in my area is a store that crafters take in their unwanted items..all proceeds go to charity..well if the money goes to charity I need to help..they sell fabric by the pound...I paid 50 cents for 10 yards of wide lace..that was just one bolt..I bought multiple bolts..bins and bins of stamps and anything else we junkies love..I found yards and yards of lace the exact color I was looking for a journal..I have been collecting items for 2 years for my Divine Diva journal..old pictures of women etc...your videos have given me so much insight on tackling this journal. .you have helped me not be paralyzed when looking at blank pages.. oh oh and a triple oh the best find from goodwill a1926 bankers journal. I was in heaven..!!! thank you for all the hard work..
They are fun to do! Granted, it took my kids a bit, but only because they wanted to figure it out for themselves. In fact, rather than "teaching" them how to fold it, next time I'll put them in groups of four with one set of instructions per group and see what they come up with on their own! Bet they create some fabulous alternatives 😊 And just an FYI, I got that on TPT from Brain Waves Instruction. It's part of their Doodle and Do lessons. I also really love their Writing Responses With Text Based Evidence unit. It has been quite beneficial for my kids.

I loved your little journal with the hinge binding. Another variation instead of a pocket you could trim off the fold into Dutch doors, cutting the left side slightly more narrow than the right. Dutch doors for planning journals is a new concept for me and now I see uses for it everywhere. I also taught nonfiction text features in the library. One of the things I miss being retired.💜🐞

There is always an absolute nugget of gold in your videos. A reminder I have drawers of linens to use, organization is my friend and today I learned about Jibid Neary. Sometimes the comments have amazing gems as well. I heard you say flower press and I love how you include dried flowers in pieces. Hi Corey, I’m so glad I clicked on this video tonight! I live not too far from you in Puyallup. I so enjoyed hearing you talk about teaching and your classroom. I’m a retired elementary para educator.I spent a lot of time in the classroom and with resource kids My favorite was teaching reading and writing activities and have used the print out you were showing and sharing. It was fun to hear that you teach fourth and fifth grade because I have a fourth grade granddaughter and a fifth grade granddaughter. Then when you got to the little journal and were showing the tear off of the beatitudes, I had to chuckle to myself because my sisters and friends do a Bible study and that is our next topic of discussion! I just wanted to let you know that I so enjoyed listening to you and hearing about how you got your inspiration!

The little books are really neat. I like that you use the entire page and end up with no scraps, plus everything is facing the same direction. I like how the joins create some extra width for embellishing or pockets. And such a nice size for small pieces of artwork!
I love the butterfly journal with the lace. The tear-off pieces in the back are such a neat idea. I'd love to incorporate that idea in a new journal. Thanks for your video!
Great haul for the 1.48! That little green quilt cover is wonderful. I received my envelope. Love it! I will be interested to see how you make your new list journal. I have a store bought planner for this year. I prefer one I have made. I had made one last year and really liked it. Time forced me to buy one in the fall. My next project is going to be botanical made from packing paper. Wish me luck! 😂 OH and the cat doily is just wonderful! Cat journal is on my list. Purple too!

What a fabulous haul! Definitely a great time to go to these estate sales. I would have assumed everything would be gone. But we are junk journals, and most people will consider it junk. While we consider it a treasure! I adore this little no sew journal. I am definitely excited about making a few of these to use throughout next year. And I think this is the FIFTH video in a row of yours that landed on a day off for me 😮 Not sure how long you can keep this up 🤣, but I’ll take what I can get 😂 And the first thing I check is the length; the longer the better 😁 (I am also on TH-cam almost daily for various reasons, so it’s not just that I am checking on my days off.) Day made again! (I was also born in 1965, and I was a school teacher. Now I teach art quilting online 😊 I watch a few other junk journalers, but your projects and aesthetic fit me the best!) Jealous of your haul, as we don’t find deals like that in Alaska very often. 😊 I don’t have a shortage of supplies though 😂

