    I have read all kinds of written directions for knitting backwards (or purling backwards, that is), and I always found them to be very confusion. Then along comes your video, and it becomes completely and simply clear. Awesome. Also, you knit very fast!!

    I. Love. Your. Videos! They are clear, easy to follow and never out of focus. Your hands, fingers never hide the "action". Your videos have guided me thru uncharted territory, each time with success. Kudos and planets full of thanks!

    I appreciate that you showed this in Continental Style. As I worked it, I found my left thumb looping the yarn around the needle. I thought someone might be interested.

    Thank you so much. I'm making a shawl and not a huge fan of lots of purls. Now I can knit in both directions! All modified stitches will be done on the normal knit rows. Woo hoo, it's not even that hard after a few passes its feeling pretty normal

    I hope you eventually show how to purl backwards, essentially knitting backwards on Garter stitch. It took me days to find a tutorial and it was an English knitter who had it all goofed up.. I can do it now, but for those who don’t know how to do it on garter stitch fabric, it would help.

    I have found knitting backwards works well if I make a mistake in a cable and drop just the cable stitches and put them on DPNs, then I can reknit just the part I screwed up by using the DPNs to knit up the cable. Have done this when working lace too. But I knit backwards for another reason too: I used to have terrible arthritis in my fingers and when I discovered the reason, that I had a serious dairy allergy, worsened by my getting older, I switched to plant-based milks. No cheese either, but it was better than enduring any more pain.
    After one month being off dairy, I had recovered 75% of the use of my hands. I also was on MoveFree during that time. Don't even need to use it now. I then went back to knitting to rehabilitate my hands the rest of the way. I learned to knit when I was about 7 years old.
    As every style of knitting works different joints and muscles, by changing my knitting styles, I could relieve the soreness in my joints. I just switched, not using my knitting because I did this for therapy but I do use the things I learned if I am getting bored in a pattern, I can change techniques to keep myself more interested. It is also good therapy to keep the mind spry. By my age my father already had Alzheimer's disease, so I always choose a challenging pattern or something I will have to learn or brush up on. Yes, and I seriously watch that I have a healthy diet as my mother and sister died of breast cancer. For that reason I went plant-based totally. Lost weight, feeling fine, and I am 66 now.
    In Europe they teach knitting in primary school and their test scores are better than Americans of the same age. I am sure that knitting has part to do with that, as no matter what age one is, what we do with our hands has to do with a healthy neural net as the surface of the brain controls our hands from what I've read. Knitting is healthy and helps us in many ways, including emotional ways. It is my Zen moment.

    Also when slipping the first stitch on the purl backwards row, slip it with the needle tip coming from the back of the work. Then when you get to the ssk of the gap closing, just knit that stitch and the one from the other side of the gap together and it looks the same as ssk without all the slipping around and the time is a lot less.

    Sure! You just have to switch from knitting backwards to purling backwards. You can totally do it!

    Is this the same as knitting the purl stitch backwards or mirror knitting? I’m getting confused. Thanks for your help.

    Can you 'knit backwards' when you are doing a seed stitch, or ribbing?

  • @sarag1158
    @sarag1158 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mind blown. 🌬️ 🧠

  • @Knitfreedom
    @Knitfreedom  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yep, I can do both! :)

  • @bookhuggah
    @bookhuggah 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you don't insert the left needle so far into the stitches on the purling rows, then you can do it even faster bc you won't need to use the other hand fingers.

    I taught myself to do this when I learned entrelac because that was altogether too much turning.

  • @Danceswithfishes
    @Danceswithfishes ปีที่แล้ว

    I lofw this. However I end up throwing the yarn with my left hand (even though I init continental). Sonit looks like I knit continental but English when reverse knitting. Crazy.
