, listening to old tunes.

Follow the hollow on background at the "outro" =) Good music all a around.. I liked the clad in shadows from lunar strain album more than later Flames... but in the end we got the Classic Flames albums till clayman that i see the last good flames album from cover to cover and to on top of that.. we have Dark Tranquility as well ... so better for metal fans that original flames split up , and we got 2 great bands to listen.

Inflame is the band on my bucketlist to see.

Off topic. Falling in Reverse just released a “Revamped” version of their song I’m Not A Vampire. The OG song was off the same album as The Drug In Me Is You. It’s incredible. It won’t let me post the link in my comment 🤷🏻‍♀️

I loved to hang at Sticky Fingers.
Worked around the corner in "Rockbaren" in the 90's.
Sticky Fingers had a max capacity of less than 400 if i remember correctly.
But they could cram in 1000 if needed.