I’m a retired Biology teacher, I used to get my kids to make those little booklets (plain copy paper), some used A3 paper to make them a bit bigger. They used them to summarise topics with mind maps or annotated diagrams or something similar. They became a revision document for a topic, for most it was so much more effective than merely making notes. ❤❤❤ thank you for your video.
Thank you for your service! I generally find that if I have the kids make something then fill it in or complete it that they have more ownership and better memory of the content. Then again, maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part 😊
Happy New Year Cori. You could make your cross-stitch 2025 neater on the back if you did each number in running stitch. So start at the beginning of the number and when you get to the end go back from the end to the beginning in the gaps. You can then just whip the ends into a couple of stitches to hide them. I hope this makes sense 💜

@@CoriDahmen All of the images in the Gwen Frostic book are from linoleum cut block prints that she made. Her books included the images along with short poetry that she wrote. I’ve never seen other books with natural elements pressed in the paper before, but that definitely goes along with her style as a nature lover.

Love watching your videos,and it was so funny that you were talking about how you had to replace your flooring and I was just thinking if I could only talk to someone that went through that we are replacing the carpet in our living room and hall so I was trying to figure out how we were going to do that and not be able to take all our big furniture out of the living room and to make it as easy as possible we are in our late 70 closer to 80 and going to do everything except laying the hardwood I wish I could find the best way to do this any tips
Are you replacing it yourself or having it done? That knee whacker to stretch the carpet and attach it to the nail strips is brutal. I have a German Shepherd so no carpeting, but that is not a task I'd tackle on my own. Most installers will move your furniture for you, they just ask you to move the little things. Amazon has lots of inexpensive moving pads that go under the feet of your furniture, to make moving/sliding/etc much easier. I imagine Home Depot has them as well. But please, do not lift and place them yourselves. Hernias are no little thing! Bless you and best wishes for a successful project.
Cori, I think we are on the same brain length. I am moving in January, and slowly packing all my belongings…. I have been pre making mass makes and foundation pieces while I figure out where I am to move and make a lot of these to decorate and build up my stash. I love how you slightly expanded this!! The painting is actually an Oil Painting done on a canvas board. Canvas boards are much cheaper than stretched canvas, but they eventually will warp. Lots of beginning Artists use canvas boards so it isn't as expensive. Established Artists paint on them too, mostly for practicing, but most prefer stretched canvas or gluing rolled canvas to wood cradle panels for their pieces. ❤ Love the great bargain you got for all the gorgeous textiles and all the other things!
Thank you for the information. I thought it was oil, though my mouth kicked out acrylics at the time 😊 I don't paint, at all, well, except walls and baseboard and trim.... I seem to be painting a lot of that these days!
@CoriDahmen You're welcome! I need to do that kind of painting too, but I would rather stick to my canvas! I would love to see what you make with the little painting! I would not have thought to peel it off the board and make something out of it. But that is a great idea! One could now sew around the edges or whatever creative things you want to now that it is just the canvas!

Great haul. Did you find those in Boise or Washington. I am near Boise and need to keep an eye for needlework. Also love your organizing plan to video.
Those were from an estate sale here in WA. I find most estate sales to be hit-or-miss, especially with pricing. That is absolutely the best sale I've found. There is a second chance craft supplies shop in Boise where I've found some fun treasures. It's upstairs from a plant shop. Can't remember the name, but I found it easily when I was looking for thrift stores.
P.s. you might want to check on the monetary value of the Gwen Frostic book before you cut into it (if that is important to you). Yes, her art and poetry would make a fabulous addition to a journal. As a lifelong Michigander, I did cringe when you said you could cut out some text and glue it into a journal…Although her studio has been preserved and some of her prints are sold as greeting cards, I think the books, which were produced in limited quantities, are not being reproduced.

