Where can we find the Phurba R13 knife? We are homeschooling our boys and are looking for a handicraft. They have experience with wood, tools, etc. they will be in 1st and 2nd grade in the fall. I need a list of supplies!

Well meaning parents also give their kids vegetable peelers for carving wood. Crazy. It’s better to teach real skills and safe use of proper sharp knives with kids - who rise to the occasion wonderfully, with encouragement and coaching. I would suggest you watch our “Introduction to Whittling Skills” video. If you watch it first, you’ll find that helpful. Then get the knives and wood and watch it with your child, and work through it with them. Wonderful.

What do you think is the youngest age you can start children whittling?

That depends on their degree of dexterity. I have done it with 4 year olds, while some 6 year olds have struggled. The key is to provide one-on-one coaching and encouragement, while teaching safe and efficient techniques. Never leave a very young kid alone with a Sloyd knife if they have not previously demonstrated competency and understanding.
So the answer to your question is: it all depends. 🤣
