    Churches should have uniforms so that it doesn't turn into a fashion parade and maybe Batswana understand the difference between going to a church and a party .The bottom line is there are clothes for every occasion❤

    We should always dress moddstly when going to church. No sleevless or very tight dresses. Modesty and reverence are key.

    Corrections.. If you accept so thing or give something with one hand you are being casual. The right way is to use both hands as respect..like you hold the hand giving or taking with another hand underneath.

    If you really practice you can speak in no time. Many people visit other countries and spend years and remain foreigners. Immerse yourself in the culture.
    Culturally we in Botswana use two hands to give or give things. The left hand is frowned upon. It’s just that in towns people are more casual.

      Depends on what circles one moves in I would have thought. Not meaning to boast or anything and I know that Batswana do not have the aristocracy anymore but...I was raised to believe that as an aristocrat from the more ancient village of King Kgama, I should be mindful of this and conduct myself accordingly and that includes my apparel/dress sense.

      Batswana are not as simple as Helen says. Yes we have failed to glamorize our own national attire unlike Nigerian queens but this means that we have adopted the dress sense of the West and trust me, Batswana were buying designer clothes from Italian fashion houses in the 80s when no fashion house would dream of setting up shop in poor Botswana. I remember a neighbour inviting me to her house to come and look at and try a killer suit by an Italian designer. I don't know how she got them from the fashion houses but she was selling them and Batswana were buying them. I suppose it depends on who you meet and it maybe that majority of Batswana who have never traveled dress simply but the well traveled ones, oh my.......

      @@the8thchurch461 granted you are right but for the most part Batswana are simple at heart you wouldn't know someone's rich unless you are told. I mean you can even find a ministers child in a government school. By the way it's a compliment.

    • @the8thchurch461
      @the8thchurch461 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Pk-lx4gh That is not at all true I am afraid. A minister's child at a government school? I doubt very much. My sister's only child, her son, went to the best private kindergarten up to age 6 and this was in the early 80s. That was followed by the top private primary school of the time. When he got to secondary school age, my sister decided that Botswana was not good enough for her son and sent him to a previously white only secondary school in South Africa. When it was time for university education, well, Africa was not good enough for her son and she sent him to England. She herself had been to England to study so thought highly of English education. Yes, we come from the ancient tribe of Bamangwato in Serowe which takes pride in our King being the first president of the country but my sister was not a minister so I highly doubt your claims that a minister's child attends a government school. Infact its very common for government ministers to send their children to private schools followed by Western (U.S.A/U.K) university education. Sorry but your claims are not at all true. Batswana are very ambitious. Not at all simple I am afraid. A friend of mine was sent to an American university by her parents way way way back in the late 80s so, I am sorry but what you are saying is wishful thinking. Maybe its a case of moving in different circles. As for my sister's dress sense, I am still trying to reach her glamour level. She wore suits costing 900 pula and that was way back in the 80s and 90s. She also wore lace e.t.c. The people at her office likened her glamour to that of one of the women in DYNASTY tv series (u.s.a) and that was in the late 80s. I don't know which Batswana you guys meet.

      @@the8thchurch461 I'm not saying they're are no elites in Botswana but for the most part Batswana arr simple? We are talking comparatively here. I don't want to name names but so quiet a lot of ministers kids studied locally. In Botswana your next door neighbor with a hilux could be a multimillionaire. May be things are changing now due to materialism but Batswana are not flashy. Ask yourself how many porsches or ferraris do you see on the roads? Is it because people can't afford them or is it that Botswana does not allow for one to be overly extravagant? Go to other countries and see inequality is.

      @@Pk-lx4gh Again I simply do not believe you that a multimillionaire could drive a hilux. Please. Again, my sister a British university graduate with 2 degrees, was a mere office worker. Basically not a millionaire BUT drive a hilux? You've got to be joking. She was driving a BMW and later on a Mercedes Benz. Look, I don't know about multimillionaires. I don't even know how many Batswana are infact multimillionaires. MAYBE NONE! I don't know. Possibly the reason there are no porsches and ferraris on the roads! That may well explain that. Batswana may well not have reached that level of wealth but I can tell you this. If they were that level of rich, you would have been seeing posches and ferraris on the roads. Batswana's favourite cars that reflected their wealth as early as late 80s and thereafter, were always MERCEDES BENZ and BMW. No ferraris/porches. I doubt there is a single Motswana rich enough to own a helicopter even today because the level of wealth is not at that stage yet. Mercedes benz was the only car that commanded respect. My sister's one was not brand new though. Again, check your facts right. If you are talking about Nigerian or South African type of wealth of Ferraris and porsches, then that is not where Batswana are. Simplicity, no. Batswana love wealth just as much as the next nation. If and when they reach a point where they can afford ferraris and porches, trust me, you won't be able to count them on the road. To be honest, Botswana is not sophisticated enough for porsches and ferraris. Its still very much a developing country. It would be disturbing to see a Motswana driving that type of car. It would look out of place. South Africa or Nigeria? Yes. One step at a time.

    Batswana simplicity is not something to copy. Just "over dress" and educate them about what it means to go to the palace (church) to meet the King. Under dressing is one thing I never liked about our people. It shows disrespect for the House of God and His people. It's interesting how here in England, the royals going to Church equals a fashion show. Batswana need to up their game. Clothes maketh a woman. It's not vanity, it shows self respect and respect for those you are meeting. Please do not copy Batswana and abandon the Nigerian love for queenly attire.

      Hahaha the 8th ooo 🤣 okay I understand where you are coming from but I will still politely disagree with you 🤣😀I would have agreed if we are talking about decency here but NO we are talking about SIMPLICITY which I would love Nigerians to emulate , I know some Nigerians who stopped going to church because they couldn’t meet up with the Nigerian mentality of overdressing before you can fit in, I don’t like that please we should learn to go to church just the way we are and not to compete with who dresses better than others , at the end of the day what God sees is our heart and not our dressing last time I checked nobody will enter heaven because of how they dress but how pure the heart is😆

      @@helengeorgeslifestyle I respectfully disagree Helen! I would be exactly like those Nigerians who stopped going to Church because they rejected simplicity! Good on them. Its called RETAIL THERAPY. Clothes are really therapeutic. They can change your mood and make you feel better. Its not about competition Helen. Its about respecting oneself and those you are going to meet. I can't tell you how people used to appreciate me for "over dressing" when I went to church. It literally made their day and I believe it also inspired them to do better. I could NEVER dress simply anyway. And as I say, if you were going to meet someone important such as the King/Queen, you would make an effort to appear serious and respectful. Clothes reveal the kind of person you are and what you think of others. It shows what is inside your mind. Respect for oneself in how one looks (dresses) translates into how they treat others. I am sorry but dress is connected to behaviour. Anyway, each to their own but simplicity in dress is simply a no no for me.