What a fabulous haul! Definitely a great time to go to these estate sales. I would have assumed everything would be gone. But we are junk journals, and most people will consider it junk. While we consider it a treasure! I adore this little no sew journal. I am definitely excited about making a few of these to use throughout next year. And I think this is the FIFTH video in a row of yours that landed on a day off for me 😮 Not sure how long you can keep this up 🤣, but I’ll take what I can get 😂 And the first thing I check is the length; the longer the better 😁 (I am also on TH-cam almost daily for various reasons, so it’s not just that I am checking on my days off.) Day made again! (I was also born in 1965, and I was a school teacher. Now I teach art quilting online 😊 I watch a few other junk journalers, but your projects and aesthetic fit me the best!) Jealous of your haul, as we don’t find deals like that in Alaska very often. 😊 I don’t have a shortage of supplies though 😂

I’m a retired Biology teacher, I used to get my kids to make those little booklets (plain copy paper), some used A3 paper to make them a bit bigger. They used them to summarise topics with mind maps or annotated diagrams or something similar. They became a revision document for a topic, for most it was so much more effective than merely making notes. ❤❤❤ thank you for your video.
Thank you for your service! I generally find that if I have the kids make something then fill it in or complete it that they have more ownership and better memory of the content. Then again, maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part 😊

Happy New Year Cori. You could make your cross-stitch 2025 neater on the back if you did each number in running stitch. So start at the beginning of the number and when you get to the end go back from the end to the beginning in the gaps. You can then just whip the ends into a couple of stitches to hide them. I hope this makes sense 💜

@@CoriDahmen All of the images in the Gwen Frostic book are from linoleum cut block prints that she made. Her books included the images along with short poetry that she wrote. I’ve never seen other books with natural elements pressed in the paper before, but that definitely goes along with her style as a nature lover.

Love watching your videos,and it was so funny that you were talking about how you had to replace your flooring and I was just thinking if I could only talk to someone that went through that we are replacing the carpet in our living room and hall so I was trying to figure out how we were going to do that and not be able to take all our big furniture out of the living room and to make it as easy as possible we are in our late 70 closer to 80 and going to do everything except laying the hardwood I wish I could find the best way to do this any tips
Are you replacing it yourself or having it done? That knee whacker to stretch the carpet and attach it to the nail strips is brutal. I have a German Shepherd so no carpeting, but that is not a task I'd tackle on my own. Most installers will move your furniture for you, they just ask you to move the little things. Amazon has lots of inexpensive moving pads that go under the feet of your furniture, to make moving/sliding/etc much easier. I imagine Home Depot has them as well. But please, do not lift and place them yourselves. Hernias are no little thing! Bless you and best wishes for a successful project.
Cori, I think we are on the same brain length. I am moving in January, and slowly packing all my belongings…. I have been pre making mass makes and foundation pieces while I figure out where I am to move and make a lot of these to decorate and build up my stash. I love how you slightly expanded this!! The painting is actually an Oil Painting done on a canvas board. Canvas boards are much cheaper than stretched canvas, but they eventually will warp. Lots of beginning Artists use canvas boards so it isn't as expensive.
Established Artists paint on them too, mostly for practicing, but most prefer stretched canvas or gluing rolled canvas to wood cradle panels for their pieces. ❤

Thank you for the information. I thought it was oil, though my mouth kicked out acrylics at the time 😊 I don't paint, at all, well, except walls and baseboard and trim.... I seem to be painting a lot of that these days!

Those were from an estate sale here in WA. I find most estate sales to be hit-or-miss, especially with pricing. That is absolutely the best sale I've found. There is a second chance craft supplies shop in Boise where I've found some fun treasures. It's upstairs from a plant shop. Can't remember the name, but I found it easily when I was looking for thrift stores.

P.s. you might want to check on the monetary value of the Gwen Frostic book before you cut into it (if that is important to you). Yes, her art and poetry would make a fabulous addition to a journal. As a lifelong Michigander, I did cringe when you said you could cut out some text and glue it into a journal…Although her studio has been preserved and some of her prints are sold as greeting cards, I think the books, which were produced in limited quantities, are not being reproduced.
