I'm not a software engineer, but when I first joined my company, the onboarding was very much "watch a video" or "put in a call with this person" and then they would just talk at me for an hour, without me actually understanding any of it. I made it about 3 days before going to my manager and saying "I can't do this, please give me something to do" and she did. I ended up learning way more and connecting with people better as well! I know I'm pretty lucky to have a great manager and that's not the case for everyone, but if you feel like you would learn better and contribute more in a different way, make sure you communicate it! ❤😻

I was subscribing your channel from Taiwan one month before, your vlog are always inspiring me and making me feel comfortable a lot! Actually, I am in same stage of onboarding in a new company just like you, I'm also reading a lot of SOP required, in the meantime, I was asked to join in new project with new coworkers which a little challenge me. I just started my first job last thursday, i'm a software engineer as well and it was so reassuring to watch this and actually feel good about such a new change in my life :)

Thanks for your tips! I just pivoted to a new team as a Frontend Engineer and I've been having 1:1 calls with my manager and onboarding buddy/mentor the past week. My introverted self would get so exhausted after a couple of calls but I'm easing into the role fine and I feel supported.
Another thing I'm doing is documenting important things, especially since we already have a frontend doc but I will be doing a lot of refactoring on my end.
Amazing Jenn. Glad to hear that you are having a brand new life in the new team and also started a new relationship! Support you. Later if u have time, wanna hear some advices from you as to how to start the internal transfer discussion with the existing team🤣🤣🤣

Hey Jenn, I have just started a new hybrid job myself with a a new team so also feeling nervous!. Goodluck tho:)
Joined a new team about 2 months ago, Impostor syndrome had me by the neck for the first 2 months, really felt super anxious and scared of tasks that I thought I wouldn't be able to do. Turned it into a positive scenario and realised its a good things as you can learn so much from this and really felt that I have grown over the last 2 months. I will say the hardest thing is personality clashes between members, thats something that does take time and Im only now after 3 months starting to feel more comfortable in my team. Would love to hear other peoples stories and also advice
