    I especially appreciated your honest, comprehensive, straightforward enumeration of the cons of your setup. Anyone who chooses to duplicate your design can't say you didn't tell them of its potential drawbacks. Good job.

    Cut a slot in the big pipe. roll the tarp from a smaller dowel inside. put a crank on the end.

    I’d like to find a way to have it roll out from a slot in the pvc

    I am going to do pretty similar project this week on my Jeep. Way cheaper than purchasing a new Awning and best for wider tarp set up. Great invention!

    You could always carry to five gallon buckets half way filled with dried concrete also to stay in the city if you wanted

    I would cut pipe 1 to 2 inches longitudinal from one end to other,leaving a few inches uncut on each end, to pul the tarp out from that opening. Would attach an handle on one end of the interior pipe ( one end of the handle would attach with interior smaller pipe and other end coming out of the lid,that you made, through a hole) to roll the tarp back into the pipe. Does it make sense? No! It’s fine it does make sense to me, will make one and will share link here.

    Are use the PVC pipe exactly like you are in the in caps Jula hole in the center of each endcap with a small pipe going through the entire big pipe and cut cut up 1 inch 2 inch opening all the way across the pipe and you can wind the tarp around the pipe that’s inside of the big pipe and the 2 inch slit that you cut. You can make it open and close and then there you go.

    In 3 weeks I will do my first "SOLO" trip, I have a very similar idea for the awning. Just got my 4" inches pvc and I will use 1" inch PVC for the supports, I need to think find a practical way to hang the tarp to 4" inch PVC.

      Hook bolts through the pvc, but open side facing opposite end of vehicle.

    If you have several large juice jugs or milk jugs or two and a half gallon water bottles they can be used in place of tie-down stakes on hard surfaces

    I made something similar to this, but the tarp winds up into the ABS pipe with a DIY crank/handle. Check my video if interested.

    Just watched this one and you're next: th-cam.com/video/_WZRxnhgbxs/w-d-xo.html Thinking adding to those comments, reminds me of the grow lights adjustable hangers instead of the para-cord. Not sure how to set up in city... other than maybe way heavier weights than I'd want to lug around other than maybe five gallon buckets you fill with water? Maybe water would be easier than sand or dirt in the city. Thinking impromptu now using the inspiration and ideas I'm having. Thanks for sharing!

    • @jafinch78
      @jafinch78 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool! Same inspiration video... just heard you saying and saw in the description. I even looked though didn't click show more to verify the video link there... just noticed was different. Reminds me also, I totally forgot I picked up a University Surplus Store projection screen I thought would be perfect for the Prius... other than stowing the stakes of which I'm thinking painters extension poles and/or conduit? Any the grow hangers for para-cord since have already.

    • @jafinch78
      @jafinch78 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I've been wanting to paint Type 1 White Silicone over a tarp to see if can make a more cost effective and water proof longer lasting tarp/canopy also.

    • @jafinch78
      @jafinch78 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      AI just linked me to somewhat what I was envisioning. Here's the link to the video with the above similar design if you're interested since might be a good idea to make easier setup and tear down: th-cam.com/video/Xc93sNdcMAA/w-d-xo.html I might add like a crank socket end on the tail side of some sort to make easier to roll back up.
      I also wonder about the posts being positioned on fixed points on the bottom of the vehicle body or maybe an underframe mount part that can be easily stowed. Then no need for stakes and ropes.
