Three years is about the right time to change jobs in tech, especially to get new challenges. This is great for the tech industry; companies are constantly getting new ideas.
Totally understand and definitely been there. Growth is so important! Glad you're moving to a team that will help bring you closer towards you goals. All the best on the new team!
Those are adorable cards! Expressing gratitude in words is so sweet and personal. I'm wishing you the best of luck in wherever your path takes you as you transition to a new team!
All the best for your next journey Jenn. We really wanted to see that here on TH-cam. I hope you are having a great time in South Korea and Japan. I'm waiting for future vlogs, too.
Jenn, you have such a gentle, sweet way about you. And I imagine with your focus on growth, you probably have impressive technical credentials as well, even if you can't show us those details in this vlog. The clean, professional style of the vlog hints also hints at that. I wish you great success and happiness.
I'm watching u since I was a little developer for a startup now I just began my first job as a software engineer in a big tech company. I think I could imagine what your negative points might be and I'm glad for the decision you made. May exciting projects await you in the future and I hope you start the next chapter refreshed!
You are so inspiring, I love to watch your day to day vlogs. Myself being a Computer MS student I aspire to become like you. Thanks for the positivity and motivation you put into your vlogs.
I’ve been watching your videos for a few weeks. When I saw a recent video where you discussed burnout, I was like, “I hope she realizes she needs to leave.” And here’s the video! Congrats!!! Wish you the best with the new domain!! 🎊💯👏🏽
After 20 years as an engineer, I bailed from my job and heading to Japan and where the winds will sail me to . Good luck on your next adventure. There are no bad decisions:-)
Thanks youtube algorithm for finding me this gem of a video. it was so relaxing of a vlog, hope you have a wonderful vacation! -software engineer from orlando.
Girl I feel you so much on the “work wasn’t challenging enough”, I’m there right now too. I believe your next job is TH-cam content creator? If so, congratulations!
I am breaking in the tech career field at 44 and really enjoying these videos. They are informative, entertaining, and give some type of glimpse into this world. I’m even talking with my 17yr old daughter to look into tech as a career and being able to see young successful ladies is encouraging because you have to be a cliché IT person (whatever that is). For everyone that doesn’t like these types of videos please make some videos of your own that you believe would be better or more helpful but until then please be respectful and just don’t watch and leave nasty comments if you don’t like it. I’m sure you could be doing something better with your time.
Do not for a moment believe that acting like Ms. Cho is what having a tech career is like. Her lackadaisical attitude is poison in a workplace. It harms the worker and everyone around them. This is the type of behavior that caused Elon Musk to rid Twitter of so many nonproductive workers.
I’m so glad that you are taking a well deserved break ❤ best of luck to your next chapter and looking forward to life updates. Keep these coming, you’re a true inspiration 💫
Fellow Amazonian here. Love watching your videos. They have a peaceful vibe even when everything might not be peaceful at work cause i know how it goes 😅❤
Packing 2 luggages just that evening before the next morning flight pretty much tells that you have room to improve in planning & organizing. Try to avoid doing last minute tasks. It’s part of disciplining yourself. The fruit out of this simple task / habit change will surely help you in the future. Believe me.
Unfortunately, the only growth that my body prioritizes is my midsection. 😂 J/k, I totally get where you're coming from. Stagnation is typically the precursor to me job hopping. I feel ya!
Good luck with your new team! I hope things go smoothly in the transition. 💕 So... we'll have vlogs from your trip to Japan and Korea?? I'd love to see them! 😍 Many huuugs~
So excited for you on your well needed vacation and new start! So many career paths require you to start new to move up. It feels weird leaving but unfortunately that’s often the only way to grow.
Turning 60 this year myself but I can relate to the no-growth/stagnation thing - I did the same back in 1999 after a good 14 years at my prior job... I just felt like I wasn't really learning anything new and while that was easier in the late 80s/early 90s (early sparc/Solaris, SGI, Linux days as well as early PCs & networks (10mbit to 100 to 1000 today)), but as the 90s came to a close and eCommerce/internet was taking off i felt the need to branch out more. One of the best things I ever did for my career, and though retired early now I still emphasize to people that in IT if you aren't learning anything you are stagnating - as tech keeps advancing every year.
I’m literally in the same position in you, been with my current team 3 years and now just wanting to challenge myself with something new so I’m changing teams soon too, good luck and looking forward to an update!
Sad to see they let you go, but remember there's always much better places than Amazon to work for. Good luck in your new adventures and finding a job in this difficult market. 👍
Enjoy the trip, that's exciting!! I'm also going to JP and Korea this summer, along with Thailand and Vietnam, super excited How long are you vacationing for?
leaving because the job is too easy i think can be taken for granted if everything else was really good, but i doubt that was the case here. Starting a new journey is exciting!
I’ve been coding for 28 years now and these “day in the life” videos are rather funny to me. It’s like today’s programmers think they’re part of some elite secretive group that needs to be exposed to the “normal people”. It’s a job like any other guys. You have meetings, you code, test your code and release.
its just a kid that makes good money, and like to post that she's comfortable. its not that serious bro. You're old, so this is practically a luxury for people that age, Bet you don't even know how much a house costs these days, compared to you
Good luck Jenn.....Tech world is always tough....just tougher now due to Ai and poor economy.........Lucky for me, I am in the tech and medical field and works in the hospital. our type of tech is a little more secure than other tech jobs.....
That’s a really inspiring video Jenn, could you share with us how did you do well for technical assessment for software roles? Where should we practice?
Not sure if youre gonna see this but, how was the transition from studying to working? Right now im in my 3rd of sportsmanagement and i want to specialize in sportsmarketing. However, i have no idea what the work process in a marketing/advertising agency is like and how projects are being set out. How did you first feel when projects were assigned to you? Did you feel a certain pressure? Did you know what work was like at the companies you applied to? Were you certain that you could deliver up to your company’s standards?
Hi Jenn, my daughter is picking out classes for her sophomore year. She is still determining what she will major in, so I recommend she take Python during her sophomore year and Java during her junior year. The school is offering a data structure class, but due to the unknown, I recommend she take something else. What do you recommend?

Well, used to it was five years
Your skin is positively radiant, smooth as silk, defying all odds. Who would have thought a software engineer could possess such flawless beauty?

As a fellow Amazon SDE, it is so refreshing to see someone else not having a perfect experience either. Makes me feel like I’m not alone 😅
