1. Clean it really good. Dish soap works just fine on wheels. It's meant for stripping grime 2. Clay it 3.polish it 4. Use a good protectant Congrats I just saved you 32.5 minutes of product pushing. Which I understand completely but he pushes a product at every chance wether it be about other videos, the chemical, tools, or whatever it may be. Just clean the damn thing and show us what you're using. I'm glad they switched up the faces. Love you, Greg! Keep up all the hard work. Love your stuff but just had to say that
Give the guy some credit. There are a lot of people hating this guy. He is showing this for info in case you want to polish your rims. Most of the comments are not even about that. There is a reason every manufacturer gives a torque spec for wheel nuts and/or bolts. Its not about the rim, its about the size and thread pitch of the bolt/nut. If you really were a professional, certified mechanic you would know that. Its on the ASE tests. It is covered in the tests on suspensions, engines and transmissions. Guess you were't there that day.
Exactly. You said it right. I have all motor (no supercharger, turbos, procharger) a 99 c5 with 500.32hp to the rear wheels and his svt would only see tail lights the entire time. He might beat c3 vettes.
Thanks for the video! Always disappointed to see negative comments on a free how to video. Yes of course you push your products. By doing that it keeps your doors open and the opportunity to keep making these videos. Not every detail needs to be replicated as "the only way" these videos are great to see a process and adapt it to your skill level and tool set.
I think of some of you are missing the point of the video. It's a "how to" video where the technique is demonstrated and products are showcased. Most people won't sit through an hour long demonstration. It think it stands to reason CG products will tackle wheels that are heavily contaminated. He's gives out of lot of information for free and I appreciate the service.
Anyone else notice at the 29:20ish mark, he states that the wheel needs to dry for 20 mins. The clock behind him reads 4:40. When he returns, allegedly in 20 mins......the clock is GONE?!?!?!?!?! lol
Very thorough video. I've been procrastinating detailing my truck wheels. I will have to do some wet sanding and a sos pad. I live in the Northwest and the chemical that is used on the roads in the winter pits wheels something terrible.
How did you get into detailing? I'm very interested and have been for 10 plus years. i have a passion for it and would like to learn more. I live in mass and would like to get certified, any suggestions?
that wheel came out great. wanted to know could you have substituted wheel guard for jetseal 109 and got a equivalent level of protection. on future washing will using Diablo strip the protective coating off requiring reapplication? great videos keep up the great work and it good to see you teach fire safety to your students!
Will Diablo Gel (at any dilution) or Premium Blue Cleaner strip the coating of wheel guard or deteriorate it significantly or can they be used to clean wheels with a coat of wheel guard?
When wheels are protected with wheel guard, will Diablo (at 6:1) or Premium Blue remove or deteriorate the protective coating? Do I need to use a wax safe shampoo or just an ordinary shampoo (e.g Autoglym Shampoo) to protect the wheel guard coating?
Do you guys have a fallout remover product, similar to what's referred to as "Iron-X"? When I did my wheels I found like you had a serious loud of contaminants on the wheel :/ that came up with clay,
Not as far as I know, however there are several alternatives to Iron-X such as Wolf's Chemicals Deironiser gel which can dry on to surfaces and still be rinsed off. It is also much better value for money than Iron-X.
No kidding. Detail a nasty, grimey, hard driven wheel and make it clean, then you will convince me of your products. Although, I do enjoy his attention to detail regardless.
Yeah but anyone can clean an already clean wheel. I want to see these chemicals he is always going on about, tackle a nasty, dirt, brake dust, road grime coated wheel. Show us da powuh!
