Nice work. I think you'd happier with the finish and performance of a silver soldered or clamped carbide tip and a body material that has a lot more flex; like mild, stainless or spring steel. I know I was. I'm guessing you were just practicing on that tool block as I can't think of reason to scrap one. Also I much much thinner bluing on the plate will yield a lot better print for you. Good job hope to see more scraping!
Most woodturning tools now are m2, m4, m42 high speed steel or a CPM alloy and should make a good shank for a scraper. A 1/8 inch flat sided cutoff tool would be my first choice because the shape is nearly ideal.
That's not a bad idea, how often do you have to sharpen the HSS? 'coz for people asking, you could always clamp a smaller piece of HSS in the scraper, like they do with carbide. A piece of HSS that long might be hard to find
Man, you are good! I'll be making this tool so I can use it while following your mini lathe scraping video where you used it, once I find the HSS blank...
Maybe from online you could use a big bastard file though they say but im afraid before you could grind it to shape and angle you would expose the soft steel for case hardened file
Great choice in music!!!!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
