Congratulations to Greg for being so generous as to share with us this glimpse into the 19th and the early 20th century lives of rural Vermont farm life.
Further Congratulations to Greg for that stupendous find of both the bottle and its measuring cup lid. That's incredibly rare, and should be treasured.

Brad, I'm 79, been metal detecting since my 20's. Found some bottles one time near Spanish Camp, TX. I still have a complete Dr J. Hostetter's stomach bitters bottle and a Henry Downe's ginger ale bottle. The Downe's bottle has a rounded bottom requiring upside down storage to keep the cork moist.

Bottles are always fun to find! I'm 59 and I used to dig through unofficial dumps as a child and find some interesting items, especially bottles. Sadly, most of the bottles were broken or had been used for target practice(this was in Tennessee). Still was fun to read the embossed pieces and try to figure out their history. I appreciate you sharing your land Greg, and for you Brad, thank you for sharing your adventures and finds!

The 2 piece is awesome! Had a similar experience... found a small, blue glass bottle with no top. About 20 feet away I found an unusual cap; cup shaped. When I got home, I learned they went together. It was an eyewash kit from the 50s. You just never know what the ground will give up.

I also found a John Wyeth bottle & cap, On the lower portion of the neck of the bottle, just above the rim with the numbers, is a groove. An O-ring fit in the groove and allowed the cap to snap on the bottle to secure it. I used an old o-ring I had saved from some long forgotten project, and it fit perfectly and holds the cap in place.

Cool stuff but, no reason to breakout fine brushes and such. When I was a boy there were grocery stores all over the eastern side of the country known as A&P Grocery. Their name proudly displayed on many of the items they sold was The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, and yes they sold tea under their own label too. Loose leaf teas as well as bag tea was and still is a big seller in the Southeastern USA. It was a very nice full service grocery store chain, one of the best ones around back then. I think they shut down about 1970, but could be wrong.

The ground was incredibly wet this day. It had been raining for the past week and this was the first sunny day and we were digging in mud with standing pools of water near by. When we put our shovels in at least a dozen night crawlers would come out of the ground and start moving away from us! We still made some awesome finds but the mud made it hard to see what was embossed on them until they dried up a little and we could wipe the dirt off. The John Wyeth & Bro bottle with cap is one of my favorite finds from all of our digs. It has a great color and design plus how the pieces were found is a unique story by itself!

I love the blue bottle/cap match up. The gin bottle with the fancy neck would look nice filled with dyed water in a window. My mama used to do that with the bottles she found when she was dumpster diving - water and a couple drops of food dye then very carefully set them in a sunny window. We had 4 of them - 3 were kind of square and one had little hexagon squares around the bottom. Don't know what happened to those. I do the same thing sometimes with some of the empty crown royal bottles I got my son to save for me.
