- This is the band I have been waiting for for YEARS! Today we get out first look at The Halo Effect, featuring members of Dark Tranquility, In Flames, and also ex-members of In Flames. This song brought me back to my youth when I started discovering melodic death metal for the first time. In this video, we break down a ton of gear, talk about the history of the Gothenburg Sound, talk about how all of these band members are connected, and headbang our asses off!

When I recognized the lead singer of Dark Tranquily and the guitarist of In Flames I thought: This is going to be awesome, and it really is.
You and I definitely share experiences when it comes to these guys. I also got heavily into Melodic Death Metal in my early High School years through bands like In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Soilwork, At The Gates and Arch Enemy, and these bands shepherded me into the music I love today. In Flames and Dark Tranquillity were always the two at the top of the pile for me. I bought all of their albums and carried them with me everywhere. Without these bands, I would not have found Ensiferum and started my folk metal journey, or branched out into the Finnish scene and found Children Of Bodom, Norther and Kalmah, which gave me my love of Keyboards and Keyboard solos (which lead directly into discovering my love for Melodic Power Metal). These guys had a profound impact on my life, and I could not be happier that this project exists!
I made the same journey.
Same, man! Without these two bands, and a few others, I would have never discovered Children of Bodom and a lot of other awesome bands from Europe that I got into.

I'm in the same boat aswell, the fact this is a thing just makes me so happy. mid to late 90's melodeath is the shit! Easily some of the best metal in that era!

First metal bands that i listened?, Bodom, In Flames, Dark tranquillity, and many more. As a Finn, Swedish and finnish metal, surely was easy to find, i was so happy to see this band and all the members. And also happy that u finally viewd this ;). DT has always special part in my heart, Therein was song that i was listening when i heard friend on mine has died, still cant liste to that song without tearing
So good to see Jesper back in action ! The man in a legend and for me, one of my favorite riff makers of all time. Honestly it sounds a lot more like DT than IF, BUT it's just the first single so I'm really excited to see what comes next

I remember jamming “Lost to Apathy” on repeat through high school. And seeing In Flames in 2005 was probably the best live show I’ve been to. This is awesome.
Your initial reaction is literally exactly how I reacted to seeing this the first time. As a huge IF fan (tattoos and all) this makes me so happy. Brings back so many memories of every time I got the pleasure of meeting all of these guys!
I just heard this song the other day on Spotify and thought it was badass. I hit the "like" button right away. I had no clue there were members of In Flames in the band. In Flames is one of my favorite bands, so it makes sense that this bands sound immediately attracted me.

I’m so moved by your enthusiasm❤️ Dark Tranquillity was the first melo death band I heard as a teenager and the first chance to channel all those deep, angry and sad feelings and still beeing able to see the beauty in the same music. They were and always will be THE metal band for me. They showed that there truly is beauty and skill in the darker tones too.
I think we share the same excitement dude. I was shaking when I heard about this song! I grew up on this stuff, the melo-death of course, and am just blown away and so excited for the album! Great reaction, and fuck yeah to the head banging, I did it through the while song when I first heard it!!

You know, when Amorphis announced their new album (funnily enough named "Halo"), I immediately was like, "ok, race for best album of 22 decided, case closed". Then five days later, this monster of a song drops (and that they'd do this went completely under my radar), and I guess, case got reopened because of new evidence. This is just awesome, and while I generally prefer the finnish over the swedish bands, I might make an exception for this one. if only because Mikael Stanne just fucking slays. every. single. time.

I was crying as well when I heard it first. These guys were sooooo important in my late teens/early twenties, and all that was just coming back while I was listening to the song.
How did I not learn this was a thing until today!?!?!!? Jesper and Mikael are my favorite and the Gothenburg sound is what got me into metal back in the day

I live about 40 minutes away from Gothenburg. Growing up in the Swedish metal scene was fantastic. Both melodic death metal and black metal. And also Meshuggah! This brought a smile on my face. Nostalgia deluxe. Great review as always bud! ❤️

As someone who grew up in the cold north and blasting In Flames aswell as Dark Tranquility while walking through dark and frozen woods, this gives me nostalgia like you wouldn't even fucking believe.