your tip is good but the real problem about aluminum or alloy,heat+water=mark.s.....what we want to know how to solve that problem? waiting for your answer tnxz?
For the compounding process you will want to get some metal compound bars. Some people call these "Rouge Bars" as they are similar to true jewelers rouge. You will need various types of wheels as well. Check out some sites like Zephyr, Matchless metal, English Custom Polish, Caswell plating and more. Alternatively you can wetsand your way up to 3000 grit and then just use mothers or a similar aluminum polish.DO NOT CLEAR THEM, if you want the most brilliant shine, leave them bare.
I bought a used car and the guy had a hood defender thing that is this plastic bar things going across the edge of the hood. It has swirls marks in, can anyone tell me how to get them out?
How much would it cost me to let my car completely get polished by someone like this? I own a BMW 1-series and the previous owners had some cats that climbed on top of it and now theres loads of small scratches on there and I'm interested to know how much it would cost to let someone fully polish and wax and do anything thats necessary to make my carpaint look like new again. Does anyone has an idea what the price will be like? Thanks in advance for the replies.
No, not even close. The process shown is for paint, its far too mild for your application. You will want to use a good stripper to remove the clear coat from your wheels. Then decide what you want for a finish. You may need to sand the wheel to remove corrosion or machine marks, start with p600 and move down as needed. I use 40 on a rotary for some wheels. Progressively step you way to p400 or p600. Then switch over to compounds which I will explain in another post.
Actually the B-pillars are plastic. This is why they scratch so easily. The best stuff I have found to use is a good cutting compound (3m rubbing compound seems to make quick work, but V34 would probably work just as fast). then you hit it with some polishing compound and finish with a sealant.
Also stop cleaning things that are already clean. Most of us aren't walking out to our calls to clean a garaged S4. Personally I deal with a lot of dirty grimy gunked up daily drivers with a few track orientated/ weekenders sprinkled in there. It would be nice to see you use a foam canon and double bucket method on a true dirty car.
I like the process and the results are great, however, I did notice that towards the end it looked like you skimped on polishing the inner side walls of the spokes a lot just to get it done and focused on just the outside. I'm not sure if it's because the pad couldn't fit, or it might have been an odd angle for you. There is no problem with taking your time to do a job 100%, even if that means your video is 5-10 minutes longer. Trust me, people will appreciate it a lot more. I don't mean to sound like an ass and I apologize if I do, it's just something I noticed. I personally wash and clean the outside and inside of my car myself. That way it's done the way I want, instead of a half ass machine (carwash) or a person who does a quick half ass job.
IMO this is to much work to do all 4 tires and have them back on the car in the same day. That said I just finished doing it to 2 of my wheels and I'm spent, I'll do the other 2 some other time. This would be a way better winter project to do while you have all the tires off the car when your winter ones are on. Do like 1 tire a month.
did he really just say he's hunting vette's with a gt 98 😂... I got a 03 cobra with a Whipple charger instead of thr factory eaton and 2.47 pulleys and I don't even make that bold statement never know what those vettes have under the hood those ls7 engines can get nasty mean lol
What kind of stupid reply is that? All the cars, wheels etc they clean on Chemical guys are already clean to start with. For new customers it could look like a scam. I know however that CG products are great. Been using them for years now.

