I love this tempo, which shows another facet of Bruckner's works. Just my opinion, I don't see the point of dragging to a broader tempo just because of "Bruckner".

I guess I’m extremely used to the Karajan recording I have, and the tempo my choir is taking for our concert on May 1st, but this is VERY fast for Te Deum, I feel. The entire piece is being performed so fast. You blink and you miss the intricacies of each movement. It’s lovely but I feel a lot of the point of the piece was missed at this tempo.

I agree while also disagreeing with your comment, of course a slower tempo really brings out everything about this piece, but at the same time, this faster tempo shown here reflects the historical tempo that Bruckner probably intended it to be played at. As shown by historical records and recordings of late romantic conductors and early 20th century performances, the tempo of pieces such as Beethoven 5th or 3rd illustrate a perplexingly fast tempo, and of course shown in numerous other romantic era composers such as Tchaikovsky and Brahms. There are also historical records of Mahler who conducted his own piece at a very fast tempo that is very unusual at todays standards, his adagietto from his 5th symphony for example was apparently conducted in 7 minutes, while modern recording stretch it out to 9 or even up to 12 minutes. There even exists a recording of Rachmaninoff, playing the Piano solo part of his 3rd Piano concerto at an incomprehensible fast tempo (3rd movement to be exact), of course he is playing his own piece so its really hard to say "he's playing it too fast". But anyways, the tempo that Gardiner takes Bruckner's Te Deum, and in fact his recordings of Bach's pieces I find way too fast as you also said. But at the same time, I believe this is the tempo the composer himself would have envisioned it to be played at.

I watch this version from time to time.
Also, I respect the belief of viewers who don't like fast tempo.
However, my personal point of view is that the tempo of Bruckner's te deum should be
    somewhat faster like this video.
I think this should end with a grand and powerful ending,
    like Mahler's Symphony No.8 .
    I think the meaning of
    ("Non Confundar in Aeternum")
="A chorus of intense and earnest faith"... fades when the tempo slows down.
So, I think Bruckner's te dem should be tempo like this version.

It makes a change to hear Bruckner that may be thought Too fast rather than Too slow. It's exciting but I do feel the tunes are rattled off too get to really get the best out of it. But it does give one a valuable different perception of the work.

With all due respect, a Te Deum is a prayer, here in a church, not a performance or a show. Someone should have advised Ms. Susan Graham to dress appropriately.