Last night i had the opportunity and luck to watch live The Halo Effect in Stockholm and hang out with the band after the show. DO NOT MISS it if you have the chance, that was the best thing that happened to me after the birth of my son, it was a life changer, no words to describe the guys, they are so friendly, polite and humble

Tank, i feel so much what you feel. The old music of In Flames, the Jesper periog, was my entire life. This rythm section, Daniel and Peter is very special. Wonderful duo. I also remember the GOTHIC EXPLORER of jesper. If i am not wrong, it was a Gibson explorer with EMG 81/60 pickups. This duo of pickups is also legendary :D

This legit made me tear up, im so fucking happy to hear this shit with so many of my favorite artists. Dark Tranquility made me abolutely love Screamo and Growl (I had been hating it for almost 10 years, then at 15 years of age i heard DT for the first time on Spotify and it opened my entire world! Peter Iwers has been with Jesper at CyHra aswell with Jake E (Former member of my alltime favorite band Amaranthe) And both of them are fucking amazing, Jesper gave me the middlefinger at their Sweden Rock debute and laughed at the same time which made my favorite Festival picture ive ever taken. And Peters restaurant is so friggin amazing that my tastebuds exploded with happines when i tried their food and beer. I dont have much to say about Danne and Niclas but i do love the music theyve made aswell. This is a true fucking SUPERGROUP!

I'm late to the party on this one I've heard in flames and like their music but didn't know the band members. However though I was less familiar with dark tranquility I did get a chance to see them live in 2018,so when I watched this video for the first time I thought that looks like the guy from dark tranquility,but wasn't sure till you said so. I love this song.
This is just awesome. I have been waiting for something like this for years. Í have been an IF and DT fan since 1997. Sadly lost interest in IF after Come Clarity. But this makes me so happy. Getting tickets for the Stockholm show is an absolute must. GBG Melodeath at its finest!
Me and my cousin where heavy in to In Flames when growing up. driving to school in the middle of winter here in Norway. Not one day with out In Flames on full blast.

The band name comes from a Rush song called Halo Effect on their final album Clockwork Angels which is pretty awesome since I heard they're huge fans of the band. Love the song they put out it's kick ass.

I was bit nervous how this will turn out but first taste is a real banger, best songs of the year.
I'm late to the party, knew nothing about this until about 7 hours prior to me writing this.
I have a Google Home speaker with a screen I listen to music on while I'm at work, so its not unusual for me to discover new stuff I really dig... This was different. The moment I heard the vocals, I thought "why does this sound like the vocalist from Dark Tranquility" so I began digging into the history of the project before even finishing the song.
I didn't even grow up around melodic death metal, only discovered it a little over 10 years ago now, but it remains my favorite genre that exists through countless discoveries later.
This makes me ecstatic beyond words - I was already planning on flying to Europe for the Parkway Drive/While She Sleeps show, and then I saw they were playing with Amon Amarth/Machine Head right at the same time... My excitement has never been higher.

This song is a fucking banger. So pumped to hear more from them. The Gothenburg stuff (and melodeath in general) was what got me into heavier metal in high school. Bands like In Flames, At The Gates, Soilwork, Amon Amarth, etc. And I haven't really been a fan of more recent In Flames stuff. This was a treat.

It's been quite a few years since I was this excited about new music. Last time that comes to mind was when The Crown came back from the dead and released Doomsday King and/or when At the Gates went from just doing reunion shows and released At War with Reality.
I was deployed when I first got wind of this band, and I didn't have the means to look into it. I was loosing my mind trying to get info and hear the singles. Your reaction is pretty spot on. This group has some crazy potential to really reinvigorate that sound we've all been missing.

The last time i was this excited for an upcoming album, was with SLAYERS Seasons In The Abyss.
This is a proper smörgåsbord if I've ever seen one. All of my childhood heroes playing together in the genre that got me into metal for real. A lot of tears of pure joy have been shed over the last couple of weeks.
