You are one of the very best TH-cam audio reviewers. I can't afford this gear and I generally prefer reviews that contain music samples so I can at least get a slight impression of how the equipment might sound, even though it's via TH-cam. However, your reviews are so informative and engaging that it's a pleasure to just get swept along with you by your enthusiasm for the products you talk about and the pleasure they will bring the listener.

Hi Kevin the term your looking for is dual concentric when you refer to the tulip wave guide, i used to sell these speakers back in 1975, Tannoy had a range in the the uk called from large to small Ardens, Berkleys, Cheviots, Devons, Eatons, thet were all dual concentric by design yes they are awesome speakers no wonder they were used as studio quality monitors. th then alternative were the JBL series such as the L16, l26, L36 or if you had big pockets the L100 century. Tannoys are very special speakers how ever they wont suit evey body but by god they are worth a very serious listen

My vintage LGMs Little Gold Monitor Tannoys sadly we’re flooded over Christmas and I was crushed. I mixed over 100 Discovery Shows and films with those speakers and they were awesome. So sad to see them dead. But, today I have replaced my beloved LGMs with Eatons and wowzer what a massive sound. Tannoys are the world standard in pro audio monitors. Love my Tannoys. ❤

Believe it or not He's absolutely correct about people in the UK saying "they heard it over the Tannoy"..........in fact today in the UK people will still say they heard something over the Tannoy when some announcement is played over any PA system, in much the same way as we say we are going to have to "Hoover" when we get out a vacuum cleaner.

Hey folks - when I made this video it was a Friday afternoon and I was BEAT TIRED. But I had taken the Eatons from my man-cave at home and didn't want to leave them at the store for the weekend. I wanted to play some tunes!!! So I tried to slog through it. Duh. Made TWO mistakes: Of course, the driver is dual-concentric. The other mistake is the magnet structure is Ferrite, and they have edge-wound voice coils.

I am the proud owner of a pair of Tannoy Legacy Eaton since August and I am looking for the best integrated amplifier (regardless of price) to pair with them. I want something warm, with sweet and non fatiguing highs. I am in Canada and unfortunately will not be able to buy from you but your advice would be greatly appreciated since you have first hand experience with de Eaton.

Yes it is. No one does it better but tannoys older drive units never realised their true potential in the cabs of the day. You can have a great speaker built using something like the hpd315 today which blows away most competition up to 6 grand or more for a fraction of the price.
Alnico isnt as efficient as newer ceramic magnets. Tannoy only went back to alnico for marketing reasons. Hes also wrong about running them on se amps....they dont have the damping factor to control the bass.

I did with a KT88, Tannoy Eaton and Klipsch Heresy IV, if it could help you. The Tannoy have much more refined presentation in regards to the placement of instruments, air, timing coherence and tonal balance. They can retain some dynamics of a horn driver while adding bass and balance. The Klipsch are fun .

Tannoy didn’t invent this type of speaker; the Altec 604 Duplex came out several years before the Tannoy. Western Electric and Jensen also developed such speakers but the Altec was the first commercial design. The 604 is still made by Great Plains Audio, a company founded by the real Altec company’s last head engineer and on the original Altec machinery. One cool thing about the Tannoy is that it uses the woofer cone as the horn loading the compression driver tweeter. Radian is a pro sound company also making coaxial drivers that load the compression tweeter with the woofer cone. Radian drivers are made in the USA; the company has roots in the old “real” Altec Lansing and in Emilar.

I used class A amplifiers, like musical fidelity A2. A220 and A1000, as well as Sugden range. In usa First Watt would perform similar function. I ran vintage Tannoy Cheviots from 1970’s, which employed pepper pot design driver, more expensive to manufacture these days, hence the tulip wave design on ‘lower cost’ tannoy models.