I would hate to go against this guy in car shows. He does one of the best detailings I've ever seen.
"Corvette hunting" in a 98 Cobra..I think you said it wrong, I think you ment "getting hunted by Corvettes" Hahaha
its a GT by the way not a cobra. and its supercharged.
watch this "Brutal Golf Mk2 1150HP" from the out side it look stock but i'm pretty sure it can huntting corvette
Exactly. You said it right. I have all motor (no supercharger, turbos, procharger) a 99 c5 with 500.32hp to the rear wheels and his svt would only see tail lights the entire time. He might beat c3 vettes.
Hunting Corvettes my ass!
I kept wanting to quit watching, but I couldn't stop. Well done.

+Ctmrxmas the clocks there he turned it face down. lol
Ctmrxmas l....o.....L
Okay, I was afraid of that. I wasn't sure if they had clear coating, that was my biggest question so Thanks you very much!!!
That green pad rocks! I love it on paint with M105, or similar polish.
Very thorough video. I've been procrastinating detailing my truck wheels. I will have to do some wet sanding and a sos pad. I live in the Northwest and the chemical that is used on the roads in the winter pits wheels something terrible.
how does it take this dude half an hour to clean an already clean rim!? Lmao
Wow, that clean wheel looked so clean when you were done.
Excellent finish, and excellent video. But no tyre dressing/protector..?
cleaning an already clean wheel :\ show me one thats been used awhile not one that looks like it was cleaned a few days ago.
How did you get into detailing? I'm very interested and have been for 10 plus years. i have a passion for it and would like to learn more. I live in mass and would like to get certified, any suggestions?
Ok to do this for a riddler award, that's about it!
What pressure washer do you use? Is it compatible with any of the foam lances you have listed on the chemical guys site?
Adam's Wheel polish , Makes your wheels look new !!
Do you guys have any videos of cleaning really dirty and or corroded rims?
that was absolutely awesome. I sooooo need a polisher. Thanks for the highly motivational video.
that wheel came out great. wanted to know could you have substituted wheel guard for jetseal 109 and got a equivalent level of protection. on future washing will using Diablo strip the protective coating off requiring reapplication? great videos keep up the great work and it good to see you teach fire safety to your students!
Will Diablo Gel (at any dilution) or Premium Blue Cleaner strip the coating of wheel guard or deteriorate it significantly or can they be used to clean wheels with a coat of wheel guard?
Dude, socks and deck shoes, someone call the fashion police! ;-)
is it only worth using claybar on wheels with clearcoat or will it get the same results with a raw wheel also?
When wheels are protected with wheel guard, will Diablo (at 6:1) or Premium Blue remove or deteriorate the protective coating? Do I need to use a wax safe shampoo or just an ordinary shampoo (e.g Autoglym Shampoo) to protect the wheel guard coating?
Dude what kind of mustang do you have that your "hunting corvettes"? a twin supercharged Gt?
Does metal polish require a metal polishing pad or can I just use one of my cutting/polishing pads
hello, this tool is sander too? I'm thinking about buying it or dwp849, that you recommend?
Do you guys have a fallout remover product, similar to what's referred to as "Iron-X"?
When I did my wheels I found like you had a serious loud of contaminants on the wheel :/ that came up with clay,
Are you guys going to manufacture 3" hex logic pads?
I have a set of GT/CS wheels but they are flaking and spidering, would this method buff them out?
Not as far as I know, however there are several alternatives to Iron-X such as Wolf's Chemicals Deironiser gel which can dry on to surfaces and still be rinsed off. It is also much better value for money than Iron-X.
so i have to use a new piece of clay for each wheel or will one be alright?
The funniest thing about people who have A-type personalities. He's cleaning a clean wheel.
Charley Hawkins ... why you mad tho? Just do a video where you clean a dirty wheel. Anybody can clean a clean wheel.
you can maybe spray paint it? if im pictureing the front visor thing for the hood that should work, take it off first obviously.
Dude, black socks with those deck shoes, some one call the fashion police!!!
thank you, great products!
your tip is good but the real problem about aluminum or alloy,heat+water=mark.s.....what we want to know how to solve that problem? waiting for your answer tnxz?
How do you deal with wheels that have curb rash?
with sand paper... (refurb)
For the compounding process you will want to get some metal compound bars. Some people call these "Rouge Bars" as they are similar to true jewelers rouge. +gadri stars - haha I know right!? They all sound like news reporters. I watch it in mute sometimes.
Great stuff.
You could be a spokesperson for Popel products. Or those guys who hawk products at the state fair!
I cant find the 3 inch pads on your website
I bought a used car and the guy had a hood defender thing that is this plastic bar things going across the edge of the hood. It has swirls marks in, can anyone tell me how to get them out?
But your rim isn't that dirty. How do I know it it really works?
I must take a vacantion to clean all my 4 wheels
I thought I was gonna watch how to on polishing aluminuim out to a shine like chrome.
I have a 98 Gt too!

Add at best??
3...2...1 lol Forgot to edit that part?
I'm sold on some items from the other video detailing that hemi.
What about cleaning really dirty wheels? Especially the back of the wheel.
I think he's "really liking the results".
It depends how dirty that piece of clay gets.
-Greg@CG
Is there really like a pound of balancing weights on that rim?
SquidHolder
Probably due to the poorly balanced drag radials.
SquidHolder looks to be about 3 oz
Haha this guy loves hunting corvettes

He said "Corvette" lmao
Why the fuck didn't you use a dirty wheel?
The clock gets flipped after "20 minutes"
That white clock doesn't work. Oh, nice instructional video by the way ;o)
24:30 lol the valve cap came off :)

Wet sanding it out to a polish shine
Im gonna go ahead and...
Lol they placed the clock in the background face down when the "20 min" passed by
and you guys thought greg was gone...hah
you should have purchased a new wheel and showed us how to clean that. at least there would have been some sort of dust on it to clean off.
1 down 3 to go...
hunt corvettes ??
Hilarious hand motions, like an ersatz want-to-be rapper.
how you gon clean.... clean rimmss i wish one video had actuall realistic dirty rims
The wheel looks like new. Polish a wheel that realy needs a new finish!!!!!!
You need a mic. U need to clean dirty stuff to show the cleaning power

38 minutes of video? I´d have one of four wheels polished...
What kind of stupid reply is that?
All the cars, wheels etc they clean on Chemical guys are already clean to start with. For new customers it could look like a scam.
I know however that CG products are great. Been using them for years now.
Nice socks
